royal wedding will occur and yet there is another little event coming up in the spring and that's the birth of another royal baby. how might that impact things? >> we have a big year next year. yes, royal baby is due in april so everyone had thought this this royal wedding would take place in the summer. the royal calendar is regimented and inflexible. it's possible that the duchess of cambridge will be heavily pregnant at the time of this wedding, also it's prince charles' 70th birthday, it's a big royal year. >> for someone who watches the royals it's really interesting and intriguing and i think positive to see how the royal family is embracing meghan markle. as you were telling me there's all these previous no-nos and now it's, yes, this is our princess. >> this is a sign of the changing times. the last time an american divorcy

family there was a crisis. it le process. times have changed. expectations have changed. harry is popular. and so, i think everyone is onboard with this. and i think america is going to be really onboard with this. >> what is meghan markle in for? >> a shock. definitely a shock. just this weekend alone, matt, you were in london. you saw the speculation. it was out of control. that was quite an initiation into the stresses of royal life. she is a public figure. she's been on a television show. it wasn't as well-known as it is now before meghan's name became associated with it. but she had to give up her job. she loved to london. she's given up her country. she can't just pop home for thanksgiving next year. there's a lot of philanthropic work she does. but it's going to be the press intrusion into her life. we've seen her sister come out of the woodwork with unpleasant stories. she's been unkind. more of that to come, unfortunately. with harry, she has someone who will guide her and take care of

the national agency for disaster management issuing a level four alert today indicating the potential for another large eruption, forcing residents within a 6.2 mile radius to evacuate and grounding all air travel. >> we have got no information because the gate to depart to check in has been closed indefinitely. so we don't know what the plan is. >> reporter: dormant since the early 1960s mt. agung has been spewing ash since last tuesday but heightened seismic activity is indicating the volcano is shifting and could blow at any moment. regular rain in the area has created a series of dangerous volcanic mud flows, water and volcanic debris flowing down the slopes of the islands known for

has stepped down from a top position on a powerful house committee. let's get right to nbc's casey hunt on the hill for us this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. senator al franken this morning speaking out about allegations of sexual misconduct with three local outlets in his home state of minnesota. after answering those tough questions he insists he will be back to work today but that comes as democratic leaders struggle with another ethics investigation. >> i let people down. i've let the people of minnesota down. >> reporter: this morning al franken trying to explain himself. >> i am embarrassed and ashamed. >> reporter: speaking publicly for the first time more than ten days after allegations of sexual misconduct. >> i have a long way back to win back the trust of the people of minnesota. >> reporter: giving three interviews with outlets in his home state trying to repair the damage after accusations of forcibly kissing a woman before he was in office and

groping three others. >> in some of these encounters i've crossed a line. >> reporter: senator franken says he has never considered resigning and now he is not the only democrat in trouble for harassment. >> in times of heightened tension -- >> reporter: congressman john conyers stepping aside from ranking member on the house judiciary committee amid an ethics investigation after two women accused him of sexual harassment. he said i very much look forward to vind kagt myself and my family. >> john conyers is an icon in our country. he has done a great deal to protect women. >> reporter: nancy pelosi defending conyers, a prominent democrat who worked with martin luther king. >> he is entitled to due process but women are entitled to due process as well. >> reporter: asked if she believes the women who i a could you sayed him. >> i don't know who they are, do you? they have not really come forward. >> reporter: attorney lisa bloom represents one of the accusers, she says her client signed a confidentiality agreement

publicly. >> we are calling on representative conyers to release my client from her confidentiality agreement. >> reporter: pelosi making a new statement saying, quote, zero tolerance means consequences. no matter now great an individual's legacy it is not a license for harassment. the question now whether there's more to come from congress. anita hill whose bombshell 1991 allegations against then supreme court nominee clarence thomas rocked the nation's capitol says she's skeptical anything will change. >> 26 years ago washington wasn't ready to lead on this issue and i'm afraid even today washington cannot lead the country on this issue. >> reporter: at this point democratic sources are telling me it's unlikely conyers will ever return to that post on the judiciary committee. all of this putting increasing pressure on congress to do something to change those secretive rules that discourage staffers from reporting sexual harassment. >> casey hunt, thank you. there are new developments

president trump is again trying to boost the embattled alabama senate candidate's campaign but other republicans are worried about what happens if moore wins. nbc's catie beck is in birmingham with the latest on that. >> reporter: good morning. the latest real clear politics poll average couldn't be any closer. it shows moore leading jones by just eight tenths of a point, republicans still conflicted on whether to believe moore on his accusers. this morning embattled republican roy moore heads back into the spotlight, making his first public appearance in 11 days with a speech tonight. >> i'm going to tell you -- >> reporter: his opponent doug jones speaking sunday night suggesting republicans should turn away from their own candidate. >> republican party has a nominee that even the situates senate says they are probably not going to see and folks will put party above country and state

>> reporter: president trump doubling down on his support of moore without ever naming him, tweeting, liberal jones would be bad. the last thing we need in alabama and the u.s. senate is a schumer/pelosi puppet. moore has been accused by at least nine women of sexual misconduct, ranging from inappropriate flirting to sexual assault of a minor. lee says she met moore when she was 14 selling savannah. >> he removed my clothing, he left the room and came back in wearing his white underwear and he touched me over my clothing, what was left of it, and he tried to get me to touch him as well. >> reporter: moore has steadfastly denied all of the allegations against him. >> they are not only untrue, but they have no evidence to support them. >> reporter: for president trump the fight now personal according to the "new york times." the president asked several aides do you believe

there's a special place in hell for people who prey on children. when she was asked about moore by the associated press earlier this month. the times also reporting that the president is down playing one of his own scandals from the past, that now infamous "access hollywood" tape where he boasted about grabbing women. according to the times the president suggested to a senator earlier this year that it was not authentic and repeated that claim to an adviser more recently. the president apologized for those remarks shortly after they were released. meantime many republicans openly worry about what a moore victory will mean. >> if he wins we get the baggage of him winning and it becomes a story every day about whether or not you believe the women or roy moore. if he loses you give the senate seat to a democrat it's time we need all the votes we can get. >> reporter: moore's appearance tonight will be at a republican rally

traffic. it's a mess in college park on the inner loop exit 27 to go north on 95, you're looking at the delay. what happened was a trailer tipped over, threw a couple cars on to and over the guardrail and sparked a brush fire. this is video from earlier shot by chopper 4. there you can see the tipped over trailer and the response. this is when the ramp was blocked, now traffic is getting by in a single right lane but with long delays away from silver spring on the inner loop. the ramp to 95 north getting by on the right. that is the latest from the wtop traffic center. back to you. swell take a quick break now, your forecast is next.

make it the single biggest day of online shopping in the u.s. >> i just take a chance. >> it's more of a hassle for us to get out of the house. i can be on my tophone and ordea tv and it's here tomorrow. >> reporter: retailers are offering deep discounts with just a few clicks. shoppers spent nearly $5 billion online on black friday alone, an increase of 17% of last year. and more than half of those online purchases happened on mobile devices. this, as in-store foot traffic on black friday slowed down by about 1%. but not all department stores are concerned about the uptick in online shopping. the ceo of kohl's said the chap had a record breaking thanksgiving weekend, with sales and traffic very strong, online and in store, well ahead of last year. another change this year, traditional websites are offering discounts that will go beyond monday.
