>> reporter: you want me to bring you some of the mac and cheese i'm making tomorrow. that's what you want. >> you know. thank you, tracee, great stuff. we appreciate it. we continue to follow breaking news. a developing story in prince george's county. lanes on route 50 westbound near the beltway are starting now to reopen after a crash. chopper 4 was over the scene after the wreck caused some traffic tie-ups a short time ago. at least one person was injured. no word on what caused this. >> and be sure to thank all those airport workers and flight attendants if you're heading out. today has been kind of crazy for them. adam tuss granted some rare access to the tarmac at reagan national. crews have been busy directing planes in and out of the airport all day, while inside the terminal security lines are long at times. because new explosive detection dogs are checking passengers before they even get to that check point. passengers say this is all worth it. >> you do what you've got to do. you do what you want to do to see your

a security guard tried to break things up, ended up on the ground. erika gonzalez is in our newsroom to tell us how this went down. >> pretty incredible video there. six students got into it at the high school around noon on monday. the cell phone video showed them trading blows. in the video it appears the security guard was knocked down. montgomery county schools tells us the guard wasn't attacked but instead tripped while trying to pull the students apart. staffers jumped in to help bring everything under control. all six students involved will be disciplined. nobody was hurt and of course that investigation continues. a third fairfax county school employee is accused of attacking a student who has autism. this is a different case than the one we told you about earlier this week. the mother of a 12-year-old nonverbal student filed a

when her son came home from school with bruises. investigators found school bus surveillance video showing lee attacking the child on two separate mornings in october. police tell us the case is not connected to that of a bus driver and bus aide accused of assaulting an 11-year-old boy. after a night fueled by alcohol, an american university student tried to hail a ride home with a friend. she ended up alone in a dark parking lot with a man she thought was an uber driver. she said she was raped. he said it was consensual. but as news4's mark segraves reports, a judge said there's no way she could say yes. >> reporter: according to testimony from a police detective today, the victim and her male friend started their evening here at the manor lounge near due paunupont circle. according to testimony, the two drank about half a bottle of vodka and a bottle of champagne. it was about 3:00

connecticut avenue and got into the defendant's car, thinking that he was an uber driver. they asked him to take them to american university. according to the driver, the woman's friend and the woman were very drunk and arguing when they got into the back seat of his car. at some point during the drive, the car stopped and the woman got out of the back seat and moved into the front seat and then passed out. when the car got to american university. the male passenger got out of the back seat and that's when the driver took off with the female passenger still in the car. surveillance video shows the car driving around campus for 10 or 15 minutes before it stops in a remote parking lot. that's where the woman says the driver raped her. he then drove her back to her dormitory on campus and dropped her off. this afternoon in court the judge threw out the kidnapping charge saying there's just not enough evidence. bu

cause that there was a sexual assault because the victim was clearly too drunk to give consenting. -- consent. as for the driver's relationship from uber, he was barred from uber in 2015 but he had an uber sticker on his car. when the couple flagged him down, he asked for cash payment, which they gave him, and he took them to measure universiamerica. outsideede d.c. superior court, mark segraves. three people are still missing after a u.s. navy plane crashed into the ocean. the plane was carrying 11 people. they were flying to the aircraft carrier uss ronald reagan. the plane went down in the philippine sea. now, eight people were pulled from the water in good condition. u.s. and japanese boats are now searching for the three missing passengers. the plane isa

gray houndieyhoun greyhound. it's a transportation plane. the nevada havy has not release name of the crew and passengers who are still missing. in june seven sailors were killed when the uss fitzgerald ran into a container ship. ten more sailors lost their lives when the uss john mccain hit an oil tanker. in that case two of those dead were from maryland. because of those collisions, eight top navy officials were removed from their post, and that includes the vice admiral who was serving as fleet commander. a tragedy on the dulles toll road when a man darts across the highway. he never made it to the other side. an oncoming car hit and killed that 42-year-old late last night. this happened close to a metro station. david culver explains where the man may have been going. >> reporter: drivers cruising the dulles toll road on this day before thanksgiving. in an instant, they pass the spot. ho

view. you can see the tire markings and the remnants of police flares that burned through the night. investigators say just before 10:00 tuesday night, a driver spotted a man darting across the eastbound lanes of the toll road, but it happened so quickly, the driver couldn't stop in time. >> the incident itself involved one car, which remained on scene, and then the individual who was struck. that individual has been identified as a 42-year-old man and police are working right now to identify the next of kin. >> reporter: sources tell us that the victim may have been dropped off in the dulles access road, the other side of the barrier right here. he then tried to jump over the barrier and cross the toll road. you can see there the skid marks. that's where he was hit. he apparently was trying to make his way here to metro. the airport authority hasn't yet confirmed those details. >> police are working to investigate, collecting as

i think it's a conversation you can have with them before dinner or really casually and very matter-of-factually when y l matter-of-factly when you arrive. what the conversation is about is giving the girl the right to say when and someone else can enter their personal space. so explaining to a family member, if she's not feeling like hugging, give her a high five or just say hello and we'll all warm up to each other eventually. i think that's the best idea. >> i've been reading a lot of this on twitter today. might this make them unnecessarily awkward or feel awkward? >> i think it might do the opposite. i think it will give them a sense of empowerment in really saying my mother wants me or my father wants me or my parent wants me to feel comfortable and they're giving me the permission to say i'm not really comfortable with giving you a hug and i'm not really

comfortable with you entering my space, so i'm going to express myself. >> is this, do you think, that the girl scouts decision to put this out comes in the current climate we have all these sexual harassment situations coming out with famous people? >> well, i'm not sure if that was their -- if this coming out right now is the timing, the motivator, but i really applaud them for bringing this issue up and bringing this to light. i think that there is no harm in telling a child we all have personal space and a personal bubble to make us all comfortable. it's there for our own protection. and i think what's going on right now and what's happening in the world, it's an example that we really do have to reinforce that a girl has the right to say -- or any child was the right to say when/where somebody is going to enter their personal space. so i think the timing might be coincidental, but it's very necessary and a great conversation. >> and you know it's nice there is the option of a

at 48. so you see the cooler air. this is about where the highs tomorrow will be. i think you'll be a little warmer in gaithersburg and parts of rockville, maybe 45, 46. go outside right now and that's the way it will feel tomorrow afternoon. not a bad thanksgiving. nothing on the radar right now but as you take a look at the wider picture here, this is what i'm watching. i'm watching three separate systems, one exiting new england and one another towards florida and another one back towards the northwest. none of these will have an impact on your thanksgiving travel. as a matter of fact, if you're across the mid-atlantic, northeast or great lakes, no problems here at all, just on the chilly side. so new york, out towards pittsburgh, along 70 or 68, no problem there. i-81 also looking good. weather will not have an impact. if you're flying tomorrow, there could be a couple of issues down towards south florida and over towards parts of the northwest. if you're

while he was allegedly posing as an uber driver says the sex was consensual, but in court today the judge says there's enough evidence to show the student was too drunk to give consent. the student thought the man was an uber driver, turns out he was just posing as one. a man was killed last night trying to cross the dulles toll road. he may have been trying to make it from the dulles access road to the wheelie reston metro station. we don't know the man's name yet. detectives are trying to track down his family. the driver who hit the man did stay on the scene. a grieving daughter finds herself in a legal limbo. >> she was supposed to bury her mother today, but she found herself in the middle of a fight between d.c. prosecutors and a troubled funeral home. >> and now she's looking to get her mother's body and her money back. meagan fitzgerald got no comment from the funeral home today, and the woman's daughter says she hasn't either. >> she taught me everything. she taught me how to cook,

loving grandmother, a supportive mother to lavon and her two siblings and a woman who never met a stranger. but two weeks ago at just 67 years old, diane lost her four-year battle to cancer. >> she was always there for me whenever i needed her. >> reporter: lavon says now it's time for her to be there for her mother. >> i made phone calls to funeral homes. i talked to royster. >> reporter: she called the chief operating officer for the austin royster funeral home. royster was taking care of the funeral arrangements. she received this receipt showing she paid out of pocket more than $2,000. what lavon didn't know was that the attorney general's office was preparing this lawsuit against the business. it says the funeral home was operating without a business license for nearly two years, and that the funeral director's license was suspended

anyone to be lonely on thanksgiving. two maryland restaurants are taking in thanksgiving orphans tomorrow. galazzio restaurant plans a meal with all the holiday classics. all are welcome to the table between noon and 6:00 in the evening. the boston market in riverdale will also host a free community dinner. their store will be open from 4:00 in the afternoon through 6:00 p.m. if you don't want to talk politics at the table tomorrow, here's a diversion. how did we as a nation decide to celebra celebrate thanksgiving on the third thursday of november? i'm glad you asked, cousin it. the first known national observation of thanksgiving was december 18th, 1977. a couple -- 1777. it seems like just yesterday. a couple of years later on october 3rd, 1789, president george washington proclaimed thursday, november 26 of that year, to be a

i'm erika gonzalez here at the live desk. disturbing new revelations in the case of a baltimore police detective that was shot and killed last week. we've just learned from the city's police commissioner that detective shawn suitor's service weapon was in fact used against him. that there was some sort of a struggle between the detective and the suspect and that his

back to you guys. >> it's its own language. what couan keep up? my goodness. >> we've had a fairly mild day. it was almost balmy this morning. >> 59 at 10:00 this morning and now we've dropped 15 to 20 degrees. it is so much colder now than it was when you stepped out the door this morning. if you're just getting back from work, you may have left without the jacket. out there right now it is on the cool side. clear skies and current temperature down to 48 degrees. winds out of the northwest at 17. the current windchill, though, down into the low 40s. we'll get to the windchill in a second, but look at the current temperatures. already down to 36 in winchester, 37 cumberland, 42 right now in gaithersburg, so it was quite warm early, but temperatures have been falling all day. look at these current windchills, 34 in gaithersburg, 27 winchester, 38 manassas, so it's going to be a cold night tonight and a koelcold start too

no rain to talk about, we'll be on the dry side over the next 24 hours, or the next 48. we saw this storm system move through today. most of us remained dry but now we have a northwest flow coming out of canada and the great lakes bringing us a few clouds but not much. just some wind and much colder temperatures. so your forecast tomorrow, first off tomorrow morning most areas will be below freezing. if you've got to get a couple of things at the store early, it will be on the cold side. roads will be dry. if you're traveling tomorrow, weather should not be a factor on your roads. 43 degrees by 11:00 a.m., 47 by 3:00. at 7:00 temperature dropping to about 44. it's going to be a chilly afternoon, so heads up there. sunset tomorrow at 4:49. don't forget of course the redskins game tomorrow night at fedex at 8:30. those temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s. 47 tomorrow but up to 53 on friday. moving in the right direction. saturday i think a really nice day, especially early saturday. 59 degrees if you're thinki

shopping on saturday, that should be fun. down to 49 on sunday and then still a little chilly but not nearly as cold monday before we rebound back into the 60s on tuesday and wednesday. much warmer temperatures here, so some really nice temperatures into the middle of next week. that's something we'll be tracking before another little cooldown. you notice here we start off with 47 tomorrow, but that is the coldest temperature i have on the map for the next ten days. a little bit of a transition here from where we've been for the past two weeks on the cold side, going back to more mild temperatures. it's not going to snow. 62.

a hit after the whistle, a player tackled out of bounds, a woodson high school football player posted this new video of what led up to a brawl during a semifinal game last week with eastern high school in d.c. he says this play where a player was hit after the whistle and then this play where the player was tackled out of bounds ultimately began the brawl. well, 18 players from woodson were suspended from playing in tomorrow's turkey bowl. nine players appealed that decision and only one appeal was overturned. well, there were just good feelings today at the feast of sharing held at the washington convention center. tom sherwood reports the 18th annual event organized by safeway has a lot on its plate.
