deputy state fire marshal sander cohen pulled over to help wolff and they were both struck by another car. cohen started volunteering at 16 years old for the fire department. >> he loved his friends. we have a very tight group of young people his age that joined at the same time. a generation of millennials. he loved them and they loved him. as did i and every other officer or member here at the fire service. >> the family of agent wolff released this statement, which said in part, "our carlos was an amazing father, husband, uncle and brother who made us all very proud. he was always so helpful and giving. not just to his friends but to strangers too. our hearts are broken." so far no one has been charged in this case. now to new video this morning showing the response to an apartment fire in d.c.'s logan circle. residents were forced into the cold last night

accidental fire started near a gas fireplace. this was near r and 13th streets. no one was injured. people are without a home. now an update on a water main break in the district that caused road closures. this is along south dakota avenue from randolph street to 18th street in northeast d.c. a few dozen homes were impacted here. the work is complete and the road has reopened. williams has got the angle. he's gone. touchdown chargers. >> redskins are officially out of playoff contention. the team traveled to the west coast and was beat by the los angeles chargers yesterday. all right. the chargers came out early playing energized football and never let up their lead. >> news 4 sports sherri

take a look at what we have so far. this is happening basically in a railway tunnel under the alps. it's supposed to link austria with italy. the tunnel boring machine caught fire with about 50 workers in that tunnel. 18 of them were unable to be contacted. they have supposedly taken shelter in a container inside that tunnel. we've just learned the blaze itself has actually been extinguished. we'll keep an eye on this story and bring you the latest as we learn more about the many people trapped inside that tunnel. chris, thank you. it's 4:46. today trump campaign manager paul manafort will be back in court. he could be in hot water with a federal judge. in a new court filing, the former campaign manager heavily edited an op-ed defending his work in ukraine. that piece appeared in ayu craini

last week. because of that, the former trump presidential campaign chair violated a judge's gag order and should not be released from house arrest. manafort's attorneys argue it's part of his first amendment rights to defend himself and his reputation. as alabama voters prepare to choose a new senator, they're getting a call from president trump. >> robo calls went out this weekend with the president urging voters to pick roy moore. >> this is president donald trump and i need alabama to go vote for roy moore. it is so important. >> we know moore has been accused of acting inappropriately with teenage girls. >> tracie potts is live on capitol hill with more on the is new interview where moore denies all the allegations. tracie? >> hey, eun and aaron. yeah. that interview was on a program called the voice of politics. moore spent a lot of time talking about his conservative

governor's website also says he will make an education budget announcement. this morning, plans for a new homeless shelter in the columbia heights section of d.c. mayor muriel bowser announced it will be along 14th street. now, our news partner, wtop reports it will have enough states for 35 short term apartment-style units and 15 long-term units. and provide units for low income seniors. the work expected to be completed by spring of 2020. sometimes cleaning out your chip any is one of the last things you think about. it would probably have saved a home in prince george's county. nobody was hurt here. investigators say a missing brick in the chimney allowed the fire to spread. a yearly chimney inspection would have likely prevented this fire. >> if you have nif type of gaps or cracks inside the

the fire could escape and become a house fire. this type of situation could occ occur. >> a legal setback for the catholic church's efforts to put christmas ads on the side of metrobuss. the archdiocese of washington wanted to place -- the church filed an emergency injunction that would have required them to put the ads up. the metro has a policy of not showing ads by religious or political groups. the archdiocese says the policy violates its right to free speech. if you ride the circulator bus, you may be in for a surprise. the winter wonder bus will be making a debut. this is a fegs special holiday-themed bus making rounds on the d.c. circulator route. paying the fare of $1 on the spruced up
