get to the business of shutting off the water. look what it's doing to the road out here. it is so cold out here. any water that gets on the road is completely freezing and making a slushy mess out there. we have to worry about the traffic that comes right here. this is new hampshire avenue at oakview drive. this is inside the beltway as you get off going southbound toward takoma park. this is a major commuter route. southbound one lane is getting by. northbound a couple of lanes get by there. we also have the state highway administration crews out here. they have to salt this area to make sure the water doesn't freeze. they're plowing some of the ice accumulating in this area over the time that the water gets on the roads. this is going to be something that sticks around for quite some time. i'd say we're dealing with it for the entire morning rush. we'll stay out here and keep an eye on everything for you. if you're coming through this area, back to school, back to

of the school here. they've been digging there for some time. now they're able to stand in there and further get closer to the line there looking at trying to identify here. as you mentioned overnight, about 1:00 a.m., a burst water line in the school's basement caused flooding overnight. d.c. water has since turned off water to the school here and here on scene, we have several agencies responding at this time. d.c. fire, washington gas, d.c. water as well as other crews working to get kramer middle school in shape to reopen this week for school. at this moment, school will be closed today for d.c. public schools. however, tomorrow morning the hope is to have the school as close to ready if not fully ready by tomorrow morning and have kids there in a warm and dry school. as you can see, this is a very big effort going on overnight to get ready for the opening of classes tomorrow. live here in southeast, i'm

the live desk. first responders rescued three people in maryland after their car got stuck in the ice. i retweeted some of these pictures from montgomery county fire and rescue. officials say the car crashed into ten mile creek and stalled out in several feet of icy water. look at that. three people were trapped inside. first responders were anyone to get a boat in there and pull them out safely. paramedics say all three were extremely cold. no wonder. the temperature felt like 0 at that time. >> eun? >> chris, thank you. it's now 5:14. we're learning new details about a new year's eve quadruple murder in new jersey. a 16-year-old allegedly shot and killed his parents, his sister and a family friend inside his parents' long branch home. that teen will face a judge today. law enforcement officials say the suspect used a semiautomatic

the teen faces four counts of murder and one count of possession of a weapon. investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting. investigators identified the man responsible for a deadly ambush that killed a sheriff's deputy in colorado. a s.w.a.t. team had to be called in to take down the suspect. several threatening videos by him were found online. zack parish was killed when he responded to a call for a domestic disturbance. yesterday the colorado town gathered to say goodbye to their fallen deputy. >> it means so much to hear your stories. i want to hear about him. and i want to soak it in. >> parrish leaves behind a wife and two small children. four other officers and two civilians re

much information about the man they arrested police say other people were in the home at the time of the stabbing. now to a story that a lot of you have been talking about on nbc washington's facebook page. in maryland, the map you see on the screen tried to convince a runaway girl to engage in prostitution. he was charged with human trafficking of a 16-year-old girl. the girl was from prince george's county and is now back home with her parents. if you have to leave or go to reagan national airport, expect to see traffic backups soon. the airport is building a new security checkpoint between the metro and terminals b and c. that was expected to begin after the new year. transportation reporter adam tuss checked on this but says there's no exact date for that work just yet. this might be the last look you get at some of your favorite redskins players. the redskins cleaned out the

adam is in silver spring where a water main break caused a mess. adam, what are you seeing? >> reporter: this is absolutely a mess out here this morning, eun. let me set the scene for you. this is new hampshire avenue at oakview drive inside the beltway. one lane is getting by southbound. that's the good news. take a look, the water main was right there in the middle of the road. it has caused an icy mess across the street here. the good news is that these crews seem to have located the leak. for a long time, they were looking to try to figure out where the actual leak was. but it has stopped in the middle of the road. you see all the ice that has formed here over the road this morning. this is a very busy commuter route. if we could pan off into the distance, you can see the traffic starting to build quite a bit. coming down through the area. one lane getting by southbound. two lanes are getting by to the north. i have to tell you, a new bl

a fire at a home in annapolis killed six people when the 15-foot christmas tree caught fire. she's a fire safety advocate now and suggests removing christmas trees within 30 days or by january 2nd. montgomery county will take them on your regular recycling day. prince george's county collects trees. arlington and fairfax county will take them on your normal trash day but only the first two weeks of january. tree collection starts january 13th on your regular recycling day. that's a lot of information. put it all in one place. >> that's right. after listening to that story, i usually want to wait to put my christmas tree down. i take them down right after christmas. don't want to risk it. search christmas tree in our app. if you took ak
