deputy attorney general rod rosenstein discussed the house investigation into russian election meddling today with house speaker paul ryan. house intelligence committee chair devin nunes had set a deadline for today for rosenstein to provide information on a dossier about donald trump's alleged ties to russia or be held in contempt. late tonight nunes said his committee will get the requested documents. meantime, in the most direct challenge yet to the special counsel's legal authority, former trump campaign chair paul manafort is suing robert mueller and the justice department. manafort argues that prosecutors overstepped their bounds by charging him with conduct that he says is outside the scope of the russia probe.
11:15 pm
the justice department calls the suit frivolous. fire and fury isn't just the name of an explosive new book on the trump presidency. it's also the response from the white house tonight and the president himself. former chief strategist steve bannon calls the 2016 trump tower meeting between the president's son and a group of russians "treasonous," according to the book. bannon also suggests that special counsel robert mueller's probe is on the right track. the book claims the president demeaned communications director hope hicks in front of her and used a vulgar expletive to describe acting attorney general sally yates. >> i think furious, disgusted would probably certainly fit when you make such outrageous claims and completely false claims against the president, his administration, and his family. >> nbc has not confirmed much of what's in the book, and it appears to rely heavily on bannon, who was fired. tomorrow flip a coin. or in the case of virginia's

94th house district race -- the race in newport news between democrat shelly simons and gop incumbent david yancy will be decide when'd one of their names is drawn from a bowl tomorrow. if yancy wins, republicans will hold a slim majority in the house. if simons wins the house will be evenly divided. it's likely that there will be another recount either way. virginia governor-elect ralph northam thinks he'll be able to work with republicans regardless of who has control of the house. northam sad down for an exclusive interview with news 4's julie cary today. the governor-elect says he's adamant about expanding medicaid, gun control, and decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana. he says it doesn't matter that republicans didn't vote for him. he just wants to unite both parties. >> we have a unique opportunity with the makeup of the legislature this year to i think really bring people from both sides of the aisle and get? good
11:17 pm
>> when the governor-elect is sworn in a week from saturday, he says you can forget him wearing an overcoat. the soon-to-be first lady of virginia says she'll buy him some long underwear to go underneath his tux. >> maybe a couple of pairs. six numbers that could change one or several people's lives tonight. >> $460 million will warm you up pretty quickly in this cold. here are the winning numbers. check your tickets. 2, 18, 37, 39, 42, and the powerball is 12. >> nobody won last night's mega millions drawing. so the jackpot on that lottery game is still growing as we speak. friday night's drawing will now be worth an estimated $418 million. >> wow. so we still have another chance. >> we do. >> so if you don't get snow tonight, you can buy it. have it shipped in. >> you could buy snow for that -- with that much money.
11:18 pm
out. whatever you want to do. >> well, we aren't going to need to ship any out. >> i don't think so. the interesting thing about this, once again, it's going to take this much snow to cause some major issues on the road. we've got that coming in right now. already snowing in parts of our southeastern zone, snowing around fredericksburg, over toward waldorf, and once again i'm seeing pictures from those areas. and it's sticking on the roads immediately, and this is why. once again, we've got a very cold night out there. the current temperature with the snow about to start coming down in the d.c. area, around 30 degrees. those winds out of the east at 8 miles an hour starting to bring in a little bit more moisture. and you notice down to the south our numbers have been dropping in areas like fredericksburg and huntingtown down to 37 now. so everything is falling and dropping the temperatures and stick on the roadways. here's where the winter weather advisory is, frederick county, leesburg, warrington and points to the east. that's the winter weather advisory. now, the winter storm warning includes parts of the northern neck over toward the eastern shore, and then you've gohe
11:19 pm
includes ocean city, rehoboth, and over toward salisbury where not only are they going to see four to eight inches of snow, they're going to see 40 to 50-mile-per-hour winds. but winds are going to be a factor here too. we'll see winds in our area gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour tomorrow. it's going to be a brutal day. here's the radar. and you notice it looks like it's snowing just about everywhere. but the atmosphere is still very, very dry. we call this the donut hole. anytime you see that around the radar site it shows you that it's snowing aloft but as it's coming down it's evaporating. it's not snowing yet in d.c. but starting to. starting to see some snow around waldorf, fredericksburg and points to the south. we talked earlier today about that sharp cutoff. look at that cutoff. snow to the east and nothing back toward the west. that's going to be the case for tomorrow. now, snow coming down heavily around portions of the delmarva. already really heavy now just around the norfolk area. and look at this. you can really see this storm developing. watch right here this line of thunderstorms that developed, almost looks like a hurricane, like the eye of a
11:20 pm
and we do have some lightning. look at this right other there. lightning coming in. we have some thundersnow with this as well as the storm continues to amplify. here's the future weather. timing this out for you. here it is, 11:00, about right. as we move into the 1:00 hour, coming through the d.c. metro area over toward i-95, and then it starts to envelop the entire region mostly east of the blueridge. if you're in winchester, hagersto hagerstown, you're not going to see anything at all. in frederick and leesburg you won't see much either because it's going to move back to the east. by 8:00 still snowing around d.c. that tells you we're going to be in for one heck of a rush hour tomorrow morning before it's all said and done and moves out of here. now, your snowfall forecast. i've updated this a little bit. i've moved it back a little bit. so i think leesburg and frederick, you'll see a little coating up to an inch. i move the one to two into d.c. back toward stafford county around fredericksburg. i move the two to four closer to fredericksburg and into portions of charles county and then you see where the four to eight inches are. wouldn't be surprised if extreme rt
11:21 pm
little more like around four inches too. dwlurz snowfall map for the day. tomorrow heads up. we're seeing a lot of school closings and cancellations. this is why. the roads will become very slick very early tomorrow and that's going to be a big problem. even tomorrow night and into friday. because of the cold we'll see many slick roads, especially those secondary roadways. so give yourself time. and then we see this. look at tomorrow morning. wind chills already in the single digits. but tomorrow night we go below zero, and by friday morning our wind chills, minus 8 d.c., 17 below zero in winchester, with higher gusts we could reach 20 to 25 below. we're going to see a lot of school closings during the day on friday too as a result of the colder air coming on in here. high temperatures on friday and saturday only in the upper teens. we're calling tomorrow, friday, and saturday all weather alert days. guess what? we could have another weather alert day on monday as another storm system mochz in. that one we're going to be watching very closely. could have some ice associated with that one and staying cool into the middle of next week.
