let's get to the top store i that fire broke out in a five-story brick apartment building in the bronx. 12 people are dead, including a one-year-old child. four people are st. i will in the hospital this morning f it started around 7:00 last night in a building near the bronx zoo. they deployed about 170 firefighters. the mayor is calling it an unspeakable tragedy. >> this is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in at least a quarter century. >> right now, we've learned the fire started on the first floor of that building. officials say the death toll could rise. the four people in the hospital are in critical condition. here at home, we're still watching the frigid temperatures outside. we want to get to sheena parveen in the weather center. sheena, a little better than yesterday. not that that's saying that mu

hewitt. more than 100 firefighters responded and were able to rescue one person. 24 they had to bring in medical buses while children sit outside in the cold. other residents had on heavy coats and hats. we have learned the red cross was at the scene to try to help some of the families. >> now a story that's been developing overnight in southeast d.c. police made a gruesome discovery inside a burning car. we have new video of that fire that was taken by a witness at dupont. someone reported the fire after 7:00 last night on ridge road. officers found a body inside. a neighbor says she heard nine to ten gunshots around the time of the fire. now homicide detectives are investigating what happened. two shootings along twous

highways. it may have affected your commute last night. it happened in bladensburg across the d.c. line. a man was found shot along 295. the prince george's county police say the man was found on the shoulder of the road near the exit to eastern avenue. this was just before 6:30 last night. they say the man had been shot at least once. he was in critical condition. investigators are working to identify him and find a suspect as well. now to the other highway shooting. we're learning more about the chain of events on i-95 in stafford county. this crash happened moments after someone shot at police officers. in this story, jackie bensen reports the man accused of pulling his gun is suspected of killing his wife. >> reporter: neighbors tell us that the couple only lived here for a few weeks. they were quiet a

themselves. >> i heard a pop. >> she found out the sound she heard coming from another apartment in fredericksburg around 11:00 a.m., was a gunshot. stafford county deputies found one of her neighbors dead and the woman fled the scene in a black suv. >> we just had new neighbors, only been here two weeks. didn't know anything. to know that it was them is sad. i feel bad for the children. >> minutes after deputies broadcast the lookout for the husband's vehicle, a virginia state trooper spotted the suv north on 95. followed for a few miles. a witness says the suspect then stopped his car and opened fire. he continued along, the witness said, causing more crashes along the way. >> stopped his car in the middle of 95 in the center lane, shot at the officer in the left lane. st

breaking news out of india in the financial capital of mumbai. many killed were women attending a birthday party at a rooftop straub restaurant. it started in a building which houses upscale restaurants and businesses. within 30 minutes, the building is gone. no word on what caused that fire. here at home, it is another cold morning, but our area isn't really getting the worst of it. for example, windchills this morning in parts of massachusetts negative 20 degrees. in erie, pennsylvania, people are still trying to dig out from that record snowfall. that area could get another foot of snow this weekend. even in nashville, many

back on the job after a brush with death. news 4 reveals state records that show a recent string of crashes in which suspected drunk drivers collided with maryland state police. one of those troopers was seriously injured in june. but now he's back on the job. >> in his second year as a maryland state police trooper, he has learned how to navigate routes and the beltway in prince george's county. >> just hope that people stay vigilant. >> on route 4 in june, the other driver was not vigilant, he
