suiter was a father of five. d.c. native. shot while investigating a murder earlier this week. still no arrests have been made. we are staying on top of the latest developments on the missile launch from north korea. north korea launched a missile called it hwasong-14 near japan. pentagon confirmed it was likely an icbm and went higher than other missile tests. today they'll have an emergency meeting to discuss this latest launch. >> they held a phone conference following the launch. both leaders strongly condemn the test. and the president just promised new sanctions against the regime. nbc bill neely has more. >> reporter: the white house seems to be playing down this launch suggesting that it's significance shouldn't be overstated given the

north korean launches so far this year, that's 18 since president trump inauguration. and also suggesting that it is no surprise. remember, just last week, the u.s. declared north korea once again a state sponsor of terror and slapped new sanctions on it. while this morning, north korea leader kim jong-un is as defiant as ever. because he has launched his most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile so far. it flew higher and further than ever before. north korea is also saying it had at its front a heavy pay load mimicking, if you like, the weight of a real nuclear weapon. and north korea is also suggesting that it can now hit not just the west coast of the united states, but new york, washington, basically anywhere. none of that is a proven fact. that is simply north korea's claim. >> we will take care of it. we have gener

wage and stopping health care premiums. well, when you are sick you can either stay home and heal or go to work and pay the bills. will is a renewed effort to choosing between your health and obligation. governor said sick leave bill pulled from the bill he vetoed. required companies with 25 or more companies to provide sick leave by 2020. also includes $100 million in tax incentives to help businesses offset the cost. and it allows the businesses to apply to opt out if they prove they cannot afford it. governor hogan will submit his bill when the general assembly meets in january. d.c. school chancellor is set to speak about the school. the school celebrated the announcement that every 2017 graduate had been accepted to college. we

this deadly trend? joining us today to talk about this important intervention. one in particular we'll talk about, but this is amazing, it's very surprising, talk about this, and really what kind of numbers are we talking about, dr. weiner? >> so the estimate is that from the third or fourth quarter of 2015 through the fourth quarter 2016 roughly 2,000 died from accidental overdose. so in perspective that's more than the aides crisis in 1995 when dwit was at its peak. so this is really staggering. >> it is. so a lot of talk we've heard a lot of things about narcan, what these firefighters, emts have on their trucks and can give, and immediately helps the person back to reality. >> exactly. >> there is also something now thatan

>> right. so there is a medication called mall trex son very similar in the same family of narcan but lasts longer. narcan kicks in but wares off relatively quickly. now this new one takes a couple of hours to kick in, so if you take it in a pill form, or injection called via troll, that lasts one month. so what that means if you have this floating around in your system, even if you were to go and try to take something, try to get high, it just won't work. so it's impossible to overdose if you are on one of these medications. and other great thing is it takes away that psychological craving. it doesn't takeaway the physical cravings or physical withdrawal symptoms. >> but knowing the drugs aren't going to work. >> exactly. so i'll hear from patients i had the thought of wanting to go do something or score something, but then

so quickly able to manufacture onto another thought and not go there. >> is this stg a lot of doctors are using? i know you are sort of on the cutting edge all the time and telling us new things. and how do you get the medication if you know somebody who might need it? is it expensive? is it covered? >> i do think this is a medication that is known. it's actually in the case of via troll it's approved for helping with alcoholism. so also decreases alcohol cravings. i don't think there is a whole lot of people who are necessarily thinking about this right away when it comes to treating opioid abuse. i think they should be. as far as how much it costs and how you get it, you do want to bring this up, talk tour doct y doctor about it. from the cost perspective, via troll is very expensive medication if tu don't have insurance. but the manufacturer does provide a coupon if you have insurance to lower the cost. if you don't, it helps but it's still going to be very expensive. now trex son on the other hand
