take a look at the video. right through the front of that house. what we know is that the home located along carrie place in upper marlboro. no word on if anyone has been injured. stay with us for updates. we're staying on top of another story. the deadly amtrak derailment south of seattle have been a ripple effect. >> 5 near dupont is shut down for investigation. chris lawrence is at the live desk for the latest. chris? >> eun, aaron, a few hours ago the ntsb revealed that the train was traveling 80 miles an hour in a 30 miles an hour zone. it was traveling from seattle to portland along a high-speed route. some trains collapsed on the interstate highway. others dangled in the air. three people were killed and paramedics had to rush more than 70 others to the hospital. one couple describes what happened from their hospital bed. >> tossing

on bruce place southeast at the frederick douglass community center. people there told news 4 the teen was on the court when someone robbed and then shot him. he died at the scene. the victim's name has not been released. this morning, a d.c. woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries from a fire. it started inside a first floor apartment last night. a second woman and a firefighter were also taken to the hospital. they're expected to be okay. firefighters also rescued a puppy. no word on how the fire started. the remnants of this brushfire in gaithersburg are still burning. chopper 4 flew over the scene near lay tonsville road last night. see all the flames there. firefighters doused the fire and contained it as much as they could. they expect it to continue burning for hours. no word yet on what caused it. the washington redskins safety su'a cravens is threatening to sue the loudoun

>> he says he was racially profiled and roughed up during a local stop. the sheriff's office says it was by the book. >> justin finch has more. >> reporter: hey there, aaron. cravens is fired up on what he says played out in this plaza behind us here. this is ashburn village boulevard not far from a middle school where the sheriff's office was carrying out a traffic safety patrol. they're saying on that day their laser reader locked in on cravens' car going 39 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour school zone. but on twitter, cravens says that he was stopped, handcuffed and had his car searched for drugs because he was being racially profiled. >> your car ran up on me. what? pulled me off the car and started pushing me up against the -- this man opened my door. was he saying i smelled

>> here's the sheriff's office side. statement reading in part, they say the deputy initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over into a shopping center. cravens was issued a virginia uniform summons for speeding and a second summons for illegal window tint. we can tell you his court date will be january 26th and he's also said as you mentioned that he's threatening to sue for what happened here back on november 29th. live here in ash ford, justin finch, news 4. back to you. 5:07 right now. things are getting back to normal for air travelers. take a look. this is a live look at flight aware's misery map. you can see that the atlanta hartsfield jackson airport is finally green after being red since that massive power outage created a travel nightmare on sunday. it was purple on the map. not sure what that means. the blackout lasts more than ten hours but the ripple effects were felt all day on monday. more than 4

canceled yesterday, 1100 on sunday. a fire inside an airport tunnel is to blame for the blackout. these new images show the damage there. airport officials say a switch caught fire and then burned through seven critical lines knocking out the power system and the backup power system. >> equipment failed. but our focus and our responsibility for this airport is to ensure reliability is 100%. it failed. now we have to respond and make sure it doesn't happen again. >> apparently, one of the wires leading to the switch was frayed. airport officials believe a rat may have gnawed on that wire. that sparked the fire. it's 5:08. a live look at the u.s. capitol. later today, lawmakers plan to begin voting on the republican tax bill. the house is scheduled to start voting around 1:30 this afternoon. the legislation will head to the senate for passage there. the bill cuts the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%. it does away with p

the surveillance video from that room will be turned over to state investigators. an increase in humidity and decreased wind speeds are helping firefighters battling the thomas fire in southern california. at last check, cal fire is reporting that the fire is 50% contained. that's a slight improvement from yesterday. more than 100,000 -- i'm sorry. 1,000 structures have been destroyed there, including the home where the eagles recorded their hit, "hotel california." i mean, you know you're really good when you get not one but two jersey numbers retired. last night the lakers retired both numbers kobe bryant wore during his basketball career. >> look at his face. he's like yeah, i did that. >> he is the first player in any professional sport to have two numbers retired. the 18-time all-star played 20

deadly crash. we're joined live from dupont washington where the train careened off the tracks. curt, good morning to you. >> reporter: aaron and eun, good morning to both of you. that's right. we had a news conference overnight with ntsb investigators. they told us the train was traveling at 80 miles per hour. this is only a 30 mile per hour zone. they're trying to determine exactly why that was happening. it happened in the morning rush hour. this was the inaugural run of a high-speed service meant to connect the portland and the seattle areas. this is a popular route not only for commuters but expected to get a lot of use in the upcoming holiday travel period. there were about 80 passengers and crew members on board the train at the time. now, we're told that there were three people on board the train that were killed. nearly 100 that were injured. local fire officials are telling

critical. as we take a live look at the scene, you can see that crane is here. heavy duty machinery and workers are trying to clean everything off the runway. officials have told us that they don't expect this portion of southbound interstate 5 to reopen in time for the morning commute. they're hoping to make progress. also, in terms of progress with the investigation, later today investigators are hoping to talk to members of the crew to determine exactly what happened. they say that they will remain in this area for the next ten days or so. it could take up to a year before we know the cause of the crash. now, back to you. >> kirk hawkins live in dupont washington for us. >> we've been watching and you guys talking about this weather system sweeping in from canada across the whole country. >> i love when he does the meteorologist thing. uses the hand motions and everything. >> what are they forecasting, 1 below in minneapolis. >> for a high temperature. >> high temperatures below zero. >> the finest

among key provisions, it cuts the corporate tax rate and eliminates obamacare's mandatory health insurance coverage by 2019. edward lawrence will dissect the bill coming up in 15 minutes. it will be a sad holiday season for the family of a doctor and his daughter who died in a single engine plane crash. they were killed on the way to frederick, maryland, after their plane crashed in indiana over the weekend. d the doctor picked up his daughter in kansas and was headed back home. the crash also killed one dog on board, a second dog survived. he taught at uniform services university of health sciences in bethesda. >> both because he was a young man and sudden and the tragic nature of it and knowing that his daughter died with him and what this meant to his

the doctor's daughter was studying to earn both her m.d. and ph.d. like her father. authorities say the plane had instrument problems which caused it to go down. we now know how virginia's governor plans to help fund metro. the governor wants to raise taxes on real estate, hotels and gasoline. he says that would bring in an additional $65 million a year for metro. republican lawmakers have already come out against that idea. d.c. has its own idea about how to raise money for metro. the district wants to raise the sales tax by a penny. the increase would happen if virginia and maryland did the same or came up with similar plans. maryland's governor, larry hogan, offered metro $500 million over four years if d.c., virginia and the federal government do the same. that plan has been criticized for falling short of what metro needs. prince george's county police say they've arrested a trio of serial cell phone robbers. the suspects, van earl eubanks,

robinson were arrested after they robbed a cell phone store in capital heights. look at the surveillance pictures. they showed the men robbing a store last week. they robbed a third store in district heights earlier this month. you talk about a real grinch. somebody stole a man's car over the weekend in prince george's county as he was out doing holiday shopping. the good news is that his mercedes was actually found. it's now sitting in a tow lot in landover. they found it somewhere in southeast d.c. on saturday, it was snatched from the mall. the mall at prince george's in hyattsville. the owner said he had no plans to press charges against the thief. >> even if they would have caught the guy, i wouldn't have pressed charges. i wouldn't have done that. >> why not? >> it's the holidays. i don't want to be in jail and i don't want to see nobody else in jail. the owner had some christmas gifts in the trunk and he's not sure if they're still there. he thinks he may have dropped

puppy in prince george's county. the dog was found in an ice-covered culvert shivering. we have a happy update. one of the firefighters who helped rescue the dog plans to adopt him if the owners can't be found. look at him. crews did not find a collar on him or a microchip. lucky dog right there. now to a story only on news 4. a d.c. mother says she's still shaken up after school staff sent her 3-year-old daughter home with the wrong person. >> really bizarre. this happened at cleveland elementary school in the shaw neighborhood on friday. a man returned the girl to the school safely. she was unharmed. after an hour. he originally picked up his niece who has a similar name. the girl responded to his niece's name. the girl owes mother who didn't want to show her face doesn't feel comfortable sending her daughter back to school yet. >> i'm like, oh, my god, what happened to my daughter? who was she wih?

this is video showing the dramatic moments protesters occupied the u.s. capitol last night. they're upset about the vote on the gop tax plan: the protesters called the bill a scam. several people were arrested there. despite the pushback, congressional republicans hope to have a tax bill on thement's desk as soon as tomorrow. the households a final vote today with the senate soon to follow. this isn't the only legislative battle for lawmakers before the new year. they also need to pass a new budget or face a government shutdown. >> to help break down these issues that affect husband directly, let's turn to edward lawrence on capitol hill this morning. good morning. >> good morning, aaron. let's talk about the taxes first. it's going to be a skeptical public that lawmakers have to convince that this is a good tax plan. new polls out show 47% of american people now disapprove of this tax plan that they are looking at, in fact half of the americans in t
