wait until you see the cold air coming for the weekend and that little chance for rain and snow showers. we'll talk about that coming up in a bit. 5:04. we're following a developing story in prince george's county. >> a terrible accident leaves a young boy fighting for his life. police say a babysitter who was formerly in the military was putting away his legally owned gun. the child was in the room when the gun went off and hit an 11-year-old boy in his upper body. the babysitter drove the boy to the joint base andrew's hospital. they stabilized the boy and moved him to chirnsz hospital. >> we do believe this is a tragic, tragic axe deputy. the 33-year-old man is distraught. we're speaking with him now. we're in the early stages of this investigation. >> the boy remains in children's hosp

they come in. we're learning about the crash that led to this major backup on the beltway. someone crashed into the i-270 spur in bethesda last night. that person got out of his car to check the damage and was then hit by another car. both drivers were taken to the hospital. the driver who got out of his car has life-threatening injuries. we turn now to some new video from those devastating wildfires in california. >> chris lawrence is following the latest at the live desk. what are you seeing? >> complete devastation. nearly a dozen wildfires burning in southern california right now. the biggest and most destructive is the thomas fire which forced governor jerry brown to declare a state of emergency. the blaze has burned 85 square miles, destroyed at least 150 buildings and forced the evacuation of nearly 30,000 people since it started on monday. last check, the thomas fire is still zero percent contained. yeah, i've been looking at some of my friends out in l.a., they're posting stuff with

russia and the trump campaign during the 2016 election. the shooting death of an unarmed d.c. man is now being called unjustified. that's the word after an internal investigation found officer brian trainer violated department policy in the shooting of terrence sterling. the d.c. police review board also says that officer should be fired. police were chasing sterling in september of 2016. officers say sterling's motorcycle ran into a cruiser. that's when trainer fired two shots killing sterling. the police chief says the department is going to be transparent about this. trainer has 55 business days to either accept the recommendation he be fired or challenge it by requesting a hearing. it's 5:07. a man charged with shooting at a montgomery county church is charged. police arrested steve banfield. officers say banfield shot into the church in gaithersburg twice last month. no

a veteran who spent his last $20 to buy a woman some gas is no longer homeless and just in time for the holidays. johnny bobbitt is a former marine corps medic. a woman ran out of gats outside of phil dwr and she didn't have any cash so he walked blocks to buy her cash. she was so touched and set up a go fund me page and people were so moved by his generosity, they donated $400,000. he used some of that money to buy a new house, along with the truck he's been dreaming about. he says he plans to continue to pay that kindness forward. i really believe you receive what you put out in the universe. the fact he used his last $20 to help a stranger says a lot about

fire that broke out in hyattsville. the home has been completely charred. the smoke and fire was burning strongly when firefighters got there. we've been talking with fire investigators who told us no one in that home was hurt in the fire. >> chris, thank you. we're tracking another developing story in prince george's county this morning. police say a 33-year-old babysitter accidentally shot a young boy. this happened at a townhome on bellamy way last night. investigators say the babysitter was putting away his legally owned gun when it went off. the 11-year-old boy was shot in the upper body. he is now in critical condition at children's national medical center. police have not released the identity of the babysitter. president trump is expected to recognize jerusalem as the israeli capital. the decision was made despite intense arab, muslim and european

injuries to his face. police believe someone beat him and then set the place on fire around 7:00 p.m. the victim was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition. do you remember the couple who said their religion gives them the right to take over any property they wish? a judge has now added fraud to the charges against them. antonio bay and mia caldwell claimed to the moorish nationals. they were caught on camera telling a woman to leave her own home near rock creek and tried to move into a property in adam's morgan. they told the judge they're likely to try a third time and were asked to stay in jail until their trial. the judge let them go because neither has a criminal record. 5:35. it could soon be harder for the homeless to find shelter in the district. the d.c. council just approved a bill that would require proof the person actually lived in the city before becoming homeless. council is trying to prevent people from coming into

but here's what supporters of the toll are pointing to. the average speed was 54 miles per hour yesterday compared to 37 miles per hour last year this time. but loudoun county supervisor ron mayer says the new tolling system isn't fair. >> i think people are willing to pay a reasonable, affordable and appropriate toll to use a service they didn't have access to before, but this is just way over the top. >> reporter: he says he wants to put a cap on toll so they don't skyrocket but vdot pushes back saying that will contribute to what we saw a few days ago, backups on the freeway. they say the toll is working because they said they saw a 10-mile-an-hour increase and more throughout points of the morning and evening rush. back to you. >> thank you, live for us this morning alon

this next story is something that is devastating, especially during the holiday season. we brought you this as breaking news yesterday. hundreds of u.p.s. packages destroyed or water logged after a fire at a facility in frederick county, maryland, late monday night. fire officials say ten trucks and a loading dock were damaged in this fire. nobody was hurt and no word on how it started. u.p.s. is contacting affected customers. if you're waiting on a box from u.p.s., you might want to check your tracking number. this morning a local womanle is hopeful that she will finally have her wedding dress delivered today. >> the bride-to-be is only 3 1/2 weeks away from her big day. mashaell abedy ordered it and shipped to her home a month ago. the u.p.s. tracking said it was out for delivery for weeks. >> back and forth across the country, and when i asked why, i'm told that it's been sent to the wrong center,
