season with just two weeks to go until christmas. >> announcer: ndour at 4:00 begins with breaking news. >> and first at 4:00, new video shows the moment a pipe bomb went off at one of the busiest subway stops of the world in a tunnel near times square. new york's governor called it one of his worst nightmares and luckily he said it didn't end the way it could have. we're monitoring that situation live from here at the live desk. i'm leon harris. >> and i'm wendy rieger sitting in for pat lawson muse. let's get you caught up on what we know right now. the suspect akayed ullah had the pipe bomb strapped to his body when it detonated just after 7:00 this morning. he came to the u.s. from bangladesh in 2011. he is currently talking to authorities in the hospital. >> when the pipe bomb did go off, it didn't appear to fully explode. fire officials say four people were injured. good news there, though. they are expected to be okay. >> our coverage begins with edward lawrence who is liv

edward? >> reporter: leon and wendy, the explosion happened basically in the tunnels underneath where i am underneath the port authority. right now authorities are backtracking the suspect's last couple of days to see if he had help this this or acted by himself. chaos and confusion for morning commute in new york city. >> boom, boom! and then i just ran upstairs. >> reporter: security video shows a pipe bomb exploding inside the port authority bus terminal. >> it was a bomb because i know i seen movies. this wasn't movie, this was reality. >> people scattering all over the place. >> reporter: three people were injured as well as the suspected bomber. this picture posted on twitter shows the man who police say tried to blow himself up and injure others in a failed attempted suicide bombing. >> the device was based on a pipe bomb. it was affixed to his person with

zip ties. >> he had burns and wounds to his body. >> reporter: his name is akayed ullah, 27, in the united states for the past seven years with roots back to bangladesh. investigators announced searching his home in brooklyn looking for answers. nbc news has learned he told investigators he planned the attack in the name of isis, and was angry over muslims being killed around the world. >> i'm scared. >> reporter: more than 230,000 people travel through the bus terminal each day. it's now become the latest crime scene for what the mayor calls an attempted terrorist attack in a city that is seeing more than its fair share. and nbc news has learned that the suspected bomber in this came into this country on a family visa. he was also a former cab driver from 2012 to 2015. reporting live in new york, edward lawrence, now back to you, leon. >> all right, thank you, edward. wendy? >> well, three women accusing es

the president receives the same consumer report scrutiny as other high profile men. the women appeared on megyn kelly today and later at a press conference in new york city. >> then he didn't say, oh, by the way -- or i didn't go eke or help or whatever. it was just the silent groping going on. and i do remember at one point out of my side eye thinking, the guy sitting across the aisle, why doesn't he come to my defense, where is the steward he is, somebody? >> moving forward these women are asking congress to investigate these allegations. they say this should not be a partisan issue. >> i think also a nonpartisan investigation is very important, not, you know, not just for him, but for anybody that has allegations against them. this isn't a partisan issue. this is how women are treated every

>> in all, 16 women have accused president trump of misconduct. the white house released a statement saying, in part, quote, these false claims totally disputed in most cases by eyewitness accounts were addressed at length during last year's campaign and the american people voiced their judgment by delivering a decisive victory. the stakes are so high in the alabama senate race that both president trump and former president obama are weighing in. >> that's right. both parties trying to make sure that their voters turn up at the polls tomorrow. the special election has widespread implications on president trump's political agenda and the 2018 midterm elections. obama and former vice-president joe biden issued robocalls on behalf of democrat doug jones. and president trump was making robocalls on behalf of roy moore even though moore has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. we are closely monitoring the alabama senate race and the

accusations against president trump. in about 25 minutes you'll be hearing more from the women who claimed the president went too far with them. and then later this hour we'll take you live to alabama. we'll get a look at the polls there on the eve of that major race. and as always, get updates on all the big stories at any time on the nbc washington app. >> famed chef mario batali stepping down from his daily operations at the restaurant empire of his because of allegations of sexual misconduct against him. four women have come forward with allegations that cover about 20 years. one of the complaints was in october. batali was reprimanded and required to attend training. he is also stepping away from his show "the chew" during this investigation. now to a tragic loss in montgomery county. a 17-year-old boy found dead in the woods. >> this afternoon new details about the moments before officers found his body. >> we have learned that

navid surpari may have attended a party saturday night, suspected of under aged drinking. >> pat collins is in bethesda working the story for us. what is the latest est? >> reporter: leon, behind me is the swim club. across the parking lot here, and down in the woods is where they found the body. the sudden loss of this young man has brought a great sense of sorrow to t sorrow to the walt whit man community. friends and classmates gathered at the scene of his death today to mourn his loss. they took candles and shaped them into the letters of his name. they spread flowers nearby in his honor. navid was 17 years old, a senior at walt whitman high school. he was found dead in a wooded area near the pool last night. but he was last seen alive tu

a party on elgin road. police were called to break up that party. this is what it sounded like on the police radio. >> the caller is anonymous. there is an under age drinking party at this address. it is loud. there is a bonfire in the backyard. >> couple kids ran off. >> if you see any vehicles stop them. they may possibly be drunk. >> reporter: navid was one of the teenagers who left on foot. sources say some of his friends were concerned about his welfare, that they offered to call him an uber, but he reportedly said, no, i've got this. then he disappeared. that was around 11:00 p.m. saturday night. he wasn't reported missing to police until after 12:00 p.m. sunday afternoon. his body discovered around night fall. so, why did it take 12 hours to

and what is the cause of death? there is more to be known here. i'll be back at 5:00 with more. wendy? >> pat collins. thank you, pat. a 911 call for help last night from a loudoun county man whose home was on fire and he could not escape. and when fire fighters arrived at the home in level itsville, flames were shooting out of the house, the roof several floors had collapsed making their entry difficult and dangerous. and sadly, when they did get inside and to the man, he was dead. we are working to find out the name of the man as investigators are working to determine what started that deadly fire. turning now to storm team4, dramatic drop heading our way. doug is in the storm center. we have a weather alert day tomorrow. >> weather alert tomorrow, wednesday, really wendy, we could see weather alert on friday, too. that's the kind of syst

numerous systems the next couple of days. three different stornlz, each will bring us something different. out there now, not a bad way to start off the workweek. temperature 45 degrees in the city, 39 degrees back towards hagerstown. we have some cold air around the region, but it's not bad for this time of year. this is kind of what you expect around our region. now, as we look towards what's going to be happening, we're looking at some clouds coming in, but look at this storm here. nice little spin to the atmosphere. this one not going to bring us any snow chances really. but it is going to bring those cold temperatures, and i mean cold. the coldest temperatures by far turning much colder, wind chills will be in the teens. like tomorrow night and, yes, we're talking more snow chances. i'll show you which days have the best chance for seeing some snow, some of which could affect us in a big way. we'll talk more about that. see you back here in ten minutes. >> you got it, doug. folks have a chance of seeing fire in california still. right now out of control fires have thousands of families on the run. they have spread into california

wildfires has been burning now for more than a week, and the largest of the group, the thomas fire which you have been hearing about, is now the 5th biggest fire in state history. some 9,000 fire fighters are working to try to contain this and put it out. the thomas fire is about 15% contained at this point. >> we have learned this disaster is hitting home for ellen degeneres. wild fierds are threatening her house in the montecito area. that is one of the zones under immediate evacuation order right now. ellen tweeted she had to evacuate her pets this morning. she said she's proud to be part of a community that is checking in on each other and stepping up to help out where needed. she is also sending out her love and gratitude to first responders. >> and first at 4:00, another attempted sexual assault. a woman picked up a ride from a vehicle for hire at 400 east capitol street in southeast.

soon be able to enlist in the military once again. that runs directly counter to an order from president trump. you remember he banned the service of transgender people back in july. two federal courts have already ruled against that ban. today's announcement may reflect growing legal pressure. the pentagon says enlistment of transgender recruits will start january 1st. >> i'm sure some of you saw this of the online video of the boy describing how he was bullied. >> uh-huh, now hollywood and sports stars are rushing to his rescue. >> why do they take innocent people and -- >> tommy mcfly is here with keaton jones' incredible day. >> absolutely wild. in case you missed it earlier this morning, we have this little boy. he is buzzing all around facebook because the young man is in tennessee. he got into the car and told his mom about th

has sunlight on it, that's probably gone. nothing on the radar in our immediate area, but i'm going to show you what's happening back to the west. we've got a really strong storm, a very potent storm coming through. there is not a lot of moisture with it. this is not going to be one that brings us any snow. but what it is going to do is come to our region early tomorrow morning, could actually provide a few sprinkles, rain, that would be. and then what comes behind it is some extreme cold. 7:00 a.m., here it is right here, the clouds coming on through here. notice the snow back towards the west. they're going to pickup a lot, 6 to 12 inches. winter weather advisory for wisp toward snow shoe and west virginia. great for the ski resorts. for us this is just going to be a cold weather maker. take a look at the temperatures. you look at this and go that's not too bad. early, 48 degrees at noon. yeah, not too bad. we're going to warm nicely. but then the wind kicks up, 45 by 4:00, chilly, by 7:00, 7:00, the wind will be between 15 and 20 degrees. as temperatures zrop into the

too. tomorrow afternoon is going to be a much different afternoon than during the day. 2:00 in the afternoon, future like temperatures, 49 manassas, 42 in d.c., not bad. but notice by 7:00, 15 d.c., 8 in martinsburg, 13 in culpepper, some extreme cold tomorrow night right on into the day on wednesday. wednesday morning 8:00 a.m., notice how many of you are in the single digits here. 7 in leesburg, 8 in manassas, 10 in washington. the coldest air so far this season for sure, and, yes, we're going to see that all the way through the day on wednesday. now, how about this. tuesday weather alert, we're calling it a weather alert because of the impending cold. wednesday extremely cold, wind chills all day in the teens. a good chance for some snow wednesday night into early thursday morning. this is the one to watch. it's not going to be a lot of snow but the timing could pose prolz z problems. friday another chance for some snow. that could bring some accumulated snow in parts of the area. it won't be much,t

hill with more. blayne? >> reporter: well, leon, the white house has repeatedly denied all of these allegations and said today that the american people made their thoughts on this matter clear last november when they elected donald trump president. but the women speaking out today say that they are speaking again because this time they want congress to act. three women doubling down on their claims of sexual misconduct by president trump, telling their stories at a news conference and on megyn kelly today. >> he held onto my hand and he kept kissing me. >> reporter: they are among at least 16 women who have accused the president of sexual misconduct. >> he groped me. he absolutely groped me. >> reporter: their stories compiled in a widely shared video by a self-described social justice film maker. the women say the me too movement inspired them to speak out again, now calling on congress to investigate. >> it's important enough t

the question, do you think congress should investigate president trump for alleged sexual harassment? so far a lot of you are saying yes. overwhelmingly, about 85% or so. cast your vote now on the nbc washington facebook page. let us know what you think. wendy? >> flags in maryland at half staff today to remember two fallen heroes who were killed in rockville. fbi special agent carlos wolf seen here with his family. he crashed his cara long i-270 just this friday night. deputy state fire marshal sanders cohen pulled over to help wolf, and that's when they were both struck by another car. cohen was also a volunteer fire fighter in rockville. he started volunteering when he was just 16. governor larry hogan said both men showed selfless dedication to the community. >> for months now, the news4 i-team has been investigating the district's skyrocketing water fees,

uncovered a new problem. this one affecting only certain neighborhoods. >> news4's investigative reporter jody fleischer has more on why only some have to pay and why those neighbors say that's so unfair. >> reporter: we found neighborhoods with private roads and sidewalks are being charged for the fee, but public roads and sidewalks are not. it's costing some homeowners hundreds of dollars a month while everyone else doesn't have to pay. >> i think that it's unfair. i think that's unfair. >> reporter: ryland harris lives in this town house complex in north east and knew his homeowner's association had to pay for things like flowers and potholes on their private roads, but this year d.c. build the hoa $40,000 in clean rivers fees even though it has no water service. >> that was flabbergasted. >> reporter: the money is going toward a massive government tunnel project, but the i-team found the government gets a break on what it has to pay. public roads sidewalks and a
