we start with that attempted attack in the heart of new york city. multiple officials confirm to nbc news that this photo is the suspect, akayed ullah. during a press conference about an hour ago we learned three people were just trying to take the subway this morning now have life-threatening injuries. the suspect is seriously injured, as well. officials say he had a low-tech device strapped to his body with velcro and zip ties. >> the device went off inside of a subway terminal just after 7:00 this morning. mayor bill de blasio had a strong message. >> when we hear of an attack on the subway it's incredibly unsettling and let's be also clear this was an attempted terrorist attack. thank god that he did not

it is a tender time on that campus. you may recall last month they lost another student and over the weekend on social media news began to break about navid and that was confirmed in an e-mail just last night and on his campus he's being remembered as a very young and talented artist. >> a somber monday morning at walt whitman high school, students and staff now well aware navid sepehri won't walk through doors anymore. sad news confirmed in the principal schoolwide e-mail. montgomery county police say the 17-year-old singer went missing saturday and was found dead sunday in cold, snow-covered woods on the 6500 block of laverock lane near the banecburn swim house. >> when he was last seen. because it is a death investigation we can't confirm too many of those details and certainly those are all aspects

if you're familiar with the area you'll know the house is less than two miles from one of the area's most celebrated restaurant. the restaurant at patamac farm. authorities continue to investigate. >> reporter: investigators out here on the scene of this fire that has been a fatal fire in loudoun county and what they're trying to do is put the pieces together to figure out exactly how it all started. you can see the structure of the home is intact, but the inside completely gutted. this was a fatal fire, and what we are hearing from people here on the scene is that this initial call came in last night about 8:20, and it was a life alert call meaning that someone had pressed the button that got in touch with 911 officials who then got in touch with fire officials here to come to the scene, and unfortunately, we can confirm this has turned fatal. this is a fatal fire in this area. take a look over here. you can see that fire trucks and rescue personnel are out here on the scene trying to figure out

they'll go through the areas to see how the fire actually started, but a deadly scene here in lovettsville. this is a rural area in loudoun county and not far from point of rock, but an unfortunate situation here as this charred-out house has turned into a fatal fire. back to you. cleaning your chimney may be one of the last things you think about during the holiday season, but it probably would have saved the home in prince georges county. flames ripped through this home. no one was hurt there, but authorities say a missing brick in the chimney aloud the fire to spread. the fire did $200,000 in damage. now to the weather. it looks like the rest of the weekend snow will be gone by the end of the day and seeing nice sunshine out there this morning. >> is that sun going to warm us up any? >> it will warm us up more than it did yesterday. here is a live look outside right now. we have the sunin

this morning saudi arabia announced that movie theaters will now be allowed in that country for the first time in more than 30 years. movie theaters were shut down in the 1980s during a period of ultra conservatism, but since the crowning of prince muhammad bin salman the young prince has been pushing for greater social changes like allowing women to drive. the new theaters are expected to open in march. also a big morning in hollywood. >> yes. nominations for the 75th golden globes were just announced. nbc'sar
