now at 11:00, nbc news responds to new reports about misconduct by fired "today" show host matt lauer. one accuser calling it a pattern of behavior. plus video of a suspected armed robber's arrest captured by a local

tonight we talk to the pilot who tracked him down. and the scheduling glitch that made a lot of airline pilots happy but also left thousands of full flights around christmas with no one to fly them. he's been a face of the nbc network, a presence in your homes for more than two decades. tonight we're still waiting to hear from matt lauer about allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. we've learned a lot about this story since finding out from lauer's co-anchors this morning that he'd been fired from the "today" show after a colleague came forward about incidents dating back to the 2014 olympics. we know nbc has received at least two new complaints about him since then. and a new published report out this evening alleges a pattern of sexual misconduct by lauer with female co-workers. the "variety" magazine report details an incident where he le

woman in his office and scolded her for denying his advance. other women say he extended late-night invitations to colleagues to join him in his hotel room while he was covering the olympics. the magazine also reports several women made complaints to nbc executives which were ignored. a spokesman for nbc news says, "we can say unequivocally that prior to monday night current nbc news management was never made aware of any complaints about matt lauer's conduct." meanwhile, tonight another broadcast that was supposed to include lauer went on without him. >> is everybody ready? >> you better cozy up to that button. >> countdown. five, four, three, two, one! >> savannah, al, and hoda joined by lester holt at the annual christmas in rockefeller center broadcast tonight with no mention of their

co-host. natalie morales was emotional tonight when she addressed the news on "access hollywood." >> well, i'm brokenhearted for everyone involved. obviously the "today" show's been my family for 16 years now. it's difficult on everyone right now. and i know, i've dealt with my share of rumors in the past that were hurtful to my family and to me. i think they diminished my work. i addressed those head on in the past. that is not the story. the story is about the courage of a colleague coming forward. it was very brave of her. it's no doubt a very painful decision. i think it's been painful for everyone involved. >> matt lauer's firing may be the news of the day, but it won't be addressed on tonight's late-night program. seth meyers tweeting that "due to the christmas tree lighting" his show was taped yesterday. and if you're wondering why any of today's news is conspicuously absent this evening, now you know. no word from jimmy fallon about "the tonight show." on to other news now.

woodbridge thought he'd evaded police by hiding under a back yard deck, but he forgot to look up. those images were from the fairfax county police helicopter that found him. new at 11:00 tonight, news 4's jackie bensen spoke to the pilot. >> fairfax one. >> can you tell which of these blobs of light seen with an infrared camera is a man trying to hide? a fairfax county police officer hovering far above the scene in a helicopter spotted him no problem. >> basically looking for warm heat signatures in areas that would be odd for heat to be coming from them. >> prince william county police requested the assistance of the helicopter early monday morning. they were trying to catch a man who'd robbed one convenience store in woodbridge minutes after attempting to rob another and was headed for a third. andrew wiseman was in the pilot's seat of fairfax one. >> what happened is i have to put them in a position where they can look with the camera and be able to spot the individual. and sometimes it requires moving around to

certain spots so they can look directly down on the individual. >> video from the infrared camera shows prince william county police including canines closing in to make the arrest. the suspect surrendered without resisting. >> our practice is to stay overhead until the subject is in custody just for officer safety reasons. so if anything does happen we can call out and have more help come. >> reporter: that suspect, 17 years old, has been charged with robbery. in fairfax county jackie bensen, news 4. an 18-year-old died in an early morning crash in montgomery county today. yonatan tedros of silver spring had just graduated from wheaten high school earlier this year. this morning his car slammed into several others at connecticut avenue and dean road in wheaten. the crash injured four other people. they're all expected to be okay. it's still unclear what caused this crash. parents and staff of d.c. public schools are stunned after learning about a grades scandal at one district high school. an investigation by npr and

radio discovered only 57 students at bellew high school were expected to graduate last spring but 164 students received diplomas in june. half of the graduates had missed more than three months of school. some teachers say school administrators pressured them to pass students with failing grades. >> they're not getting an education, the right education, and just being passed on. you know, passed by. not fair for our kids. at all. >> after this news broke d.c. mayor muriel bowser ordered her staff to conduct an extensive review of compliance with graduation requirements. but some community leaders want an outside firm to do an audit. so far nobody has been fired or placed on leave. a number of women are suing the prince george's hospital center after learning that their ob-gyn used fake credentials. charles akota pleaded guilty last year and served jail time. he a

documents including social security numbers, passports, immigration documents, and medical diplomas. the hospital vowed to defend the lawsuit, but it acknowledged that he had what it calls a complex sophisticated identity theft scheme. tonight american airlines is taking steps to avoid canceling flights over the busy holiday travel period after a scheduling glitch left thousands of flights with no pilot. no glitch allowed too many pilots to take vacation during the christmas travel week. the pilots union says it's left 15,000 flights without a captain or a co-pilot or in some cases both. tonight we're working for you to see how serious the issue is and how it might impact your plans. >> around the holidays you don't have that kind of margin for error. so an airline can't afford to have something go wrong. the fortunate thing here is that we are still more than two weeks away from the affected flights. so as sudden as it feels, it's not really that sudden in

i'm shomari stone, news 4. >> thisser's "forbes" list includes another familiar face from our area, braden holtby of the washington capitals. tonight was the annual norwegian christmas tree lighting ceremony at union station. the tree is a gift to the people of washington and a symbol of the friendship between the united states and norway. it symbolizes norway's gratitude for help received during and after world war ii. it's been on display every year since 1997. pretty. and be prepared for a tricky commute home tomorrow night if you have to go through the city during the christmas tree lighting downtown, which always causes a lot of traffic. this year the tree on the ellipse is more than 30 feet tall and will be covered in more than 75,000 lights. there are also 56 other trees around it, one for each state and territory. the beach boys and wynonna jud with the u.s. navy band along
