let's check out today with the forecast sheena parveen standing by with everything you need to know, especially if you are trying to book it out the door. sheena. >> yes, erika, because we know today is a big travel day. good news though the weather will be cooperating. but the roads will be very busy. 40 degrees right now. chilly out there. probably still want the warm jacket and through the day today i think you can use it. sunny skies in the forecast all day long. looking at nice dry conditions even as we end out the week. look at the temperatures elsewhere. we saw upper 30s on the map. clinton and kwau clinton. but in the afternoon mid-40s. chilly today. nice weather through the end of the week for travel. but for the weekend we may have some issues developing depending where you are heading. and watching christmas day i have the updated forecast. that's straight head,

but for now you have a good travel forecast. in a matter of hours the roads will swell. news4 megan cmcgraph is working for you how to avoid hot spots. megan. >> reporter: yeah, not too bad. let's take a look at the live cameras, dash cam. you can see we don't have a lot of volume at this point. so that's good news for motorists. but this will change. outer belt in virginia driving through tysons corner area and driving at speed. however, triple-a is calling this the terrible traffic tri fek ta. they are predicting that today will be the worst travel day with 7.2 million people out driving in our area. let's take a look at some of the other conditions around the region. here's another traffic camera here. this is georgia avenue in the beltway in maryland. you can see we are seeing some heavy volume in that

starting to see some slowing down. let's take a look at another camera. i-66, this is 66 west of the fairfax county parkway. also starting to see some volume there. now, a lot of people who had to work today, they are already in the office. so not so bad. it's building, but not terrible right now. however, later today, 3 clock to 6 clock that is expected to be the worst. that's going to be the peak. as commuters are coming home from work and mixing on the roadways with the holiday travelers. now let's take a look at some of the historical hot spots. 270, basically the entire stretch. and i-95 in both maryland and virginia. the advice here is to leave around noon or 1:00 so that you can get out of the dmv before things start to get
