parts of our western areas, look at the radar now. nothing in the d.c. metro area right now, but you can see it's close in areas like leesburg and frederick, seeing light rain, back to the winchester area where it's been raining for one to two hours. the wider view here, there's a lot of rain to go, but the warm slots first over the next couple hours, rain overnight and early tomorrow morning and then a break, temperatures go up, and we see the rain come back. even at this hour, here it is, 11:00 at night, the temperature is 53 degrees, 10 degrees above average. more about the temperatures tomorrow because they go way up, but they come right back down. tracking tomorrow's rain, much colder for christmas, and, yes, snow chances are increasing. talk about a possibility of a big storm next week, and about ten minutes. >> we're all ears. thank you. watching how that forecast impacts your travel plans

values that she and her husband died, because they were literally trying to save their daughter. >> the most wonderful couple. >> in a phone interview, she says her daughter had recently been consumed with concern about her 16-year-old daughter's boyfriend. describing the young man, 17, an a supporter of nazism. >> they found out about my daughter, her husband, found out about the nazi stuff this past week, and they forbid their daughter to see him again. >> as a matter of fact, county police came to the home on black fir court just after 5:00 a.m. to find a scene of unimaginable horror and sadness. inside the house already decorated for christmas, they found her and her husband, scott, dead of gunshot wounds. a third person described by sources as a 17-year-old man is hospitaliin

condition with a single gunshot wound. the attorney seen here on the website advertising her senior services company and authored a book on elder care issues and attended the medero school. scot worked for the federal government. she said her daughter posted on facebook 1:00 a.m. hours before her death saying the last post was a quote, a reference to her battle against the ideology in which her teenage daughter was being indoctrinated by the boyfriend. >> for good men to do nothing. that was her last post. >> reporter: so far, no charges filed in the case. live in reston, news 4. breaking news here at the live desk. a new challenge to the president's travel ban. a federal appeals court in zpsa francisco says it violates

doesn't have the authority to authorize it. now, you may remember this keeps people from six muslim majority countries from entering the united states or people with family connections in the state. opponents say it's discrimination against muslim. the trump administration says it's a matter of national security. tonight's decision is on hold pending a final ruling from the supreme court. the high court did allow the ban to take effect earlier this month, but announced it's going to reconsider the order after a ruling from an appeals court in virginia. keep you posted on what happens going forward. at the live desk, jim, back to you. >> leon, thank you. a father of a man suspected of plotting a terrorist attack in the country is not buying the fbi's story. investigators say everett targeted pier 39 in san francisco bay. they say he wanted to carry out an attack on christmas in a show of support for isis, but he was unknowin

right now to protect you. >> reporter: well, erika, right now, masryland state troopers ae out here cracking down on dui drivers saying this puts everyone at risk including themselves and they are determined to do what they can to stop it. maryland state trooper matthew dole is determined to protect people from drunk drivers. he takes it personally. >> i got family out here as well driving, friends, family, make sure everybody gets to their destination safe. >> reporter: we rode with him on 270. >> there's a range of things to look for like varying speeds, going too fast, too slow, not staying within their lane. crossing over the lines. >> reporter: state police and law enforcement agencies in d.c. and virginia are looking for impaired drivers this holiday season. maryland state police have responded to 18

last year, around the same time, it was 13. here in our area? just this morning, a suspected dui driver hit a traffic sign on the icc, causing a support beam to crash into the windshield. the driver was not hurt. police arrested him. a few days ago, montgomery county police arrested two suspected dui drivers while officers were investigating at a scene where an alleged drunk driver hit and killed a man on a moped. >> if you're going to drink, don't drive, just call a friend, a cab, a taxi, uber, lyft. >> reporter: if you are out with friends at a holiday party, maryland state troopers recommend you find a designated driver. live here, news 4. >> shomari, thank you. president trump called the affordable care act a disaster and vowed to repeal it, but the vast majority of the people who are benefitting from the law

in state's trump carried in the election. the ap says new numbers show 7.3 million of the 8.8 million people who signed up for the next year come from president trump states. now, the deadline to sign up in maryland is midnight. folks in d.c. have until the end of january. the deadline, by the way, in virginia was last week. a man's plan to get quick cash exposed various security flaws in the area schools. it's a story only on news 4. we were there when police arrested john sheffield this morning. he entered at least eight public and private schools and walked the halls in school hours looking for empty, unlocked classrooms. >> he would steal credit cards from the teachers' purses, staffs' purses, immediately leave the school, and go to various stores.

on the backside, but we'll get into the warm sector of the storm, meaning we're going to warm into the upper 50s and 60sment rain tonight, and notice how we see a break here, 4:00, we got the rain, again, in our north western zone. it comes through the d.c. memet, we could see heavy rainfall at 5:00 a.m. that pulls out as well and we have drier conditions around noon, and the rain comes back in, but on the lighter side before the front moves through, and then we see more shower activity in the afternoon. this is not a watshout, not all day rain on saturday, but if you are out doing some shopper, make sure to take the umbrella. you will need it. periods of rain. breezy. winds gusting 20-30 miles per hour at times, but the winds bring us up to 64 degrees in d.c. some of you could be in the mid to upper

degrees for a high. very warm. right back down, 20 degrees cooler sunday, looking nice, though. partly to mostly cloudy. some sun on christmas, but it's not going to help. 39 degrees. the wind chill on christmas day will be in the 20s. it feels 40 degrees colder on christmas than the day tomorrow, and then we get into some nasty weather. not tuesday. tuesday's not bad. high temperature 41. huh, five days next week all the way through next weekend including the first of the new year, frigid temperatures, in the 20s, and, yes, tracking a chance for snow friday into saturday. that's a storm we really need to watch. the conditions are right for a possibility of a big storm then, could have rain, snow, ice, all possibilities right there, and, again, download our app. they said the app says 3-5 inches. don't listen to that.

well, wizards and cavs had different nights, this is the time of the year they find their grove, and faced a team with the worst record in the nhl. wizards, we'll get to that night in just a minute. putrid. 23 goals so far this year, tied for the top spot in the nhl, this, though, a struggle out of the gate. good looks in the first, and that's jason at the net, but, nope. christian juice try to slap shot, but remains scoreless after one, second period, a good sign, just the second game back since returning from missing six games because of a concussion, the first time, this game still in progress, late in the third, though, and we're tied at two a piece. wizards lost to the nets ten days ago without john wall. you'd think with their best player back, they would play better tonight. well, that's not the case.

wizards played the first of three games in four nights in the series of a back-to-back, so they limited the all-nba performer's minutes. the results? not good at all. playing just seven minutes in the first half, and brooklyn took control, and it's not the team that played above the rim, but here they are, flying through the paint. doing the honors, back to the net, and they have the second fewest dunks in the nba, joe harris, well, that's just mean. all over. the wizards trailed by ten at the half. third quarter, it gets worse. the nets' dunk contest continues, this one curtesy of jefferson. brooklyn's lead up converting, a 26-point game, and wizards are blown out 119-84, john played just 16 minutes. here's why the star player was so limited. >> i was going to
