scene. in gaithersburg this morning -- >> this has closed the stretch of the a busy highway. we're working for you with team coverage in first 4 traffic. melissa mollet will help get us around that mess. >> but first, news 4's megan mcgrath is live on the scene right there. megan, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, we started to see some of the pepco trucks moving around here. they positioned next to the broken power pole there and looks like maybe they have cut the power. they've been successful. they've been cutting the power to the downed lines and start the work of making a repair. quite a repair it's going to be. you can see we have that suv on its side. the power pole, the yu tilt pole just snapped in have there. we have all kinds of lines running through the area. apparently, another utility pole may be compromised. this is a big fix. ma

we're talking about north frederick avenue. 355 running through gaithersburg here, it is closed in both directions. that's going to be the case we're told for several hours. this is a big job and they've got a lot of different things that they've got to do here. they've got to fix the poles an the lines. ultimately, they have to tow that suv out of here. the accident happened several hours ago. no injuries, but this is going to be something that kind of lingers throughout the morning. so keep that in mind if you take north frederick avenue through gaithersburg. now with more on the work around and what folks should do, we're going to send it over to melissa. this is a tough one here. >> it is megan, a tough one. if you know that area, lots of neighborhoods here linking that section where megan is standing here. let's take a look at this. you can see above here with chopper 4 this morning. north frederick avenue at chestnut street. this is the scene megan was showing us. this suv on the side with the pole and wires

injuries or any serious damage. in our area, also felt the quake. >> including your chris lawrence. he's in the newsroom with more on the impact felt around here. chris? >> aaron, this wasn't as powerful as the earthquake a lot of us experienced six years ago. but it was enough to set social media on fire. the quake was centered about six miles north of dover. people felt the rumbling as far away as falls church. one man was sitting down with his dog to watch the tree lighting ceremony on tv. got quite a surprise. all of a sudden i felt the couch kind of shake for about two seconds. >> the u.s.gs has been getting shaking from north carolina and connecticut. here in our area. a lot of folks felt the shaking in virginia. i was sitting at a kitchen table working on a project with my daughter and we felt our whole house shaking. >> chris, thank you. six minutes after the hour now. exactly how much stro w

we felt yesterday? >> that one six years ago in mineral virginia was near charlottesville. it was 5.8. yesterday's quake was 4.1. that means the 2011 quake was more than 50 times bigger and 350 times stronger than yesterday's earthquake. in terms of the energy it released. the epicenters of two earthquakes were 250 miles apart. we're following a developing story out of bowie. the pilot who crashed the plane near freeway airport is going to be okay. chopper 4 over that scene last night while investigators were examining the plane, it was pretty dark out there. the pilot said he clipped the tree line as he was trying to land because there were no lights at the airport. out of hyattsville, a man was attacked by another man he thought was trying to help him. >> the suspect was dressed like

badge and was in a fake police cruiser. justin finch is live in hyattsville this morning. justin, disturbing details here. >> reporter: what's more chilling about this case is that police believe there could be more victims out there. here's a look at where all of this happened. we're talking about the 2100 block of guilford road in hyattsville and now under arrest. the suspect here, michael bell of upper marlboro, facing several charges, including rape and posing as a police officer. now, early sunday morning, police say bell stopped a man in his 2007 crown victoria which you can see does look like a police car. the victim says that bell told him he was in an unsafe area and that he was an undercover cop. he says bell took his i.d. and offered him a safe ride home. around bell's neck, look at this. security worker's badge which does resemble a police badge and in bell's car,

he was forced into unwanted sex acts. at this point, we don't know how many other victims we may have. we may have no other victims. we're not taking any chances based on what we found in the car. we do want people to come forward. our investigation is continuing. as you heard there, police believe there may be more victims out there. bell was found with other people's identifications as well. making them believe there could be other people who were victimized, possibly in the way that man was victimized last sunday. live from palmer park, i'm justin finch, news 4. back to you. >> justin, thank you. 5:08 now. we're learning new details about matt lauer's firing from the "today" show. six women now accused him of sexual misconduct. lauer was abruptly fired from the "today" show earlier this week following a complaint from a colleague. nbc news confirms the alleged behavior began at the 2014 olympics in sochi russia, a

megan mcgrath is live on the scene as well. a verdict in a case that sparked a national debate on immigration policies. yesterday, the san francisco jury acquitted a homeless mexican immigrant. jose czarate was found not guilty. the suspect found the gun and deliberately fired at her, the defense said it was not deliberate. what do you say to the woman's family because we can't secure our border. za rat was deported many times before this. a hunter being charged with manslaughter after hours of accidentally shooting and killing his neighbor. he pled not guilty.

accidental. rosemary bill kwis was walking her two yellow labs near her home on thanksgiving eve when she was shot and killed. he fired the shot in the dark and did not see her. d.c. police are looking for those who -- nine people have been o robbed. one incident happened in the hillcrest neighborhood in southeast earlier this week. several roofers were working on a house there when two masked men robbed them at gunpoint. on monday, in northeast, armed robbers held up workers at three different locations in the same neighborhood minutes apart. police have little to go on at this point. they're looking for a black get away car with faded paint on the hood. two, one. with the flip of a switch, the holiday season has begun in washington, d.c. p

15 before the hour. right now we're one week away from a government shutdown. the government will run out of money to pay its bills unless congress can pass a spending bill. the "washington post" reports that president trump told two confidants that he thinks a government shutdown could be good for him politically. they're producing a bill to keep the government open through the 22nd. gop senators are focused on tax reform and reworking the tax plan to vote on it this morning. >> senators delayed the vote last night when they couldn't agree on the so-called fiscal trigger. edward lawrence is live on the hill for us. edward, help people understand this fiscal trigger and why it's a sticking point. >> aaron, a big concern for a lot of the senators or a number of them is the amount the deficit would increase, even with the economic growth. senators want to institute triggers where if the economy don grow at a certain level, the

and snap a photos of the car's tags. they're hoping that his mugshot now and evidence you're about to see will turn up other possible victims. this attack was called in early sunday morning in 2100 block of guilford road. the suspect here, michael bs bell of upper marl bow borrow. he's being held on charges of rape and posing as a police officer. he is accused of stopping a young man in in. his 2007 crown victoria, which looks like a police cruiser. the victim says that bell told him he was an undercover cop. that bell took his i.d. and offered a safe ride home from a so-called dangerous area. so the victim got in and now look at this. the victim says that bell had this security badge around his neck, which you can see does resemble a police badge. bell sexually assaulted him
