>> that was at the udc workforce development center where they opened the doors. we know it started on the first floor of the building on third street southeast. several residents were treated at the scene. the arson unit is investigating the fire. we're following breaking news from the live desk this morning. >> chris lawrence is following the latest on a fast moving fire in california. look at the flames, chris. >> fast is an understatement, eun. when you take a look at the flames, just retweeted some incredible video from our sister station in l.a. this so-called thomas fire is raging through southern california. the brushfire ignited last night and the winds have been driving it ever since. the fire has knocked out power to nearly 200,000 people around san owe paulo. fire officials say at least one person was killed in a car crash frantically trying to escape

tuesday. today the first steps could be taken to add more speed cameras to the road you drive. some of your neighbors actually want more of them. >> they hope that it will cut down on the number of crashes on indian head highway. news 4's justin finch is driving on route 10 right now. justin, i know you've spent a lot of time covering crashes on that road. what's the latest here? >> aaron, there are far too many crashes here. very often the crashes involve speed in some way, shape or form. the thought is that cameras on the roads can make the roads safer and save lives. a lot of support is growing for this. neighbors who live in this area who are fed up with the crime tape and death investigations out here. we also have -- he points out that patrols out here currently are doing what they can, already handing out some 5300 citations. the safety crackdown began out here in

but he says police can't be out here 24/7 but the cameras can. he also points out that with an average of 56 fatalities and more than a thousand crashes, there needs to be a solution. this could be it perhaps. aaa did point out that indian head highway is one of the deadliest stretches of road out here in the d.c. area. a change is needed. also, a public hearing on the cameras being held tonight. back in to you. justin, thank you. to virginia now where we're keeping an eye on the new toll lanes on i-66. chopper 4 captured commuters headed home. on the right side of the screen, you can see the outbound traffic on 50 was bumper to bumper. traffic on i-66 moving nicely. very different from the morning commute. some drivers paid more than $34 to use the new lanes monday morning.
