one person described it as pandemonium. >> you heard that. people yelling to find each other because they couldn't see. this impacted every aspect of how the airport works, computers didn't have flight information, restaurants closed. even the vending machines didn't work. georgia power says a fire in an underground electrical facility may have caused this outage. over the next few days the outage in atlanta will impact your holiday travel plans no matter where you're flying. >> airlines have o reschedule more than a thousand flights that were delayed or canceled yesterday. news 4's justin finch is live with update on the number of delays this morning. hey, justin. >> reporter: hey there, aaron. so far a smooth start to the monday morning travel season here at reagan. lines are moving at a pretty good clip.

that could be due in part to the cancellation that we're seeing of flights from atlanta to our area. also going in the area as well. take a look on the board. we're seeing so far five canceled flights out of reagan going to atlanta. only one leaving on time. that southwest flight at 6:10. we can tell you that 3 flights are due to arrive. they had to cancel some 300 flights so far. they're hoping to get back online in some way or form by the afternoon today. we did speak with a woman who found out sunday here at reagan that her flight was going to be canceled. of course, you can imagine she was not happy to hear that. it was all because of, as you mentioned, that power blackout in atlanta. >> i do have a dog that's boarded. it's going to be an extra day of cost with the boarding and extra day of cost with the parking. i had a doctor's appointment. that's going to be fun to try to reschedule. other than tha

to camp david. a top lawyer for his transition team accused a government agency of unlawfully turning over thousands of e-mails to special counsel robert mueller. this is part of the russia election meddling investigation. president trump says he does not plan to fire mueller. >> no, i'm not. no. what else? are you surprised? >> president trump cannot technically fire mueller. he could order for his dismis l dismissal. the only person who could fire mueller would be deputy u.s. attorney general rob rosenstein. he told the i-team that he's satisfied with the special counsel's work. republican senator john mccain is at home in arizona. the 81-year-old was recently treated for a viral infection at the national cancer institute in bethesda. doctors say he is responding positively to his treatment for brain cancer. senator mccain's daughter tweeted this on sunday. meghan thanked everyone for

expect to get a ticket in the mail. enforcement on the southbound side starts today. up until now, violators were getting warnings. this is the 7th red light camera in the city of fairfax. msnbc's chris matthews was accused of inappropriate behavior by a woman working on his show in 1999. the daily caller first reported matthews made inappropriate jokes and comments about a female employee who was an assistant producers. msnbc released a statement saying the matter was investigated at the time and matthews received a formal reprimand. the investigation found the comments were not a proposition. the woman received a payout to leave the company. the owner of the carolina panthers decided to sell the team after he was accused of sexual misconduct. sports illustrated says he made sexually explicit comments to women. four former employees received settle ams due to his

water main cleanup happening. what's the latest there? >> reporter: want you to take a look now and see for yourself. there are the workers here from wssc working on a 12-inch water main break here. they tell me just a few minutes ago, it's going to take about six or seven hours to get it all done. both eastbound lanes closed here at east-west highway and chillum manor road. now, cars in both directions are using one lane each westbound. there are like five work trucks here on the scene. we'll keep a close eye on things. not a problem for traffic because it's still very early in the morning rush. back to you guys inside. >> molette green for us in hyattsville. thank you. it's 5:15. the death of one of canada's richest men is being investigated by homicide detectives. >> billionaire barry sherman and his wife honey were found dead in a home they were trying to

coordination with russia. of the president's lawyer said some e-mails were obtained illegally and had private messages between attorney-client privilege or fell under attorney-client privilege. in a statement, mueller came out and said all of the e-mails were gotten by legal criminal process or the owner of the e-mails agreed to give them over. >> if president trump is on the verge of his first laej lay tiff victory with this tax bill this week, do republicans have the votes they need to pass the bill? >> it appears, eun, they do in the house at least. the senate is going to be a little bit of a different story. it's going to be very close. senator john mccain going back to arizona for treatment. he is not going to be able to vote, likely. although the president says he would come back if they need him. that leaves 51 republicans in the senate. senator thad corcoran having -- if he misses another vote, that's only 50/50 which the vice president would make the deciding vote.

republicans seem to have gotten the rest of them on board. it could be the vice president that casts the deciding vote here. >> edward lawrence on the hill this morning. thanks. vladimir putin is saying thanks to president trump. he called him yesterday to thank the president for a cia tip that helped to foil bombings in st. petersburg. russia was able to track down and arrest the suspect. russia will continue to give the u.s. information it might get on potential terror threats here at home. we're learning more details about a u.s. soldier's death in niger. it happened after an ambush. sergeant la david johnson and throw others soldiers died in october. sergeant johnson's body was not recovered until two days later. there were media reports that he was shot at close range or had been taken prisoner. now the a.p. is reported he was not company toured alive but was killed by enemy rifle and machine gunfire.

nominee sarah palin's son has been arraigned on charges. he's charged with nen burglary, assault and causing property damage. the incident happened on saturday. no details on what exactly happened. he was arrested in january of 2016 on domestic violence partners on his girlfriend. at the time, sarah palin said her son suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. a woman who was killed by her boyfriend, her parents are trying to help other women. mark and glenn wallen collected donations for the women's shelter. in september, their daughter laura was found murdered in damasc damascus. her boyfriend is charged in her death. >> if we can channel our grief into something positive. the women's shelter of montgomery county, this is something that's worthwhile and worth doing. >> just sort of eases the pain for us to do something positive.

gaithersburg at 37 degrees. 37 in clinton. bus stop forecast, the low 40s 7:00 and 8:00. maybe layers. by 3:00 p.m., we're looking at the mid 50s. looking pretty good out there. wait until you see tomorrow. it is monday. the commute starts all over again. hopefully it's looking good out there, melissa. good morning. >> good morning. have this problem hanging around in hyattsville. chopper 4 over east-west highway near riggs road. you can see them dealing with this problem. they say it may not be totally wrapped up and fixed until sometime this afternoon. so right now, between chillum manor and riggs road we have the eastbound lanes blocked. one westbound lane is dealing with the two-way traffic there. 270 southbound out of -- 30 miles per hour there. inner loop and outer loop of the beltway, no big problems there. 270 northbound after 28, west montgomery has two lanes blocked northbound with a crash there.
