6:15 pm
bigger news today isn't mike flynn pled guilty, it's that mike flynn is cooperating with bob mueller. mike flynn was probably the president's most frequent travel come pain i don't know th companion that wasn't paid for by the campaign. he was there when cory lewandowski was there. all those guys came and went, mike flynn was there. so, this is somebody who has, i think, a lot of interactions to share with bob mueller, with jared kushner, the president's son-in-law, a lot of interactions with donald trump, jr. i think at this point the reason why there is a lot of nervous us nervousness in the white house, there's not many more places to go than mike flynn. the dots left are kushner, trump junior, trump. >> as we know, president trump has been protecting from the get-go mike flynn. what are we to read into that? >> you know, that's the part of this to me that makes this the 5-a

going off. i think it's the 5-alarm in that sense because the reason why bob mueller has a job is because the president was trying to get james comey to drop an investigation onto mike flynn. clearly the president is nervous about what mike flynn knows. to me, the most -- and there's more evidence here -- there may be really -- there really might have been a conspiracy that was being kept from others because you read this plea deal, and you realize that mike flynn is saying, no, he got direction to talk about sanctions with the russian ambassador. the vice-president of the united states and the incoming chief of staff at the time reince priebus both went on television shows, one of them was mine on sunday, and said unequivocally that mike flynn did not discuss sanctions in there. so either they lied, or flynn and somebody else is keeping stuff from pence and priebus, which is entirely possible. and that just tells you, oh, wow, there may be people that know stuff and people that were keo

keeping people out of the loop, then all of a sudden you have somebody focusing on a conspiracy of some sort. >> all right. let's talk about the tax reform plan. a reuters poll this week suggests nearly half of americans oppose this. so, what's the calculus here on the part of the republicans? >> well, i think it's more about the process than the substance, meaning they just feel as if it's worse for them politically if they do nothing, right. this is a year they haven't had a major legislative accomplishment. so -- and their donors have been screaming about this for such a long time, and donors -- i think lindsey graham said it publicly. if we don't do this, the donors won't be there for the 2018 midterm. so, that's the motivation here. this is a purely political survival motivation. i have to he witell you, their to get this done has i think really hampered their ability to sell this bill to the public. and the democrats and frankly the media analysis of all of this, we've all dug

look at it they just sit there, they don't get it. i'm sorry, it is hard to sell something politically that says permanent tax cuts for corporate america, temporary tax cuts for some of you in the middle class. that is very easy to turn into an attack ad. >> they don't seem to care about the fact that the majority of americans oppose it. >> they still believe that over time they can win this argument. but i remember barack obama and the democrats believing oh, don't worry, as soon as we pass health care then we can sell it. good luck with that. we learned that strategy didn't work for obama. i don't know if it's going to work for trump. >> very busy week, very busy friday. who do you have on the show? >> democratic committee, susan collins, and then we've got a former trump campaign -- two former trump campaign officials who have written a book together. cory lie cory lewandowski. >> good timing. >> let trump be trump is the nam
