remember a man as fun-loving. he was shot and killed by u.s. park police last month. the family is still looking for answers demanding transparency throughout the investigation. police say they followed his suv after a hit-and-run accident on the gw parkway near reagan national. officers tried to stop him but they led him on a chase. he was shot three times in the head after that chase. through the tears, friends and family honored him at last night's vigil. >> my dearest -- angel. full of love, you always expressed that happiness. >> his family says he was unarmed and fbi is now investigating that case. it's 4:31. shutdown averted. congress struck a deal to prevent the government from shutting down this weekend. the agreement helps to buy time for challenging talks on everything from immigration to aid

and puerto rico. lawmakers pass a two-week spending bill yesterday. it is now headed to the president's desk. he is expected to sign it. we're learning a lot more about what forced arizona congressman trent franks to resign amid a house ethics committee probe. he made two female staffers feel uncomfortable after discussing his interest in finding a surrogate mother. he and his wife used a surrogate for the birth of their twints. his resignation is the third one announced this week. we'll learn more about when senator al franken says he's stepping down. roy moore, he's going to hold a campaign-style rally a short drive from alabama. the president will be in pensacola today, about 28 miles from the border. moore has been accused of having inappropriate sexual relations with several women, including some under the age of 18. moore is facing off against doug jones in this tight race and coming up

we are two months away from the start of the winter olympics in south korea. there are big concerns about the athletes' safety. in an interview, u.n. ambassador nikki haley suggested that u.s. participation was still up in the air. there's an open question. it's always about how do we protect the u.s. citizens in the area. >> then more confusion at the white house briefing where press secretary sara huckabee sanders said no official decision has been made. she later tweeted the u.s. will participate. the u.s. olympic committee said there was never any talks about athletes not attending. the games will be held just 50 miles from the north korean border. i will be traveling to pyeongchang in february to bring live reports. it's almost here. we've talked about it for so long. it's 4:33. today marks one year since the mgm national harbor opened. >> remember wh

>> good morning, melissa. we've been talking about the cold this morning. now we're talking about the snow heading our way. let's take a look as we go throughout our morning hours. we're going to start out nice and dry for now. there is a storm system brewing down south that has snow connected to it. look how far south the snow goes. louisiana, texas close to the gulf of mexico. that is some cold air going really far south. that shows you how cold or how far that air from canada has stretched. locally, we're on the dry side. the radar is trying to hint at a few flurries. most of us are nice and dry. what's going on is a change in the track of the storm. it's going to stay offshore but a little bit closer. there doesn't need to be much of a movement to increase the snow chances. for tomorrow, a weather alert. we expect the snow to be falling for part of the area and accumulating for part of the area. as you step outside, in the mid

story. leonardo da vinci's masterpiece was sold last month for a whopping $450 million. up. >> he's in his element now. >> president trump is heading to pensacola florida. it's going to be something polarizing alabama senate candidate roy moore. >> one day after allegations were -- trent franks and senator al franken. tracie potts is live on capitol hill with a look at why some are calling out what they say is the irony in all of this, tracie. >> franken said it was ironic that he was resigning while the president was going to campaign for roy moore who has nine women accusing him of sexual misconduct. but moore is bouncing back in the polls in alabama after an initial dip when those allegations started to come out. so the president today headed to pensacola, florida, to campaign for this alabama senate nominee. you heard that right. let's send you a map to show you why the president is going to florida to campaign for someone who will be elected in alabama. he's going to pensacola which i

until a special election can be held next year. a month after election day in virginia, four house of delegate races are still not resolved. two of them in our area. in stafford county, a recount in the 28th district race is set for december 21st. but voters also filed a lawsuit this week asking a judge to order a do-over on the election. that is because hundreds of voters were assigned to the wrong district. and there is a recount in the 40th district covering parts of fairfax and prince william counties. that recount starts next wednesday at the fairfax county courthouse. in northern virginia, they're calling it highway robbery. pushing back against $40 trips on 66 during rush hour. v-dot says the tolls are working and it's actually cheaper for drivers than predicted. the average round trip price on the first day was $14.50. that's actually lower than the $17

than actual shovels. >> in any case, aimee cho is riding around to tell us what we can expect to see throughout the day. hey aimee. >> hey eun and chris, good morning. you can expect to -- as you're commuting into work. v-dot will have trucks on road starting at 9:00 a.m. today. they'll put down a brine solution. it's important to get the freeze treating process started early. it keeps ice from forming on the roads. we're in the beltway and we've seen the roads treated. you can see if there's white lines on the roads. v-dot says even though they're pre treating the roads, you should be careful and watch out for slick spots in shaded areas and on bridges. if you see the snow trucks out today, be sure not to follow them too closely. the brine could make it hard for you to see. eun, chris. >> all right, aime,an

i'm sure this is not the only time it will happen this winter. saturday snowfall, a weather alert for that. your weekend is going to be pretty cold. even tomorrow with highs in the 30s and the areas being snowfall. right now at 34 gaithersburg. 37 in clinton. 39 degrees in the district. a cold start and this is what we're watching. this big storm system down to the south. it's eventually going to make its way offshore and be getting closer to us. we have snowfall near the gulf of mexico. that just shows you how far south that cold canadian air has traveled. when you get the perfect combination of cold air and precipitation, you can get snow anywhere. we have hints of flakes on the radar. here's the timing of it. through today, pretty quiet conditions. 6:00 p.m., a hint of that south and east. 6:00 a.m., tomorrow morning, look at the snow coverage across the area. again, we're on the edge. not everybody sees this. 11:00 a.m. tu

[ inaudible ] right now here is one of them. this is where megan mcgrath is for us this morning. southbound 95 at 234. dumfries. that's where you get pushed off. take a look at this crash shutting down the lanes. northbound is unaffected at this point. when you look at this map, you can see southbound 95 near triangle. lanes blocked because of the crash investigation. megan mcgrath, as i mentioned, out there on the scene. tell me what you're seeing from down there. >> reporter: well, melissa, i'll step out ut of the way. people are being told to get off on exit 152. that ramp there in dumfries area. that's as far as you can go southbound on 95. the accident itself is a little further down the line in the triangle area. but all lanes of 95 are closed. still pretty early. so while we are seeing a slowdown in the area, you're taking a live look at it right now. it's not
