car. another car hit and killed both member. cohen was also a volunteer firefighter in rockville. developing this morning, for the second time in two months, new york is recovering from a terror attack. this was a scenario officials had long feared. a suicide attacker detonated a bomb at rush hour in the city's subway system. take a look at surveillance video. 22-year-old akayed ullah detonated the device strapped to his body. it happened at the busy port authority bus terminal. commuters scattered for cover. >> everybody just ran to the closest exit. >> it was a big explosion. the impact pushed everybody around. >> three people, including the suspect were hurt here, he's in serious condition. the suspect is from bangladesh. he told police that he carried out the attack in the name of isis. alabama voters will decide who takes the senate seat in a race the entire country is watching closely. >>ey

now breaking news at 5:12. eun, aaron. we're getting word of a deadly explosion at a natural gas plant in austria. we just got these images in the newsroom. take a look at the smoke. there are reports that one person has been killed. 18 others injured. i've actually seen pictures online of cars melted in the parking lot from the heat. authorities say the plant is near austria's border with slovak yachlt i slovakia. no word on what caused the blast. back to you, aaron. chris, thank you. as we mentioned at the top of the hour, a shooting at a d.c. metro station has a lot of riders concerned about their safety. >> for more on that, adam tuss is live at the minnesota avenue metro station. adam, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. that shooting happened around 8:00 last night. take a look. right here on the platform at

minnesota avenue. this has a lot of people in the area wondering what was going on. take a look. we have video of the suspect or a picture of the suspect, the transit police are on the lookout for here. i have to tell you, minnesota avenue has kind of a distinct reputation here. this was the highest crime metro station in all of 2016. that is something that transit police are obviously keeping a close eye on. but in terms of an enforcement effort and how transit police are actually trying to keep the system safe, there are things that they've been doing. they have been putting officers in high visibility uniforms. pretty much bright fluorescent yellow uniforms. they've had a crackdown which has led to more arrests. people recovering guns -- monitoring that happening at metro stations. metro is one of the most wired in the country. as the search for the suspects continues, be

majority in the senate. obviously, if doug jones wins the race, it will be tougher for him and republicans to push through their agenda in the upcoming year. in any other year with any other candidate, republican candidate, this would be almost a gimme for the republicans. but because of those allegations against roy moore, you know, now this appears to be a pretty tight race. alabama hasn't sent a democrat to the senate in 25 years. so it all comes down to turnout. yesterday, both candidates held appearances. roy moore has been under the radar. only holding one appearance in the last seven days. doug jones has been crisscrossing the state over the last three days. polls are all over the map, some say roy moore has a ten-point lead. others say doug jones does. it comes down to today. we'll see who shows up and what ua

>> chris pollone live in montgomery, alabama. chris, thank you. this morning, famous chef mario batali is admitting some of the sexual misconduct allegations against him are true. yesterday he announced he was stepping away from his restaurant empire and abc's "the chew" after four women came forward accusing him of inappropriate contact over 20 years. in a statement, he said much of the behavior does in fact match up with -- he prepared the final state dinner of the obama administration. this morning, we're taking a closer look at the mental health of teenagers. 20% of teens are suffering from a mental health condition. dr. harold cop wits once the children mine institute. he says 60% of teens with depression and 80% with anxiety do not get treatment. he says

monday night's shooting at the minnesota avenue metro station. one man was shot in the arm around 8:00 last night on the station's platform. he is expected to be okay. >> today the eyes of a nation will be on alabama as voters in that state choose their next senator. last night republican roy moore and democrat roy jones both held last minute campaign events. moore has been accused of acting inappropriately with teenage girls. he denies the allegations. polls open at 7:00 a.m. president trump is using an attempted suicide bombing in new york to push for his travel ban. yesterday a man attempted to detonate a suicide vest in the subway system. now both the president and attorney general jeff sessions want to stop the kind of visas they say the suspect used to enter the country. tracie potts will explain what kind of visa is embroiled in this controversy. multiple calls.

inside. >> you heard the dispatch call made sunday night. loudoun county firefighters could not rescue the person trapped inside the rural home. >> now, investigators are working to figure out what sparked the flames. right now, fire crews spending the day combing through what's left of the home in lovettsville. the inside of the home was gutted by the fire. the name of the person who died has not been released. no word on what caused the fire either. working for you heads up. check your smoke detectors. we spent the day with prince george's county firefighters. they installed new smoke detectors for free. maryland law, new one takes effect january 1st. it requires a smoke alarm to have a built-in battery that lasts ten years. a big change from the 9-volt battery dee tech tors most

>> i don't want to be homeless. this is a big help. >> the new detectors must be installed on every level of your home. call 311 to have a prince george's county firefighter install a new one in your home. firefighters finally received good news as they tried to control the wildfires in southern california. it could be weeks, though, even months before the fire is out. chris lawrence is in the newsroom with more. >> the wind whipping those flames across neighborhoods has turned and it's pushing the fire away from some of the communities in danger. it's also blowing some of the smoke out of the area allowing firefighters to actually see what's in front of them. that will help the aircraft which can't maneuver through the canyons filled with smoke. there's no rain in the forecast. that's what they really need. the fires have destroyed more than a thousand buildings, people under mandatory evacuation orders.
