secondary roads, parking lots, if you're headed out shopping, those definitely could be icy, so watch your footing as you head out, but man, this system was huge, from texas all the way up through the east coast. bob ryan who used to be the chief meteorologist here, some of his family still lives in the houston area and he was talking about his grandsons already making a little snowman. so, i'm sure kids from houston all the way up to atlanta got their fair share of snow, and so did we around here. we picked up 2 inches last night at reagan national airport. it's a good looking morning. we've got these clouds stuck in place, 35 degrees, so conditions are improving on the roadways, but again, still be careful when you head outside. we do have some windy conditions today. we do have some more snow on the way. we'll talk about that and sort it all out, coming up. >> all right, lauryn, thank you very much. news4 traveled down to st. mary's county, where snow totals reached 3 1/2 inches. yep, and our cr

they stopped by the baymart convenience store and deli, and overall, people there said they were excited about the snow. >> we take it as it comes. we enjoy the weather. >> i haven't seen snow in 12 years. >> tell you, this time we took the brunt of it, from what i hear, down on this end. i don't know, i haven't been up the road yet to see what's up there. >> we drove up the road for him, and you can see the pavement was pretty clear. this storm was more of a decorative event than a dangerous event, at least in this case. >> that's certainly good news for a lot of people, but it wasn't the case for some drivers in parts of virginia. let's take a live look at i-95 northbound at springfield. you can still see some of the snow off to the side there. virginia state police say that they responded to more than 200 crashes yesterday, and many people are waking up without power. we talked with dominion energy overnight and continue to talk to them today. they tell us more than 3,500 customers are still without power in northern virginia, while more than 13,000 across the state still without electricity.

fire gutted her home. take a look at this here. about 2:30 this morning, county fire crews were on the scene taking on this call here. they even had to call in the charles county fire department to help them assist. they had their ladders and their lines out here for some time trying to get this raging fire under control. we now know the damage done here is about $200,000, from the top of the home to the lower level. the home is gutted. the roof is gone in parts as well. again, the cause here identified as a malfunctioning chimney. and then, fire crews saying they have traced it to one missing brick that allowed that fire to travel the way it has. they also say as well a fire inspection of that chimney could have prevented this and of course stopped all of that there. live, justin finch, news4. back to you in the studio. >> thank you, justin. tough story there as that family tries to get the pieces back together. thanks, justin.

time right now is 10:05. we are talking about the ft. washington home that was obviously extremely damaged there. >> before christmas, very devastating. and you know, it's a perfect opportunity to remind folks, remember, candles, remember things like space heaters, be very cautious of that this time of year, because as we know, those are key things that can contribute to fires. >> absolutely. want to talk about some more tough moments here. we were talking about fallen heroes in our area. black ribbons, bunting draping the trucks that a fallen hero and his friend were a part of. this was a tough story about i-270 and two people who were killed on that road. a veteran agent with the fbi and a decorated member of maryland's fire marshal office both killed on i-270 friday. [ sirens ] those were the sirens there that you heard from the procession that traveled in

police and firefighters escorted the body of lieutenant sander cohen as people saluted along the road. cohen grew up in rockville. he had been volunteering as a firefighter since he was 16 years old. and on friday night, he stopped to help fbi agent carlos wolff, who had crashed on i-270. both men were hit by a car as they waited for help on the side of the road. cohen's colleagues, they're still trying to deal with this loss. >> i think it's really just his smile and his demeanor. everybody here liked him. he brought a sense of comradery. >> he was very dedicated. he worked a demanding job, long days, and he would still come here and volunteer in his community. >> yeah, and meanwhile, the fbi is also mourning the loss of one of its own. yesterday it sent out a tweet offering condolences to the friends, families, and colleagues of special agent wolff. they say that that veteran agent worked out of fbi headquarters in northwest d.c. three other people were hurt during those crashes

to be okay. maryland state police are still working to try to figure out the cause of all those accidents. and a five-acre brush fire broke out in the hills of monrovia, california, saturday night. folks in that state just can't seem to catch a break. all homes on three streets had to be evacuated. the fire was first reported at around 8:00 last night. thankfully, the fire has been contained. an evacuation shelter has opened up for the residents who were displaced. time right now is 10:08. voters in alabama may be getting a call from president trump. a white house official has confirmed to nbc news that the president recorded a last-minute robocall for gop senate candidate roy moore. now, that official says the call was recorded yesterday afternoon. this comes one day after president trump got on a stage and urged people to vote for moore. his support comes even as the candidate faces multiple accusations of sexual misconduct. he has largely denied all of those accusations. moore's going to face off against democrat doug jones on tuesday in that s

got the guy to break it down, moderator of "meet the press," chuck todd. all right, you were in alabama this past week. interesting times down there with the roy moore candidacy going on. you know, the funny thing is i'm not sure if people are really paying attention to his competitor and what's going on there. >> what's fascinating is that, okay, everybody knows about the race, everybody -- nobody wants to talk about it. i understood it when the camera was on that nobody wants to talk about it, but i turn the cameras off, it's like everybody's whispering, like they're afraid of whatever they express, they're going to offend a friend. >> yeah. >> okay? whether they express voting for a democrat, that will offend a friend, or i'm voting for moore, that will offend a friend. i came away seeing that the undecided republican voters in this race who have never voted for a democrat before and aren't this time, what they're deciding between is whether to vote or not, whether to show up to the polls. >> that's interesting. >> and that is, they're disturbed by the charges and, you know,

of anything that makes them feel as if, well, maybe they won't be true, that might be enough for them to go to the polls, and that whole with the gloria allred client where she sort of had part of her story change, i talked to plenty of people down there, that might be enough to tip the scale. if roy moore wins by a point or two, gloria allred may be to blame, believe it or not. >> so obviously, democrats are banking on people not showing up. >> yeah, one of the unusual ways -- democrats usually want high turnout. normally, they think high turnout benefits them. this is a unique case. this is a deep red state, very conservative voters. they need a low turnout in order to pull this off. >> got you. you're also going to be talking about the russia investigation coming up on the show. quickly tell us who you have on the show today. >> we've got tim scott, republican from south carolina, bernie sanders, of course. i think people have heard of him. >> yeah. >> once or twice. >> not technically a democrat, but he kind of is. the most popular democrat who's not registered with the party. a

not only that, but we're going to have the winds. winds are gusting up to 25, 30 miles an hour. they will settle down around 5:00 tonight. but again, they're starting to increase right now. tonight and tomorrow, no problems with the wind. now, we don't have a lot of problems out there with any precipitation. no snow coming down, but we could see a few flurries. in fact, we're seeing a little bit in the eastern panhandle of west virginia, all lake-effect snow that is headed our way. we will not see any additional accumulation, just a few flurries flying around. otherwise, we'll have more sunshine later this afternoon as the temperature gets to about 40 degrees. tomorrow you start off with the light wind, temperatures in the low 40s once again tomorrow. drying tomorrow and an increase in cloud cover tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow night. low 40s tomorrow. now, we got a little system coming our way for tuesday morning. yaeferd, look at that, overnight monday into tuesday, we could have some snow, could have some sleet, could have some rain, but that will be out of here by the commute on tuesday. however, there could be some delays. temperatures mid-40s on tuesday, but again, look at this change. wednesday our n
