the stage back in the day. cassidy mania was coined just for him. born into an acting family, he landed the role in 1970 and played the whole some keith partridge and lead guitarist of a family band. but the good times led to darker days. more recently, he struggled with substance abuse. and earlier this year he announced he was in the early stages of dementia. he was hospitalized for heart failure over the weekend. and tonight his family says he is three in pain that gripped him so long. he was 67 years old. >> leon, thank you. now to a huge mess on a busy night for holiday travel. chopper 4 live above u.s. 50 here at the prince georges county line. a tractor-trailer and sedan slammed into each other just before 9:00. this is what it looked like

since. still, only one lane getting by for each direction. for folks heading out of d.c. and toward the eastern shore, the injuries in this crash are non-life-threatening. tuesday may be the new wednesday when it comes to thanksgiving get away traffic. but if you still need to leave town by car, don't think you're off the hook just yet. while tonight's rush hour was the worst of the week, tomorrow will still be the busiest travel day overall, and the congestion starts midmorning. so you'll need to leave early if you want to beat the worst traffic. give yourself more time if your travel takes you through one of these bottlenecks. i-95 at fredericksburg and virginia, and the bwi parkway, aaa says they're the worst in our region. and if you really want the roads to yourself, the best time to leave is actually early thanksgiving morning. and the best time to come back home is

afternoon. what does that mean for thanksgiving? i'll have the latest holiday forecast coming up at 11:18. new tonight, we've learned the fbi is now investigate einge police-involved shooting we told you about last week. police shot someone last friday during a chase that started on the gw parkway and ended with a crash along four-hunt road in fairfax county. jackie benson has more on this unusual step. >> reporter: we know very little more about this shooting than we did in the hours after it happened friday night. the dispatcher recordings indicate the crash that ended the police pursuit happened after u.s. park police officers fired shots. >> alexander roads. a public information officer did confirm the pursuit began around 7:30 after officers spotted a suv suspected of leaving the scene after crashing with another car on the gw parkway. the shooting which happened in a residential area will be investigated by the fbi's washington field office. a park police spokesperson tells news 4, in the interest of objectivity, robert mcclain requested that the fbi lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. park police officials have referred all media questions about this shooting to the fbi. in fairfax county, jackie benson, news 4. here at the live desk, you can add gabby douglas to the list of young women who allege they were sexually abused by a doctor for gymnastics. she posted on instagram late tonight and says this in part. no matter what you wear, it never gives anyone the right to harass or abuse you.

of the leotards we wore it was our fault that we were abused by larry nasser. her statement was in many ways an apology to aly raisman. she tweeted that raisman invited attacks on her by dressing in a provocative way. she has apologized repeatedly. tomorrow nasser is expected to enter a plea deal. the charges carry a minimum of 25 years in prison. and that's not all for him and the law. he's also going to have future sentencing. he is accused of sexually abusing more than 130 women. back to you. a prince georges county police officer with less than a year on the job is on leave tonight, charged with assault. police in the district say he pulled his gun on three people this past weekend and was only caught after dropping that gun and coming back to look for it.

latest. >> it was kind of scary. >> reporter: this woman doesn't want to show her face, but she does want you to know what happened on this walkway near her apartment building early sunday morning. it involves a woman, her two male friends and an off-duty prince georges county police officer. >> i heard yelling. i thought it was four or five people arguing. and then i heard someone say something about they're going to lay you out and shoot you right now. >> reporter: according to this d.c. police report, the woman and her two male friends got into an argument outside this apartment building on the 1700 block of minnesota avenue southeast. and these court documents tell us the woman called her friend, the off-duty prince georges county police officer, saeid abid. when he arrived here, he pointed a gun at all three of them. he may have been upset to see her with two male friends. during the confrontation, he mistakenly dropped

jumped in his car, realized i didn't have it and came back to the walkway. there were two d.c. police officers at the time and they placed him under arrest. these surveillance cameras captured what happened. officers seed officers seized the video. he joined the force 11 months ago and is still under probationary period. >> that's a poor reflection of prince georges compound at this poli police department. shomari stone, news 4. new tonight, news 4 has learned the remains of more than 100 people were removed from a funeral home last night when it was shut down by d.c.'s attorney general. the austin oyster funeral home is named in a lawsuit. it alleges the business charged grieving families for services it did not provide. the

funeral home was operating without a proper license. >> without that license, it can't get death certificates, and without death certificates, it can't inter these remains and provide funeral services that these families need. >> all the remains removed yesterday are now at d.c.'s office of the chief medical examiner. the attorney general's office is working to get those remains back to their loved o ones. we have reached out to austin royster funeral home and they will not comment. a man had a drunk driver cut his life short. david nor was a student at the university of south carolina. police tell us on campus last week charles davenport hit and killed him with his car while newell was riding on a mow moped.

eight from virginia state police. six from prince william, four from metro transit police. >> individuals who are known to possess firearms legal lay beco -- legally become the targets. >> i think people breaking into cars are look for anything of value. >> reporter: five of the six stolen in fairfax county since 2012 were taken from officers' cars from trunks or glove boxes. this man is serving a life sentence. using a gun he stole from an off-duty florida police officer parked at the springfield metro station. few of these guns are ever found, but two are listed as recovered. this glock and rifle stolen from a fbi agent's vehicle in northeast d.c. are still missing, 18 months later. the rightful

found of a cache seized in march. each department says they have a policy, many require rifles or guns be locked when stored inside cruisers and there are different policies when they're in the trunk. some require them to be locked in case inside the trunk. and here in rockville, they've changed the policies after the guns were stolen in may. >> we don't want to have our view in the public at all times, going in and out of officers' homes. >> reporter: they also require them to be locked in a vault in the trunk. all gun owners, whether private citizens or police need to be diligent. >> i don't want firearms getting out to the community. >> reporter: because the what ifs are scary when police guns end up in the wrong hands. >> now the i-team has spent months investigating stolen g
