the man on the scooter died. the driver of the bmw ran off before being arrested. darcy spencer is live in rockville with new reaction from friends of the victim tonight. darcy? >> this is the intersection where it happened. the victim had gone out to get something to eat. he never made it home. he lived less than half a mile from the crash scene. we have a photo of the victim, ross redler. this is a photo from his facebook page. he was struck and killed while riding his moped around 11:15. police say the driver who hit him initially ran away but was caught a short time later. that driver mark andrade has been charged with driving under the influence. a woman said the victim was a loving and caring person. >> this man was like a father to you.

ohio. the planed ha jud just taken of before it crashed. one dog died, a second survived. federal investigators aren't sure what caused the plane to go down. we are learning new details about what happened moments before a little girl was shot in the district. according to the police report the toddler and another child were playing with a gun when it accidentally went off. this happened inside an apartment building in southeast. the bullet hit the little girl in the leg. she's expected to be okay. no word on how the children got the gun or if anybody will be charged in the case. we have breaking news. a massive power outage crippling flights out of atlanta. we are feeling it here at our local airports as well. nearly two dozen flights two and from atlanta have been cancelled at reagan national, dulles and marshall. take a look. passengers plunged into darkness at hartsfield. the lights went out around 1:

losing record is. 8-8, still in play. we'll have more later in sports. back to you. >> thank you. we'll see you then. all right. we go to fairfax county where a woman wants her car back and police want to catch a second robbery suspect after a wild crime spree. officers say two men stole several dozen phones at a verizon store on little river tu turnpike. officers spotted them as they drove off. a short chase ended when they crashed into another car and then into a creek bed. the driver of the car was not hurt. police arrested the driver of the getaway car, darrius berry but his passenger ran off stealing a woman's car nearby who was leaving work. that man and the car haven't been found. we have more breaking news for you tonight. cbs news is reporting that senator john mccain left a maryland hospital today and is headed to arizona to be home for the holidays. that

right now temperatures in the 40s across the area. low to mid 40s. 46 degrees in washington. 45 in leesburg and 42 degrees in annapol annapolis. sprinkles are falling. but it looks like we have a lot of rain out there. it's so dry that the rain is actually evaporating before it's hitting the ground in a lot of these instances. still, a few sprinkles are able to make it to the ground and patchy drizzle out there. this will be the case until midnight. we are not worried about icy patches with temperatures well above freezing. tomorrow morning when we are dry it will be chilly. 39 degrees at 7:00 a.m. if you are in the suburbs, cooler there with temperatures in the low 30s. throughout the day, a mix of clouds and sun. not as gray as it was this afternoon. 47 degrees for the lunch hour. if you want to step out and run an errand, the weather cooperates. tomorrow evening, 4:00 it's nice. 54 at that point. 7:00, we are at 43 degrees with more clouds moving in.

so the weather having a low impact on your day. at the bus stop, make sure the kids have on a jacket. they may not have it on when they come home. outdoor exercise, it's nice for december. comfortable in the afternoon hours. and after school activities, dry and crisp. so we are starting off the work week on a nice note. then i'm hopping ahead to the upcoming weekend for christmas weekend. here's what we know now. a chance of rain in the forecast on saturday. temperatures are pretty mild, around 50 degrees. on saturday you could be dealing with a little bit of rain. thankfully no snow for the travel plans. on sunday, it's looking dry and cool with temperatures in the 50s and plenty of clouds. then the forecast gets tricky. forecast for christmas is tricky, that is. it could go one of two ways. mild and mainly dry. when i say mild, temperatures in the 60s to near 70. or it could be cool with a chance for rain. something we'll continue to monitor. what am
