michael flynn. in a tweet he suggested he knew flynn lied to the fbi. you'll remember the president later asked fbi director james comey to shut down its investigation into his former adviser. flynn is the first white house official to be charged in the investigation of russian meddling into the presidential election. meanwhile, special counsel robert mueller has removed a top fbi agent helping in the probe. the dismissal comes after reports that the agent sent anti-trump text messages. and lawmakers are busy on capitol hill trying to avoid a government shutdown. house republicans unveiled a plan today to keep the lights on through december 22nd. it would buy time for bipartisan talks on a bigger budget agreement. meanwhile, president trump is spending the day fund-raising in new york city. he's calling the just-passed senate tax bill a win for the american people. nbc's chris polone has a closer look at the bill and what it could mean for you.

president donald trump at a republican party fund-raiser in midtown manhattan saturday morning decrying the tax bill senate republicans passed just hours before. >> the tax cuts and jobs act as amended is passed. >> reporter: in front of a group of republican party donors the president claimed victory. >> but what we're doing is if you look at it we're going to grow the country. we're going to grow jobs. we're going to be growing everything. >> reporter: the bill passed 51-49 early saturday morning with tennessee republican bob corker joining democrats in voting against it. the bill more than 400 pages long distributed just hours before the vote with some parts written by hand in the marginma. >> i want you to take a look at this, folks. this is your government work. >> reporter: the plan would slash the corporate tax rate and offer more modest cuts to families and individuals. it would also repeal the individual mandate to buy health insurance. republicans insist it will jumpstart the economy, benefiting everyone. >> this bill is

it's about restoring the american dream. >> reporter: but the tax policy center predicts 2/3 of middle-class earners would ultimately see tax increases. >> according to every independent study, the legislation passed last night gives incredibly large tax breaks to the very, very wealthy. it raises taxes on millions of middle-class families. >> reporter: there are big differences in the house and senate versions of the tax plan. a final round of negotiations will hammer out the details over the next few weeks. chris polone, nbc news, new york. turning to your forecast now, storm team 4 meteorologist joins us with a look at the rest of tonight and a big change next week. >> we've got a major temperature swing on the

things down to the upper 30s. if you're going out tonight let's walk through this one. for the evening dinners around 7:00 we're dry. temperatures in the mid 40s. as we head through the overnight hours, my evening revelers, you will be down into the low 40s. we're dropping to the upper 30s for a lot of suburbs overnight. and we are watching a few sprinkles that could be coming down late tonight into early tomorrow morning. nothing major. i wouldn't worry about it. i want to talk to you about that temperature swing. and can we talking more? erika over to you. police tried to save his life but a man found stabbed in k35r7b8da has died. fair axe county police found luis ernesto bonilla in a wooded area on fairchild drive in the mount vernon district. he later died at the hospital. police used a helicopter and a canine to track down any suspects. we're working to laerp about a possible motive and whether or not they've been able to arrest anybody in this case. december brings a lot of joy

sadness to people. d.c. police know how difficult this time of year can be for friends and families of homicide victims. as news 4's derrick ward reports, a gath kreering starten years ago helps ease that pain. >> reporter: it's probably the saddest holiday gathering you'll find, one to which no one wants to be invited yet they come. >> it's important to me for kenyetta and how she was so suddenly taken. >> reporter: each ornament placed on this tree represents a life lost to violence. the loved ones left behind are victims too. the emptiness never leaves them. and during this season of joy they bear the weight of sorrow. >> i didn't know it was going to be this hard on me. it's never going to get easy no matter what i do. >> reporter: the lights are lowered and the sad toll is read. their names and pictures displayed. you can't help but be struck at how many young faces appear there in the darkness. >> my son was only 19. they shot him ten times. >> reporter: but this remembrance isn't just about reliving the pain. in a way what's given to these

we now have the autopsy results in the ashanti billie murder case. but they still leave many unanswered questions about the death of the prince george's county resident. the report shows billie's body was found decomposed and that she died of, quote, undetermined trauma. billie went missing in september not showing up for work at a navy base in norfolk. her body was found days later in north carolina, a homeless navy veteran is charged in her kidnapping and murder. a jury convicted a former stanford university swimmer of rape. but now brock turner is appealing the ruling even after serving his sentence. turner served three months in prison after his conviction in march of last year. turner sexually assaulted an unconscious woman outside a fraternity house party. turner's legal team argues

>> announcer: you're watching news 4 at 6:00. a sad development in the search for this little girl in north carolina. law enforcement officers don't believe that 3-year-old mariah woods is alive. her mom reported her missing on monday morning. well, the mom's live-in boyfriend allegedly told her that the little girl woke up sunday night and that he just told her to go back to sleep. police later arrested the boyfriend, charging him with concealing the death and obstruction of justice. investigators say new evidence leads them to believe mariah is dead. it's dark and it's chilly and a d.c. family is pretty frantic tonight after their 15-year-old son went missing. ibrahim sharif was last seen yesterday on farragut street in northwe.

he was last seen wearing an orange shirt, black jacket, and khaki pants. if you've seen him, please call police. well, they are more than just gifts. they are toys that will do wonders for less fortunate children this holiday season. but sorting all of these gifts takes a lot of coordinating. today in prince george's county volunteers helped organize all those gifts during the angel tree community day. the salvation army provided nearly 14,000 children in the district with christmas presents last year. the presents will be handed out later this month. and nbc 4 is a sproud sponsor of this angel tree program. lots of people are spending this wreeeekend getting their christmas trees. amy o'cho is live at one of the tree lots in d.c. selling trees for a good cause. amy? >> reporter: erika, that's right. they are selling it for a good cause, it's to support the boy scouts. but we are certainly seeing the effects of the nationwide tree

back here is normally completely full of trees. but as you can see, it's looking pretty empty tonight, and the boy scouts tell me they're down to their last 20 trees. they don't have any more in storage. they don't have any more shipments coming in. this is it. now, the reason for this shortage goings back to the recession in 2008. there was less demand for christmas trees, so farmers started cutting back on how much they were producing, and that shortage is just starting to catch up now. >> some customers want to get it like as soon as possible just because they've been going everywhere and no one has any more trees. troops have been opening and within a couple hours they're all sold out. we're pretty worried because we're not sure if it will happen again next year. typically tree shortages don't happen that often. this is the first time it's happened. >> reporter: and the boy scouts tell me they have had to raise their prices a little bit but they didn't want to raise them too much. they wanted to make sure everybody could still afford a tree. erika? >> all right. aimee cho live in northwest for us tonight. thank you. and that brings us to storm team 4 meteorologist somara thre

current temperatures. 49 in washington, d.c. 46 outdoors leesburg already in the upper 30s. up toward frederick, maryland. and we are going to be in the upper 30s, low 40s oechbt. so if you're going to be doing any tree lighting or going to watch tree lighting maybe drive through the neighborhoods. and look at the lights on people's houses. i remember doing that. temperatures going to be in the 40s. mostly cloudy out there. so make sure you bundle up. let's talk about the sprinkles i was talking about. we have the clouds moving in overnight. and then i'd say 4:00, 5:00 a.m. we could see a light shower, some sprinkles lot through here. but definitely not going to impact your sunday overall. we'll see a dry sunday. here's a look at that rain outlook. tuesday afternoon and evening those shower chances rev up and i think we'll definitely get the wet weather overnight into your wednesday. just keep that in the back of your mind. here's a look at your forecast. for your sunday temperatures climbing into the low to mid 50s tomorrow. as you can see we're going to stay dry. we'll get some clearing. the clouds we get in here tonight will give way to a good amount of sunshine for your sunday evening. your storm team

we're talking about the showers moving in on tuesday. notice a temperature trend. we're moving from the 50s on sunday and monday into the low 60s. that's because of a warm front on tuesday. now, the cold front moves in, and behind it we are talking some major changes. we go from the 60s on tuesday to falling temperatures throughout the day on wednesday and then we're headed to the 40s. by next weekend, folks, we could be talking temps in the 30s. and here are the two days that we are going to be watching very closely. it's really going to come down to a timing of the system and placement of the system, which will dictate whether or not we see any snow showers as we head toward the end of the week. we'll keep our eye on that. for now, erika, back to you. some pretty scary moments during a men's college basketball game today when a player he collapsed on the court. we want to warn you, it's hard to watch. but the player survives. with the help of medics and training staff that rushed in to help. >> johnson is hurt. it is amazing --

carolina state game. the wolfpack were playing south carolina state. and guard tavoris solomon of south carolina state just collapsed. in this video you can see medical staff doing chest compressions that helped save hesitate life. that game was delayed for about 40 minutes and it's still not clear at this hour what kind of medical condition solomon suffered. and again, we want to mention that he did survive. thankfully to all of those people that were there to help him. all right. so with john wall out and an unlikely player has emerged off the bench for the wizards. the career night that hehad
