down 50 votes to pass the bill. at least half a dozen gop senators are showing varying levels of concern about this legislation. it's 5:08. the university of maryland is cracking down on hate bias incidents. >> several happened on the college park campus in the past few months. the school just released a new policy how to handle them. justin finch live on campus with more on that. justin? >> reporter: aaron, good morning. this new policy aims to keep the campus safe for all. they've weathered high-profile hate-related and bias incidents since last school year. we're talking about the on campus stabbing death of army lieutenant richard collins iii by a umd student back in april. he was found in a frat house on campus. the new policy calls for a hate or bias report to go to a campus police officer or to that office or to the

the husband of a woman who killed herself is making funeral arrangements. he tells our tracee wilkins that -- battling depressionment he did not want to talk on camera yesterday. the mother and 2-year-old boy were found dead inside a home they moved out of a few weeks ago. in spotsylvania county, an update to a murder-suicide that happened over the weekend. >> the medical examiner just finished autopsies of the three people found dead. sheriff's investigators believe he shot his wife and daughter megan before taking his own life. waterford drive on saturday. neighbors called 9-1-1 after they noticed the family dog running loose and the door opened to the home. no one can understand why this would happen. >> my neighbor called me. someone called her and told me. it was just unbelievable. you know, nobody would ever thiof

of dollars. odds are when you're out and about shopping in a mall, someone is watching you. christmas anti-theft team made several arrests at tysons mall over the weekend. >> four women from new york were detained from stealing from stores. they've stolen $29,000 worth of merchandise. police say the investigation uncovered that the women are part of an organized retail crime group in stores across the country. knowing they're there makes me feel safer about shopping. the follow-up. now we know more about a deadly house fire in prince george's county. fire officials responded to this fire earlier this mornt. they've identified the two people killed in the fire as a mother and her son. the mother, was 83 years old, her son was 62. a problem with an electrical outlet sparked the fire and

tonight, there will be a final viewing for a baltimore homicide detective killed on the job. sean suiter's funeral will be tomorrow in baltimore. he was shot in the head two weeks ago with his own gun by an unknown gunman. suiter was a federal witness against other police officers and was set to testify before a grand jury the day after he was killed. they have no reason to believe the shooting was related to that testimony. a reminder for red line riders. leave yourself extra time. trains are not running between silver spring and fort totten. we saw these long linings and major delays yesterday. the shuttles between the stations should be more reliable this morning. they were delayed yesterday because a crash caused backups on nearby roads and people were really frustrated as they waited in line to board the buses. metro said it has plenty of shuttles to move riders between stations. they are running, again, betwe
