park. chopper 4 over this problem this morning. southbound, 95 at powder mill road. already a three-mile backup. two vehicles here are overturned. they are obviously quickly trying to get this out of the way, cleared up so that folks can continue their route here. only going about 23 miles per hour. brad freitas is up above right now. tell us what's going on and perhaps an alternate. >> melissa, you're right. a team effort between maryland state highway administration and local towing companies. both of these vehicles were overturned about ten minutes ago when we first referred to this breaking news. the delays are extensive as i scroll over here. the headlights start at the icc. which may be a good option if you're headed toward the rockville area, montgomery county. the bw parkway as well if you're headed towards the beltway at this hour.

temperatures are at or below freezing. everybody pretty much feels at or below freezing. just not as brutally cold. a nice change for the weekend is straight ahead. >> thank you, sheena. we are getting word of new weather-related school delays and closings. meagan fitzgerald is following the latest from the live desk. >> just coming into the newsroom, we're getting an update that a lot of kids will be excited about this. here's what we know. several districts will be opening two hours late. berkeley county public schools, morgan county, mineral and hampshire county will open two hours late because of snow. they can make for a potentially dangerous commute. berkeley county, morgan, hampshire schools on a two-hour delay this morning. rockville pike is back open after a fatal accident inin

this happened near the rockville metro station. a man was hit in the crosswalk by a vehicle. the driver stayed on the scene. >> it's 6:03 now. today the families of two fallen heroes will say their final goodbyes. >> sander cohen and carlos wolff were killed last week on i-270. megan mcgrath is live where cohen's funeral will be held today. megan, what can you tell us about it? >> reporter: certainly a sad and solemn day as loved ones come to the funerals. this was a tragic accident that killed two men who dedicated their lives and careers for protecting and helping others. later today, the family and friends will say a final farewell. lieutenant sander cohen was a deputy fire marshal in maryland. the governor will speak at his funeral later on this morning. cohen stopped on 270 last weekend to help a motorist who crashed. he was on the

he was not only a fire marshal. he worked at the rockville volunteer fire department. he began volunteering at 16 years old. the crash that cohen stopped for involved fbi special agent carlos wolff. wolff was standing with cohen on the side of the road. he was also struck and killed. wolff is survived by his wife and two children. his family is heartbroken but that he loved serving his country as part of the fbi. he was just 36 years old. both of the funerals are happening later today. here are the details. lieutenant cohen's funeral at 11:00 a.m. in rockville. special agent wolff's funeral is being held at the church of the redeemer. and that is in the gaithersburg area. a large turnout expected at both of these funerals as the law enforcement and firefighters communities come out to pay their

back to you. live in rockville. we should note, you might run into closures. montrose road between montrose parkway and east jefferson street will be open to local traffic only. the closure begins at 7:00 a.m. and it will last until early afternoon. the procession to the cemetery will begin around 12:30. this morning, the father of a montgomery county teen who died says he's angry. he claims montgomery county police did not do enough to find his son. 17-year-old navid sepehri's father sat down with our pat collins. sepehri says police waited hours before taking his missing person's report. he found navid's body in the woods sunday morning in a small pool of water. the teenager went missing after a party saturday night. his father says police did not take the case serious.

sitting in the shopping center drinking coffee. >> other officers were nearby in the woods who heard navid's father exclaim that he had found his son. >> police believe the teenager's death was an accident. but an official cause of death has not yet been determined. today a former massage envy therapist is expected to plead guilty in court. he's charged with improperly touching two women at the continually town location in northwest d.c. he's also being investigated in bowie and georgetown. one of the d.c. cases sparked a legal case against massage envy. one of the alleged victims is suing the company for $25 million. new this morning, we're hearing from pbs talk show host tavis smiley after he was suspended over allegations of misconduct. the network has now hired an outside law firm to

smiley after an independent investigation. smiley responded to the announcement to the suspension on twitter. i have never groped, inappropriately exposed myself or cursed any colleague in my 30-year career. >> while pbs did not specify the nature of the allegations, they released a statement that reads in part x "the inquiry uncovered multiple credible allegations of conduct that's inconsistent with the values and standards of pbs." smiley has been with the network since 2004. two house democrats want a sexual harassment investigation of president trump. joe crawley and jackie spire spent a letter to the office of government ethics asking for an -- against the president from at least 19 women. it says americans expect the president and other public officials to

behavior. later today, the federal communications commission will vote to repeal most of net neutrality rules. it means your internet provider could give certain treatment to certain content and charge you for more basic services. the rules were intended to keep the internet open and fair. the rules prevent the internet from speeding up or slowing down traffic in certain apps. i don't think it will be the end of the world immediately. they can't just go to somebody else for better service if they don't like the service they're getting now. >> the fcc is expected to pass the repeal 3-2 across party lines. net neutrality supporters say they will take their fight to court. the holidays are often full of joy and celebration, we know. but they're also a time for reflection for a lot of people. >> molette green is l

slick spots possibly on the roads this morning in northern maryland. here's a live look at the radar. we had snow showers pass through yesterday evening. this morning, we're seeing a few flakes falling in parts of frederick county. this was earlier in west virginia causing school delays this morning. if you're in the areas, know that anything falling will be sticking. the wakeup weather, you want the warm coat again. not as brutally cold throughout the day today. i'll show you the forecast coming up. thank you, sheena. we're following several school delays and closings this morning. allegheny county public schools in maryland is closed. berkeley county public schools, march gone county, mineral and hampshire county schools will open two hours late. those counties all in west virginia. >> slick roadways can make for a dangerous commute. berkeley, morgan, mineral, on a two-hour delay. check the nbc washington app for any changes that might happen.

the search is on for three men who police believe are responsible for at least seven burglaries in the past two weeks. >> in one case, they used a stolen church van as their get away vehicle. surveillance video captured the men pulling up to the stolen church van on the 8th street area. this happened at 5:00 in the morning last tuesday. they broke into the front glass door, stole clothes and then ran away. the van belongs to youngs memorial church of christ in southeast d.c. >> that the person will have some remorse about what they have done. >> the church van has been recovered. but the suspects are still out there. a trio of astronauts back on earth right now. meagan fitzgerald at the live desk with more. >> this is a cool story. the spacecraft was carrying three crew members from russia, the united states and italy. they landed in kazakhstan

very much still alive. mike wit mer is the man who puts this elaborate display on. his wife tolerates it. how did this get started and why do you keep doing this years after he passed away? >> he was sufficient a cool, i could not, not do it. we learned he was going to come home. i told his parents swing by my court and i wrote get well kevin in lights. they drove through. saw his name in lights. he said do you think mr. wit mer will put my name in lights every year. how could i not? a tradition as born. >> it's brought this close-knit hadley farms community in gaithersburg much closer together over the years. >> absolutely. everybody comes by. everybody enjoys the lights and i get a special thrill out of
