brawl. new questions about safety at a local high school after a security guard attack is caught on camera. >> erika gonzalez is at the live desk with the latest on what we know about what happened. erika. >> good afternoon to you. it was certainly a wild scene at gaithersburg high school monday afternoon around lunchtime. school activities in fact were interrupted by this. >> in the video, it 5appears tht a security guard was knocked down. we reached out to montgomery county schools and the district tells us the guard wasn't assaulted but that he tripped trying to pull the students apart. other staff members jumped in to get the situation under control. the fight only lasted a couple of minutes.

action. the district tells us no one was hurt and that investigation continues. i'm erika gonzalez. >> thank you, erika. new details are starting to painting an even scarier picture to what happened to an au student riding in an uber. she says the driver raped her. mark segraves is outside d.c. superior court. mark, what's the latest? >> reporter: good evening. this uber driver was charged with kidnapping and sexual asauch assau assault. in court through his attorney he told the judge that the sex was consensual. at this nightclub in dupont circle, according to testimony from a police detective, the woman and man drank a half a bottle of vodka and full bottle of champagne at the club. about 3:00 a.m. theyag

uber driver. according to the driver and the woman's friend, the woman was very drunk and arguing with her male companion in the back seat of the car. at some point during the drive, the car stopped and the woman got out of the back seat and moved into the front seat and then passed out. when the car got to american university, the male passenger got out of the back seat and that's when the driver took off, with the female passenger still in the car. surveillance video shows the car driving around campus for 10 or 15 minutes before it stops in a remote parking lot. that's where the woman says the driver raped her. he then drove her back to her dormitory on campus and dropped her off. now, just moments ago inside the courtroom, the judge threw out the kidnapping charge saying there's number of the jot enojue to support it but sai

give consentin. as for his relationship with uber, he was barred from working for uber but he had an uber sticker on his car and they flagged him down. he asked for cash for the ride. that's when they got in the car and drove up to american university. he's being released today. he's due back in court early next year. that's the very latest outside d.c. superior court. mark segraves, news4. first on 4, a man who works ass a bus aide is facing charge for allegedly asaulisaulting a d with autism. he was arrested for two alleged incidents. the child's mother became alarmed when her 12-year-old son started coming home from school with bruises. this is the third fairfax county school employee accused of assaulting a child with autism. two other employees were

and jumped the barrier onto the toll lanes. he may have been heading to the wheelie reston metro station. the driver did stay at the scene. they have not released the victim's name. new details on the crash of a navy transport plane in the pacific. u.s. navy now says it has recovered eight navy personnel from that crash site and they are all okay. but there are still other others missing and the search for them continues. the transport plane was on its way to the uss ronald reagan aircraft carrier. the airier is stationed there to conduct exercises with the japanese navy. new sex assault allegations today, this time against backstreet boys member nick carter. melissa shumann says carter raped her 15 years ago at his apartment. shumann detailed it in a blog post and it was detailed today in "time" magazine. carter said he was shocked and saddened by the

i'm erika gonzalez here at the live desk watching a pretty bad accident on westbound route 50. we show you these live pictures now from chopper 4 over the scene. this is westbound route 50 in landover. we know this is a two-car crash and at least one person has been hurt. if you are headed into d.c. from route 50, chances are you're going to get stuck in this. as chopper 4 zooms out, you can start to see this backup that goes all the way to mlk boulevard. this is pretty deep right now. again, a two-car crash on route

take a look at these windchills, down to 29 in cumberland, 37 in the winchester area, 40 in gaithersburg. when we drop temperaturewise this will show up as windchills because it does feel a lot cooler outside. as far as radar is concerned, there's nothing to show. we're not going to see any chances of rain the next couple of days. we did see a chance early this morning, but most of the area dry. this was another little system that came through, but behind it look at the air coming straight out of canada. you see these clouds coming out of canada too down into our region, so that tells you we're going to be on the cool side for having that. how about that thanksgiving forecast. well, first off tomorrow morning most areas will be below freezing, especially outside the beltway. roads will be on the dry side so i'm not worried about any weather problems. what to wear, yeah, it's the puffy coat tomorrow. 11:00 a.m., temperature up to 43 degrees.

chill chilly. sunset tomorrow night at 4:49. if you've got relatives coming to town, maybe they're coming down from florida or parts of georgia, it's going to set a lot earlier here than it does for them down there. chilly weather, 44 at that time. yes, it is going to be a chilly thanksgiving. look at the warmup. we really do rebound nicely. one cold day, happens to be on thanksgiving. 53 on friday, up to 59 on saturday. i would not be surprised if some of you hit the 60-degree mark on saturday afternoon. behind that system, it is a dry cold front on saturday. ten-degree temperature difference saturday into sunday. monday 52 degrees. 62 and 63. look at next week. earlier it looked like we were going to get some really big cold here. that is no longer the case. the pattern shifting and now producing warmer temperatures on your tuesday and wednesday and most of next week look

nbc4 responds to your complaints and there are a lot, close to 6,000 in just under two years. >> so we're asking now what tops the list of the most complained-about issue. susan hogan joins us to reveal finally number one. >> i know, like drum roll, please, right? let's first show you the list. so we're going to show you these are the top two, three, and fourth most complained-about issues. so coming in we had contractors, fraud, car dealerships, and the number one, utilities. a lot. like totally -- >> that surprises me. >> any specific ones? >> actually we are talking about all of them, believe it or not, from power to gas to water to phone to the internet. so we broke down the complaints that we thought reoccuring with all of the utilities for you. so the number one issue, customer service and the lack of quality of support on the customer service lines. questionable bills is another one that we heard from a lot of you regarding high bills,

from water companies. unknown charged. we see a lot of this. extra charges on your bills for services. y you never enrolled in. that happens from third-party companies that promise lower electric rates as well. >> i thought car dealerships would be the biggest issue, but not everyone has a car but everyone does need utilities somehow, some way. so what happens when it comes to filing complaints, what do consumers do? >> unfortunately, you do need to start with customer service. you've got to get your complaint on file. keep track of the calls you've made with that utility. you can file a kplancomplaint w the state's public utility commission. state public utility commissions don't have direct regulatory overnight over cell phone carriers, although

life. >> reporter: diane vaughn lived for skechb67 years and has been rock of the family, but she lost her four-year battle to cancer. >> she was always there when i needed her. >> reporter: now it's time for her to be there for her mother. >> i made phone calls to funeral homes, and i talked to mr. royst royster. >> reporter: she says royster was taking care of the funeral arrangements. she received this receipt showing she paid out of pocket more than $2,000. what lavon didn't know was that the attorney general's office was preparing this lawsuit against the business. it says the funeral home was operating without a business license for nearly two years and that the funeral director's license was suspended back in june because he was allowing jania royster even though she wasn't

wrap their minds around, they said, you know what, this may be something that's needed. >> the country has become so polarized politically and racially, that it would seem anything that helps to bridge the divide would be a good thing. >> exactly. when you're talking about situations like confederate flag rallies and people criticizing nfl players for their stance to talk about issues in this country, there's a narrative that a lot of folks that i spoke to said some of these people are buying into things that really aren't necessarily true in terms of the viewpoint about what's happening. so i spoke to karen who lives in hyattsville. she told me meetings like this are not only a great way to expand your circle, but it will help all of us to understand each other's perspectives. >> we go to private schools. we travel. we eat at fancy restaurants. we do the same thing that you do. if you don't see us there, that doesn't mean we're not there. >> karen also told me

we are learning more about uber's attempt to cover up a massive data breach. the ride-sharing service says uber paid the hackers a $100,000 ransom after they exposed the data of 57 million users. but now we know the company's former ceo and chief security officer went further. they tracked down the hackers and made them sign nondisclosure agreements about the breach. the hack happened in october of last year, but we didn't learn about it until early this week. former ceo travis kalanek

stepped down earlier this year and the chief security officer has been fired. of course uber is just the latest in a string of high-profile data breaches. when you add them all up, the numbers are staggering. let's go down this ugly memory lane. remember this, this all started with target back in 2013. that breach affected 110 million. then in 2014, there was the home depot breach. that one affected 53 million. and then in 2015, the office of personnel management announced their computer systems had been hacked, compromising more than 21 million federal employees. and then in 2016, linkedin was hacked affecting 100 million people. and then of course there was yahoo!. that one compromised the info of 1 billion users worldwide. and then finally this year equifax announced a breach that affected 143 million people. and now, uber affecting 57 million users. and you know what this means? this means that chances are really good that some sort

we just noticed that the bridges that have opened up. this is always bad as far as traffic is concerned. let's take a look at one of those spots where traffic is not so good. of course we go to chopper 4. this is going up to 70 now around the 495/270 interchange. you can see the traffic not flowing well at all there as you make your way out onto 70. we are now going up 270. this is right before you get to montrose road. you can see where the traffic is continuously backed up. but if you drive this area at 4:50 in the afternoon, you know it's going to be on the backed up side. this is going towards river road. now we're down towards river road. that's the river road interchange right now. that's going in towards washington, d.c. as we look towards what we're dealing with now, not too bad. the sky conditions okay, still rather breezy. temperature of 50 degrees and the temperatures will be dropping throughout the rest of the evening. they have been dropping all day. down to 41 at
