who says her daughter hasn't been able to go back to class. are you heading out to cut down your christmas tree this weekend? why you may have to open your wallet a little wider this year. news4 at 4:00 begins with breaking news. >> and first this afternoon, the special counsel's russia investigation takes a new turn with a guilty plea by former national security advisor michael flynn. >> just weeks after donald trump moved into the white house, he forced flynn to resign. today after pleading guilty to lying to the fbi, flynn was faced with a new humiliation. >> lock him up! lock him up! lock him up! >> somebody outside the courthouse repeatedly yelling "lock him up." that's for flynn leading a similar chant aimed at hillary clinton during the presidential campaign. >> blayne alexander has been pouring overall of the court documents today. she joins us now to break it all down for us. blayne?

this is a major development because this now brings this investigation closer to home for president trump. as you know, of course, flynn was part of his inner circle during the campaign. he came to the white house and even held the highest national security clearance as the national security advisor until he was forced to resign back in february. >> hey, flynn! >> reporter: today a major development in the russia investigation. michael flynn pleading guilty to lying to the fbi about his communications with russia. the former national security advisor now the first person who worked inside the trump white house to face charges. >> this admission of guilt by the former national security advisor is a shattering moment for the trump presidency. >> reporter: flynn today saying his decision to cooperate was made, quote, in the best interest of my family and of our country and adding, i accept full responsibility for my actions. that tells you that he

robert mueller believes to be of significant value. >> reporter: the charges stemming from two meetings flynn held with the russian ambassador in the month before president-elect trump took office. nbc news has confirmed that one of those meetings came at the direction of jared kushner, president trump's son-in-law and senior advisor. special counsel robert mueller has already charged three other people in this investigation. president trump has repeatedly dismissed the investigation as a witch hunt. >> i think most of us believe it's not a witch hunt or a hoax and that the fbi director and all others believe this is a legitimate concern. >> reporter: the president today ignoring shouted questions. >> could you comment on michael flynn? >> reporter: and he abruptly canceled the photo op with the prime minister of libya. the personal attorney said nothing about the guilty plea or the charge implicates anyone other than mr. flynn. and typically this charge can bring up to five years in

security footage shows them breaking into a multi-million dollar mansion in upper northwest and telling the owner she had to go. news4's mark segraves broke this story the first time, and has the latest. >> reporter: the first incident happened in early november. surveillance video shows the moment when the homeowner was confronted by the man and woman claiming the house belonged to them. >> this is our ancestors' place. >> who are you? >> reporter: the homeowner called police and the couple was arrested and charged with unlawful entry. the next day, a judge released them, but ordered them to return to court for another hearing, but they never showed up. >> and mark segraves also reports that, according to court documents, the couple actually moved furniture into the latest home in adams morgan. they even changed the locks. when police came to the house, the couple

approach the conversation with your children? do you avoid it? do you let them bring it up? how do you discuss? this is a difficult topic. >> and i think you can really lead in by allowing them to tell you what they know about it. they are hearing it. it's unavoidable. and when you strike up the conversation, you don't have to feel pressure about saying the right things. you want to hear from them first. what do they understand about what's going on? >> okay, what they've been hearing and what they may think in their minds of what the terminology means and what they think these people may have done. so, let's go a little further. different ages, right? so, different conversations or the approach perhaps is different for, let's say you have a child that is ten years old or you have a 15-year-old son or daughter. how do you approach those conversations? what is the difference there? >> right. so, you want to use language that's developmentally appropriate and you want to really speak to their level and also understand what they know. so, younger child, you're going to be using, you

that's very easy to understand and asking them how they feel or what they understand about the topic. and then as your children age, you want to continue this discussion. it's not one that you have one time and walk away from. it's about an ongoing safety discussion that you have with your kids. and as they are getting older, you really want to help them understand what consent means and what these words mean and what sexual assault is. >> i think you hit on an important topic there. as children get older, specifically adolescents who are starting to take interest in girls. how do you help them know how it's okay to express interest in a young lady? >> well, i think it's important to first start by saying as a young man, you're going through something or young woman, you're going through something that everybody has gone through, being attracted to a peer. and you want to teach them about healthy boundaries and about how to maintain those healthy and safe boundaries. and also understand when someone is uncomfortable. >> sure. >>

8:00 a.m. bundle up. it will be a cold one to start for sure. 33 degrees by 9:00, 10uk a little better, temperature 42. amelia great with girls on the run. get out there and enjoy that up in frederick. 57 on yurp sunday, nice. 57 on monday, pretty good. 62 degrees on tuesday, a chance for some shower activity, but not a lot. temperature around 62 degrees, but look what happens here. wednesday we see falling temperatures. we may start wednesday morning in the upper 50s and then we're going to drop during the day and we're going end the day in the 30s. i've got 50, but that's not really going to be the high for the day. and then watch what happens here on thursday. again, mild air, warm air out ahead of this tuesday and wednesday, and then here comes the cold air, a major pattern change, not just for the end of next week and into the weekend, but probably the rest of the month. turning much coaler, more frequent storms. we've been very dry, haven't seen a lot of storms. we are tracking this and tracking a chance for snow next friday into saturday.
