hurt a woman while she was doing her job protecting children. >> news 4 begins with storm team 4. >> freezing cold, a chance of snow and now the potential for dangerous conditions on the roads tomorrow. good evening, everyone. i'm leon harris. a winter weather advisory now in effect for parts of our area tomorrow morning. so if it's your back-to-work day, we want you to be prepared. let's get right to storm team 4 meteorologist amelia draper. >> we're in weather alert mode tonight because of the potential of those slick spots tomorrow morning. we're not talking about a lot of snow, under an inch, but it all about the timing. this is issued by the national weather service and it includes all of the counties in purple from 2:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. but even if you're not in this advisory, i'm looking at you and prince

doesn't mean you're not going to see any snow tomorrow morning. the potential is still there. the national weather service has issued the advisory because of the timing and how cold it will be. anything that falls could stick immediately, especially on untreated roads. back in west virginia, it moves in starting around 2 a.m. in some areas and go until 11 a.m. it's the road temperatures and that morning timing if you do have a commute tomorrow morning that will lead to some slick spots and potential for reduced visibilities. here we are, future weather tracking that snow, it's in the d.c. metro area. i'll have more on the timing and the impacts from the cold, leon, because overall that, is the big weather sorry tonight coming up right around 11:15. >> you're right about that but befory get e we get to that cha, a traffic

going to washington, d.c. into virginia. look at that mess there. all northbound lanes were closed at lorton road just before 9:00. officials reported backup of at least four miles. good thing is that no one was injured. >> she puts her body on the line to protect children every day and now an elementary school crossing guard is recovering from injuries from a hit and run. one week ago tomorrow, someone hit her and police are still looking for that driver. >> i'm upset that it happened. i'm upset that she is in the pain that she's in. >> tiffany johnson is outraged that a hit-and-run

slammed into the crossing guard. >> we are heart broken that someone who literally protects our children every day was injured and that no one has come forward. >> juan works for west education campus. she was helping kids cross the street a couple blocks away from the school last wednesday morning. according to the police report, the driver who hit her slowed down and kept on going. a piece of the bumper was left here at the scene. police photographed it and took it away as evidence. they say that they are looking for a blue car, possibly a honda. >> right now i'm just in a lot of pain. >> she said medics drove her to the hospital with a broken neck and pelvis. >> how can people be so heartless and just keep going, not even to stop to make sure i was

>> tiffany's daughter, angel, and other children miss jawan. tiffany hopes they catch the driver. >> she needs justice. >> shamari stone, news 4. >> this fiery crash left three people dead. the families are now looking for answers. the accident happened early this morning and police are trying to figure out what caused a mercedes to swerve off rose hill road into a tree and burst into flames. a father and son driving by saw the flames and stopped to try and help. >> the car was just in flames and the door had fell off and the trees

>> there are new reports tonight about the murder of a couple in reston, virginia and the suspect's possible connection to neonazism. police say a 27-year-old gunman shot his wife. the teen also shot himself. he's still alive with life-threatening injuries. the couple had become concerned their daughter's boyfriend was a neonazi. the teen has not yet been identified. he is expected, though, to be charged in those murders. >> we have new video tonight to show you related to deadly stabbing at howard county. it happened at the trellis center convenience store. a man and a woman are seen walking from a

window. her husband had just returned home and intervened. >> it was determined that we did not have the information we needed to verify a crime had been committed. >> reporter: police stress not having enough evidence to arrest the man at the scene does not mean he's not on their radar. >> we did take a report, we took his photo, we documented his information and at any moment our detectives can apply for charges if the time comes for that. >> reporter: the girl's mother said that information is a relief to her. >> and i also informed some of the neighbors as well that this man was looking around in people's windows. >> reporter: we are told patrol officers in this area have been told to be on the lookout for suspicious baehavior by this ma. >> today the montgomery county council gave homeowners the

in the house of delegates. now that drawing is delayed. lawyers for democrat shelly simons want a court to reconsider its ruling last week that declared the race a tie. they believe she beat delegate yancey. if simons wins her case, it will split control of the house 50/50. and we'll be watching. >> our news partners report a democrat in another close virginia house race will not contest the result. democrat joshua cole lost to republican bob thomas by 73 votes in his staffer district. cole says he'll continue to support a federal lawsuit seeking an all new election because of voters in that distri district receiving the wrong ballots. >> coming

shot. detectives are now trying to figure out if there was an attempted burglary or a home invasion. >> the new metro rail cars are beautiful, sleek and shiny but some say they're also loud and heavy, shaking moments nearby. it's become such an issue that metro launched a study to figure out what the problem was here. the transit agency admits there are increased vibration levels for some of the trains that they run. >> reporter: cracks on the floor, dry wall separating, pictures that have fallen from walls, even china that's fallen out of cabinets, auchl ill issut residents along the petworth neighborhood in d.c. have been caused by these heavy new trains rumbling under their homes. they're built with heavy steel and weigh about 2,000 pound

>> fairfax county police say two people tried to take advantage of shoppers out looking for holiday deal selling fake mac book pro laptops. this happened last week. the plain clothed officers noticed they didn't look authentic and that's when they arrested these two people. they found drugs as well inside their car. >> now to that yearly post-holiday rush to the mall. there are four things you need to know about taking items back to the stores. keep your tags in tact and original packaging on, especially for electronics. hang on to your receipts, and check store policies. some stores have limited return windows or only offer store credit. make sure you bring your i.d. it will make things a

year's eve, in the teens. here's the latest on the snow. you can see it very clearly here. this will move in jove nigovern. not everybody is going to see snow. by tomorrow evening it's dry and throughout the entire day on thursday we're going to keep it completely dry. here's future weather, here's the timing. remember when i mentioned that winter weather advisory, the baltimore metro area? it does not include locations that future weather is putting out snow. here's the latest timing. d.c. metro around 2 a.m. 5 a.m. you can see snow impacting a good portion of the area, including the beltway. 8 a.m. we're still tracking the snow in some locations by 10 a.m., this event really

again, i can't rule out slick spots tomorrow morning. that's why it's going to be a storm team 4 weather alert day. 24 degrees at 7 a.m. we have increasing sunshine throughout the day but we have a bit of a breeze with us tomorrow. so we will be brutal feels-like temperatures throughout the day. 7 p.m., 22 degrees but feels like temperatures heading towards the single digits. because of the snow, because of the cold, the weather will have a moderate impack. by lunch time you'll be just fine out there. taking down the holiday lights feels like temperatures in the teens and 20s. that will continue to be the case the next ten days. if you have to get them down, just -- not much difference by 2:00 in the afternoon. 9:00 tomorrow evening, you're taking the dog out, it
