[ inaudible ] right now here is one of them. this is where megan mcgrath is for us this morning. southbound 95 at 234. dumfries. that's where you get pushed off. take a look at this crash shutting down the lanes. northbound is unaffected at this point. when you look at this map, you can see southbound 95 near triangle. lanes blocked because of the crash investigation. megan mcgrath, as i mentioned, out there on the scene. tell me what you're seeing from down there. >> reporter: well, melissa, i'll step out ut of the way. people are being told to get off on exit 152. that ramp there in dumfries area. that's as far as you can go southbound on 95. the accident itself is a little further down the line in the triangle area. but all lanes of 95 are closed. still pretty early. so while we are seeing a slowdown in the area, you're taking a live look at it right now. it's not

not yet. of course, that's going to change as the morning wears on. if they don't clear this accident soon. we're trying to get some information about the timeline here. but for the moment, all lanes of 95 south are closed. they're going to be detoured in dumfries. as for the northbound lanes, they're moving at speeds. the express lanes are open as well. that doesn't seem to be affected. we'll have to wait and see whether we get any rubber necking delays on that side or not. we'll keep an eye on it. melissa, back to you. >> thanks, megan. we'll be checking with megan throughout the morning. here's the other closure. southbound bw parkway being pushed off. this is another crash investigation with all lanes shut down. northbound is open and unaffected this morning. taking a look at 270 from 70 down to the spur, you don't have any worries there. everything is looking quite good. same situation if you're headed northbound this morning on 270. no big problem there either. beltway, inner loop and outer loop rolling

six fires are burning across southern california. including a new one in san diego county. the lilac fire destroyed dozens of mobile homes in a retirement community. >> they started using local high schools as evacuation centers. they're filling up quickly as the flames get closer and closer towards people's homes. in all, about 500 buildings have been destroyed and 5700 firefighters are trying to get a handle on the flames. right now, the biggest challenge this morning, the strong dry winds that are basically fueling the fires. authorities will temporarily shut down parts of 95 in stafford county later this morning to begin searching for pamela butler's remains. the d.c. woman disappeared in 2009. news 4 was first to report butler's boyfriend, jose rodriguez cruz told investigators he buried her body in stafford county. virginia state police will close the garrisonville road

point to the 95 express lane starting at 10:00 a.m. this morning. cruz pled guilty to killing butler earlier this morning. hundreds gathered at the lincoln memorial to remember bijan ghaisar him. the family is looking for answers and demanding transparency throughout the investigation into that shooting. police say they followed ghaisar's suv after a hit-and-run accident. officers say they tried to stop him but they led him on a chase into fairfax county. he was shot three times in the head after a short chase. friends and family honored him at a vigil last night. >> my dearest bijan. dance with the angels. full of love for you always expressed that happiness. >> ghaisar's family says

unarmed. the fbi is now investigating this case. some really good news for those of you who work for the federal government or maybe friends and family who do. shutdown has been averted. congress struck a deal to prevent the government from shutting down this weekend. the agreement helps to buy some time for pretty challenging talks on everything from immigration to aid to the hurricane ravaged states in puerto rico. lawmakers passed a two-week spending bill and it's headed to president trump's desk where he's expected to sign it. we learned more about what forced arizona congressman to resign amid a ethics probe. made two female staffers feel uncomfortable after discussing his interest in finding a surrogate mother. he and his wife used a surrogate for the birth of their twins eight years ago. his resignation is the third announced this week. we'll have more on what al franken is

♪ singing and candles and prayers after a school shooting left two students dead in new mexico overnight. new mexico state police identified the students killed at casey marquez and francisco fernandez. community members gathered at a vigil to comfort one another and ask why this happened in their small community. the shooting started as the school day was beginning yesterday. aztec, new mexico, is near the colorado border. students recorded cell phone videos of them hiding in their classrooms as gunman moved through their school. so scary. the gunman died. but they're not saying how or if he was a student. a college in virginia at the center of a hazing investigation. rad ford university is looking into a disbanded cha

a new fire in san diego county brings the number of wildfires burning now to six. winds are still a major problem for the firefighters. you can even hear the gusts in some of this video. these fires have torched more than 140,000 acres. >> nbc's jinah kim live in ventura with more on the efforts to contain these fires. jinah, good morning. >> good morning, chris and eun. after the hurricane strength winds of yesterday, we expected the numbers to go up. boy, did they? we're up to six fires now versus the four we started with yesterday. we're at 500 homes and structures that have been damaged or destroyed. that's more than triple the number that we were talking about 24 hours ago. 23,000 home are still in danger by all six of these fires. if there's slightly good news, it's that we're back to a red flag warning versus the purple

virginia state police will close the garrisonville road access point to the 95 express lanes. that's going to start around 10:00 this morning. the federal government will remain open for at least the next two weeks. congress approved a two-week stopgap measure to avoid a shutdown. now headed to the president's desk and will buy time for talks about points such as immigration and hurricane aid. it's 5:35 now. now to a story only on news 4. it was a memorial to heal the community after a terrible murder nearly eight years ago. jayna murray has killed by her co-worker, brittany norwood. once the store reopened, they installed a stained glass memorial to honor the victim. lululemon is prepared to open up shop farther down bethesda row. the stained glass window is going to her family. >> it means a lot to us as

go farther south and east of the district. yes, weather alert tomorrow. snowfall, our first snowfall and the snow chances have been increasing because of the track of storm offshore has changed a little bit. all it takes is a small change to bring us snow on edge of the storm. i'm sure we'll be seeing this again through winter. temperatures right now, mid to upper 30s. there's the storm system to the south with the snow on the northern edge. we'll be getting that edge. we're dry but radar seems to get a flurry or so around luray. here's future weather. going through time, 6:00 p.m., we could start to see the weather moving south and east. this is south and east of charles town. we'll be watching for flurries by 6:00 p.m., our daytime highs today will be in the low 40s. we go through the overnight hours and we start to see that storm system get closer to us. our temperatures will be able to support that snow falling. we'll be right
