his release and lifetime sex offender registration. d.c. superior court judge sentenced former public teacher manual garcia to the maximum penalty available under his guilty plea. the courtroom was filled to overflowing with parents and others, many of whom wore green ribbons in a show of support for the young victims. >> it was extremely tense. pretty much the entire time the prosecution, people had given their statements. it was parents crying. so many tears. everybody was crying. >> reporter: garcia fernandez pleaded guilty to sexually abusing at least six elementary age students boys and girls at the northeast d.c. campus. prosecutors said he molested the children sometimes during games of hide and seek. his family some of whom traveled to the u.s. from spain pleaded for leniency. he apologized saying i'm

and that's possible. there may be people that know stuff and people that kept out of the loop and if you're intentionally keeping people out of the loop you have a conspiracy. to keep you in the loop in this investigation, "meet the press" airs sunday morning at 10:30 on news4. breaking news now. any minute the senate is expected to vote on the massive republican tax plan. i want to show you a live look at the senate floor. bob corker is the only senator to say he will vote against the $1.4 trillion tax bill. this will temporarily cut individual tax rates. there are no guarantees that everybody in the middle class will see their taxes go down. it would slash the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20% and add some tax breaks while eliminating other popular ones. earlier tonight democrats mocked the late delivery of this hefty

ththe #wewillfindyou. some great news for one of our biggest bridges. virginia lawmakers announced a $227 million contract to fully repair the arlington memorial bridge. adam tuss has been covering these bridge problems for years now. the national park service approved the plan. it's working to make sure as many drivers as possible will continue to use the bridge during the rehab. >> during the construction work we anticipate that three lanes of traffic at a minimum will be open at all times. >> now construction's expected to begin next fall with most of the work done by 2021. the project is expected to give the bridge an extra 85 to 100 year life span. >> a big change is coming monday to rush hour on i-66. drivers will need an easy pass flex to travel on the express lanes. between the morning hours of 5:30 and 9:30 eastbound and in the evening between 3:00 and

the newly engaged royal couple has completed another official first, first proposal to support prince harry's beloved charities. we have highlights of the day. >> reporter: britain's prince harry and his fiancee meghan markle are making it clear that humanitarian and charitable work is a top priority for them. they chose nottingham england as the location of their first post proposal public engagement. on this world aids day they visited a charity aids fair in the central english city. there the couple spoke to hiv activist and several people living with the disease. >> you can clearly see that there's an immense amount of love and adation for each other. also for the work. >> reporter: harry's late mother, princess diana was instrumental during her life for breaking down the stigma attached to the disease. harry and now megan, plan to continue following closely in her foot steps. the royal couple also met students at not willingham academy and watched a rap performance as part of an antiviolence program. >> you canee

>> reporter: this was prince harry's third trip to nottingham since establishing the aids charities there in 2016. a fitting first stop for a royal couple kicking off what will be months of travel as markel learns more about the country she will soon call home. nbc news. maryland's first medical marijuana dispensary is now open and its busy. there was a line around the block today to get into it just off the road here. before patients can pain reduction and improve peoples' lives. >> this is for medical marijuana only. recreational use still illegal in maryland. at least six other medical marijuana dispensaries are slated to open in the state soon. you could pay for at the christmas tree farm this weekend. a nationwide stortage is driving prices up as much as 10%. growers blame the recession. fewer people bought trees in 2008 and that clogged up space to plant new ones that would be ready this season. we visited pine valley farms in maryland, the farm says it expects tomorrow to be its busy day of the year. >> takes a while to grow those things. >> whether or not you'll have good weather to get out there and get that big, beautiful tree. what do we got? thumbs up? >> thumbs up both days, saturday and sunday. if you want all day sunshine, you might want to pick sunday. i think we'll see more cloud cover during the day tomorrow. takes about ten years to grow
