as we approach 8:30 on this saturday, it's been a busy overnight. we have breaking news we told you about a minute ago. right now, we'll get right to the forecast though, where we have storm team 4 meteorologist lauryn ricketts standing by. what you got, ricketts? >> i got some warming temperatures. how about 60s? >> i'll take it. >> we'll take it. >> cool down right before christmas. 60s today. we do have some rain out there. we're going to be deal winning th -- dealing with that. christmas day, definitely going to feel like christmas. if you're headed north, got a better chance of seeing snow. talking about north out of our area. let's show you what's going on out there right now, specifically with the rain. 51 degrees. our average temperature is 46. it's 8:30 in the morning and we're past that. we're going to continue to warm things up. by noon, we're going to be already at 60 degrees. now, the rain pushing in from the west to the east. this is what you can expect for your saturday. periods of rain. it is going to be breezy at

they'll be with us until 9:00 tonight. there will be travel trouble out there. again, looking at our radar, we see a few rain showers. here it is. it is moving through our area later on this afternoon. we'll time it out. a big mess anywhere from st. louis all the way to the east coast. check your flight information as you head out. i know we have a lot of travel delays. we'll talk about the rain and christmas forecast coming up. right now, we want to talk about this breaking news coming in. a young girl shot and killed. here we are days before christmas. here's what we know about this. it happened in acquasco, maryland, prince george's county. we had chopper this over the scene on st. phillip's road late last night. police found the girl dead sometime before 11:30. a lot of questions here. we know that. we're working to find out what led up to this shooting and who is behind it. when we get the updates, we're going to keep you posted in the nbc washington app. and we are following another breaking news story this morning. nine pe

their home days before the christmas holiday. a fire broke out early this morning on a home on 21st street on trenton place. >> derrick ward is live in southeast. what do we know so far? >> reporter: well, we do know that as bad as things look, it could have been a lot worse. ten people were displaced by this two-alarm fire. started at 4:00 a.m. you can see the extensive damage. smoke still coming from one of the houses that probably received the most damage. a few feet across, the house was damaged from radiant heat. this is video of the scene earlier. this happened at 4:00 a.m. one of the residents of one of the houses was the first to detect something was going on. she knocked on neighbors doors, woke them up and they had to rush out. some kids in diapers. one child is among those displaced. pretty much what they have on their backs. the red cross is he,

d.c. fire crews spent hours trying to calm the flames at a business on 18th street northwest. you see the thick smoke rising through the roof of the cajun restaurant. it is between a convenient store and ethiopian restaurant. investigators having to go through the window, cracking the glass to try and battle this fire. no word on what caused the blaze. a homicide mystery is unraveling in reston this morning. >> this is a bizarre case, and one that with each passing hour we're getting new details. it comes after a couple is found dead inside their home. sources say a teen is in the hospital. scott fricker and his wife buckley were found shot to death inside their home. this was around 5:00 yesterday morning on black fur court. police say a third person with gunshot wounds was taken to the hospital. sources say that person was a

in a phone interview, the woman's mother says there was some sort of dispute with their teen daughter's boyfriend because he was allegedly a nazi supporter. >> my daughter and her husband found out about a lot of the nazi stuff just this past week. they forbid their daughter to see him again. >> a neighbor says the couple had just moved into the home not long ago. no one has been charged in their deaths. now to president trump's highly contested travel ban. a federal appeals court in san francisco says it violates federal law. however, the latest decision is on hold pending a supreme court ruling. that means people from six majority muslim countries still cannot come into the u.s. earlier this month, supreme court allowed the ban to take effect, pending other litigation. so far, no reaction from the president, who is traveling down in florida. we have not heard from him on this latest decision. this morning, we're working for you to make sure you have a

welcome back in on this saturday. we want to share with you an important reminder as you gather around the christmas tree this weekend. as beautiful as they look this time of year, they can be dangerous and deadly. >> christmas trees cause hundreds of fires each year. you probably remember this one we're about to show you back in january of 2015. an annapolis couple and four of their grandchildren died when their tree ignited the home. the sister of one of the victims is making it her mission to remind others how to keep safe during this holiday season. >> i just don't want to see this tragedy happen to anyone else. my three cardinal rules are basically water your tree every day. unplug it overnight once not attended. not just turn it off. there's still current running through, even if it is off. and also to dispose of it within 30 days of getting it or by january 2nd, whichever

this breaking news affecting you if you're headed out on the roads. you see an image we have this morning. all northbound lanes of the gw parkway are closed after the roosevelt bridge. we know one person rushed to the hospital is now in stable condition. this crash, obviously, going to require a lot of cleanup. hence the northbound lanes of the gw parkway there closed as they work on it. at this christmas -- this christmas, police want to remind everyone about the dangers of drinking and driving. >> real danger. maryland state police tell us they plan to be out on the roads watching for dangerous

get this. since the middle of december, police say in maryland, they have been to 18 crashes involving alcohol. compare that to last year. the number at the time, 13. troopers say they are constantly eyeing traffic to look for folks who may not be following the law. >> varying speeds, somebody going too fast, too slow, not staying within their lane, crossing over the lines. >> i didn't do moyesterday morn suspected dui driver hit a sign, where the pole went through the windshield. police say the driver kept going until he was pulled over and arrested. and are you up early to finish the holiday shopping you've been avoiding? are you ready for it? >> why are you looking at me? >> are you ready for it? >> you won't be the only one searching for last-minute gifts. listen to this. we got the numbers here. the national retail federation predicts that 126 million

the warm front that lifted through yesterday, that's why it is wet, still hung up. some of these temperatures are in the 40s. it'll lift and take some of the rain with it. it'll come up to the mid 60s, where we're going to top out today. a lot of rain moving to the north with the warm front. it is attached to a cold front. the cold front goes back to louisiana. this rain will be moving in through the mid-morning and then headed to the east was we go through the noon hour. it'll be with us all afternoon. we're going to be dealing with rain showers. you can see, we've got a lot of big mess along the east coast. if you're traveling east coast from st. louis all the way to the eastern seaboard, pay attention to your flight. again, pay attention to the weather if you are traveling. download the nbc washington app. we have the radar on there, as well. again, flying out of bwi, low 60s. some rain. same with charlotte. boston is getting snow and
