got there. then a strong gust of wind ripped it right off. there was time to cut the gas and electricity to that building before the roof fell. nobody watts hurt. staying in new jersey, following breaking news on a carbon monoxide leak. >> chris lawrence joins us from the live desk with the latest. chris, what's going on. >> sorry. i was looking down at this. paramedics took dozens of people to the hospital. we learned that a 13-year-old girl died from carbon monoxide poisoning. this morning, three of her family members are still in critical condition. all this happened in the middle of thursday's blizzard. there was some sort of leak at an apartment building in pert amboy. doctors treated people for carbon monoxide poisoning, including 27 police officers who responded to the call. i was looking at this. one of the women who lives in the apartment building. she says she wouldn't have even known anything if officers hadn't come to her door. she

let me mention that. they're driving on this ice. looks like a cone got knocked down. we had a water main break on 27th street. as soon as that water came gushing down on to the roadway, it absolutely froze because of the frigid temperatures. take a look here. we have got inches of accumulation of ice. this is here along the curb, the sidewalk. you can look at the road itself. you can see all of the lumps of frozen water here all along the surface. this is going to be with us for hours. they have brought in salt trucks and laid down chemicals. with the temperatures this cold, it just isn't going to do anything at this point. we have a major traffic impact here. the ramp from i-street to 66 west, you can't use that. rock creek parkway is closed in the northbound direction at virginia avenue. you'll be detoured. that's what's happening with these folks here. 27th street closed as well. it's a real mess. avoid the area entirely. back to you guys. >> megan mcgrath live for us.

>> reporter: it is getting busier, aaron. let me tell you this. when you look at the boards, the arrival boards here, you get a sense of how widespread the impact of this storm is. we are seeing several cancellations to reagan from boston, from charleston, from new york and other areas impacted by this storm. and because it's an act of god, that means the airlines did not have to put up those stranded passengers, so many were left to camp out in airports as they awaited their next steps and next flights. this is an issue that we saw from coast to coast, including over at dulles airport where passengers were stranded for a time. some aboard a flight from buenos aires to new york city. they were stuck on the tarmac for hours. their flight was diverted to dulles. we also spoke with one man who said it was just a trying, long experience. and to put it lightly, a lackluster experience. >> it just wasn't right. the pilot wasn'tki
