kind of neighborhood where everybody knows each other. one resident telling us the loudest thing that happens there is the occasional barking dog. but today the peace and quiet neighborhood in reston shattered after a couple was found murdered. derrick ward is live now on black fir court with more on the victims. derrick? >> reporter: good afternoon. this is where this is all going on now. you can see that the house is still the scene of a lot of investigation. detectives have been going through the scene pretty much all morning and they are about wrapping up now. we now know the names of the victims. they're 43-year-old buckley tricker and her husband 48-year-old scott fricker. they were found shot to death in this house earlier this morning. there was a third person who was also found shot. that person has been taken to the hospital in critical condition and that person's name has not been released. now, investigators say there were indeed several people in the home at the time among them the three children, the youngest of which is middle school

the family had endeared themselves to this community. even though they've only been here for about three months, this is what one neighbor had to say. >> we went to the house warming in august and we were at a christmas party up the street like two days ago. >> reporter: now, there was some concern among this community about whether or not there was a danger. police quickly said that they think they have everyone involved in this accounted for, so that means they think the person who fired these shots is among the people who are being investigated or at least interviewed by detectives at this time. again, no identities on the other people in the home and no information about exactly where the people were found in the home. only that this is a tragedy for this neighborhood and this community. we'll have more about these victims and about this ensuing investigation coming up later on news4. right now we're live in reston. derrick ward, news4. back to you. >> i'm erika gonzalez at the live desk. watching a developing story in green

field where police are describing it as a multi-car collision. they have somebody in custody. we're trying to get video in the newsroom. to put it simply, it looks like somebody rammed a car into the back of the truck and that car got wedged beneath that truck. as soon as we get some video here in the newsroom, we'll have it for you. one person has been arrested. no injuries that we are hearing of at this point. back to you guys in the studio. >> thank you, erika. now we turn to a story you'll see only here on news4. a crime that highlights a serious security flaw for both public and private schools in our area. this afternoon a maryland man is in custody. he is accused of stealing from teachers' purses during the school day. police say he did this at more than half a dozen schools. our prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins reports. >> reporter: the question is how could a crime like this happe h? how could a man with no relationship to schools be allowed to walk into private and public schools in our area and target

it happened here at the international scoot in bladensburg and across the street at bladensburg elementary and private and public schools in both prince georges and montgomery county. this is video you'll see only on news4. we were there when the bladensburg police department, the lead police department in this investigation, took nakim into custody. he lives in germantown. they brought him back here to bladensburg where he is being held in the bladensburg police department. according to the police department he is responsible for going into a number of schools during school hours, sometimes walking along with other students, going into unlocked classrooms and stealing out of teachers purses. he would then take debit cards and credit cards that he stole and buy stuff from target and sometimes safe way. he was charged with doing the same thing in montgomery county just a few months ago. hear now from the lead detective on the case. >> well, it's egregious

have children and educators that are teaching our children, to steal from them. >> reporter: the prince george's county public school system worked with police to give them the video they needed to track this guy down. of course the school system is taking a look at how this was allowed to happen and seeing what they can do to sure up their security. in blade ends burg, i'm tracee wilkins, news4. >> boy, how can that still happen? thank you, tracee. this just in, now. we have learned the director has been fired. the news comes after tracee wilkins reported on deplorable conditions at the family crisis center at prince george's county. they said there were problems with mold and mice and no heat. executive director sophie ford told news4 the shelter was fine. after our story aired, county officials went there and they inspected the shelter and told us they disagreed with ford and she has now been terminated. >> another federal government shut down has been averted for now. pres

stop-gap spending bill in the oval office this morning. it will keep the government running through january 19th. the $4.6 billion measure will also fund missile defense programs and pay for repairs to navy destroyers damaged in collisions over the summer. an important reminder about your health care coverage. this afternoon, if you live in maryland and you use the affordable care act, you have until midnight to complete your enrollment in the state's market place. maryland actually extended the deadline to today because the president shortened the open enrollment period this year. virginia's deadline was last week. d.c. residents still have until january 31st. >> today is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year when you include both in-store and online shopping combined. even bipggger than black friday. that could mean big savings for all you last-minute shoppers. >> it is finally here, the final stretch of the holiday season, that shopping crunch is officially on. 16% of americans have already

since august. >> luckily she's small. we had to sleep in the same bed four months. >> before that they sent another year in another hotel. and before that, a year at the d.c. general homeless shelter. while bouncing between homeless shelters the last three years, she has held a job and made sure that somage stayed in school. >> it made me humble myself. it was stressful. >> reporter: throughout all the hotels and shelters, she and her children never gave up hope they'd one day have their own home. >> no matter what you go through, just keep faith. >> reporter: today that faith paid off as they moved into their new home, a two bedroom apartment fully furnished, a place of their own for the holidays. tamisha and her children are one of nearly 300 homeless families who have moved into stable homes of their own since d.c. mayor muriel bowser launched the home for the holidays program in november. >> the campaign doesn't

well, they are going r going to be dropping, not: in the south 57, up to the north it's in the 40s. look at this, 46 in leesburg, a few miles away manassas at 54. you can see where the warmer air is. it's trying to move on in here. we' it will continue to do so overnight. it will not cool that much. the rain not showing much. you see a couple heirs i can'ts. the rain not hitting the ground. it is back to the west. you can see that rain moving on in. it is a pretty good amount of rain moving in our direction. we're going to see this move in overnight into early tomorrow morning then we get a break. let's time it for you hour by hour. 11:00 tonight no rain. if you're heading out on friday, you're looking at a nice evening, nice for dinner. nice for a movie, late night. if you're getting back in at say 3:00 or 4:00 a.m., going to be a little rain out there. that rain coming down pretty good around that time. notice around 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 a.m., through 9:00, rain likely from d.c. northward. watch what happens by noon. everybody clears out. when we clear out, we

and go back to the security checkpoint. turns out an air conditioning unit overheated and the smoke triggered the alarm. passengers were allowed back in 90 minutes later, but they had to go through security again. at the peak of the holiday shopping season, some of the best deals are out of the reach of many of us. and the reason is that they're on local military bases. military exchange stores offer tax-free price s to local military families, but an investigation by scott macfarlane and the news4 i-team revealed thieves are on the prowl there, too. >> reporter: on this day, there's no rushing and few long lines here. at the military exchange store at fort mead in maryland. >> the pressure here -- >> reporter: military veteran wi wilbert snell and his wife shop here, a benefit of military veterans.

them. >> reporter: selling all these clothes, cosmetics and cameras go back to people who live in the military community. this is fort mead's mike jones. >> our sales generates the swimming pools, the bowling alleys, the things for the phils here. >> reporter: if you think these stores are set up for the military on bases protected by the military are off-limits for criminals, watch this. after hours, two men break into a navy exchange in norfolk. they smash into the counter, stealing jewelry, dumping more than $44,000 in rolex watches into their bags. police busted them trying to pawn the stolen loot in north carolina. they and their get away driver pleaded guilty to federal theft charges this year. >> they have very expensive items that are available for families in the service to buy for gifts. >> reporter: outgoing u.s. attorney dana, prosecuted the case and several other recent base thefts in northern virginia, too. people caughtfa

ban from the exchange or the military itself. we wanted know how often this is happening. we filed a series of freedom of information requests with the military. and in their records we found our answer. nationwide, a quarter of a million dollars in thefts from navy exchanges, 300 incidents in maryland and virginia. army wide and air force military exchanges including nearly 500 cases in virginia and maryland. and the records list more than 100 of the thefts here at fort mooet whe mead where they monitor. how close do you get? >> pretty close. >> reporter: theft isn't possible, but inevitable. >> shoplifters shop lift once, they'll shop lift twice. if we don't get them the first time, we might get them the second time. >> reporter: they found a wide range of cases this year. one woman stole hair care products. another charged with pocketin

everywhere by around 3:00 a.m., it could move in a little sooner back to the west. as i mention, 11:00, 12:00 hour. most of us seeing the rain overnight tomorrow morning. shower activity, if you're south of d.c., you're just about done with the rain throughout much of the afternoon. notice by noon it's out of here, and then we get some really warm air. i'm going 60s tomorrow across the region before the rain does move back in. so, if you are heading out tomorrow night, driving tomorrow night, it does look like you could be for some wet roadways, north, south, east or west depending where you're going tomorrow probably the worst travel day. just rain, we're not talking about snow until you get way out to the west. what about the rest of your holiday weekend? we have a lot of ups and downs out there. if you're shopping, hanging out, no matter what you're doing, tracking christmas, somara theodore with more on that. >> i haven't even started yet. we do is have some rain moving in. see saturday, not a complete wash out, but have the umbrella on hand because we are going to

to be seeing a few showers throughout the day. temperatures tomorrow in the low to mid 60s for a lot of us. if you are planning on heading out on christmas eve for the stores that are open, temperatures will be in the low to mid and mid to upper 40s. a little closer to average, but definitely cooler than you'll see on saturday. we are drying out sunday. you don't have to contend with any rain. so, looking at your weather outlook, any holiday travel, the roads are dry right now. but we've got the rain moving in late tonight into tomorrow morning. if you are going to be flying, we do have some rain showers on saturday, again, drying out by christmas eve. and for those of you shopping, don't forget the coats, the jackets, it will be chilly out there especially on sunday. holiday parties, while you're going out tonight it should be pretty dry. when you're coming back in you'll see the showers. have the windshield wipers moving. let's talk christmas day. temperatures will be upper 30s that will be a shock to your system when you're in the 60s on saturday. sta take a look at the wind chills.
