not still dealing with some of the effects of that weather. in alexandria, george washington middle school is closed. last night a pipe burst in the electrical room and the fire marshall said it's just not safe for kids to be in the school until they get that resolved. all activities in the school and on school grounds are closed. loudoun county courthouse had a pipe burst yesterday. chuck, i've got to tell you, as i read through all of this, i'm glad i'm not in there, in the storm center today, i'm liking my digs just fine. >> then your invitation to come back is withdrawn. how about that? >> until the next bad weather event. >> a little on the chilly side this morning but finally, yes, a couple of days to rest, relax, recoup perfect rate and hopefully get some needed rainfall.

some stretch time. one of our driest winters on record. this morning, plenty cold in some of the sheltered areas. 22 at dulles airport. getting closer to the city, temperatures more in the upper 20s and low 30s. typically chilly. it is, after all, still early january. nothing to complain about like it has been. that's more like it. there's even milder air coming our way. we should be near 60 degrees on friday but that also does come with a rain chance. if you like the cold, it will be back on sunday. we'll show you the whole ten day forecast coming up. thank you, chuck. following several breaking news stories this morning. first, a federal judge has temporarily blocked the trump administration from ending daca. the program protects children who were brought to this country illegally by their parents. blocks them from being deported. they're known as d.r.e.a.m.ers. the ruling requires the department of homeland security to resume accepting renewal applications for people who are already protected under daca.

from the white house. this morning the threat of a tsunami is over for people in puerto rico and other islands in the caribbean. a magnitude 7.6 earthquake hit the cayman islands last night. thankfully no reports of damage. more breaking news. the devastating mudslides in southern california have left 13 people dead, more than two dozen injured. the property damage is massive. it took rescuers six hours yesterday to dig out this 14-year-old girl. take a look at that. imagine how thankful her family has to be this morning. she wasn't seriously injured. she was even able to walk. another rescue effort brought one man to tears. >> we heard a little baby cry g crying. we dug down and found a little baby. we got it out, got the

of its mouth. i'm hoping it's okay. they took it right to the hospital. >> we can understand his emotion. the couple does not know if the baby survived. all of this comes after five inches of rain fell in the burn area of the thomas fire. developing this morning, a tragic end to the search for a missing father. prince gorges county police say someone out for a walk found daniel dehaven last night. he disappeared from the costco. he had dementia. he was found dead in a wooded area of dorsey road near bwi marshall. he may have been picked up around route 1 and dropped off in anne arundel county. they do not expect foul play. right now police are asking for your help in a similar case in d.c. del mar mosley is 81

missing. he was last seen yesterday on 24th street northeast in the woodbridge neighborhood -- woodridge neighborhood. he was wearing a black and white plaid shirt, light blue jeans, black hat and a brown suede jacket. del mar is in the early stages of dementia. he may be in need of medication. if you see him, please call the d.c. police. it is a video a lot of us will never forget. a sunny day practicing for an annual baseball game but today the congressman at the center of that republican baseball shooting will take another step in his recovery. a gunman shot congressman steve scalise last june during that practice in alexandrea. scalise underwent surgery for part of his continuing recovery. he returned to work last september to a thundering appe

he says he plans to stay involved in work but has not said when he will return to capitol hill. today lawmakers get back to work in both maryland and virginia. in virginia governor terry mcauliffe will give his father well address before governor gets sworn in. and in maryland, some lawmakers have outlined a proposal to create an individual health care mandate at the state level. federal lawmakers got rid of it in the republican tax bill. also on the agenda, democrats are pushing to override governor larry hogan's veto on paid sick leave. and the number of licenses to grow medical marijuana. news 4 is working for you with team coverage. julie ken

spent most of the time talking about the winter olympics. north korea will send a team to the games. they also agreed to military talks and to reduce text after north korea's latest missile test. today south korea's president praised president trump and said new sanctions and pressure from the u.s. may have sparked these talks. a monumental fall from grace this morning. steve bannon is once again out of a job. he's stepping down from breitbart news. it comes days after he criticized the president and the first family in an explosive new book, "fire and fury." a source tells nbc news bannon had to either give up being involved in politics or breitbart. he chose politics. president trump also reportedly pressured rebecca mercer to choose between the two of them. this thick black smoke could be seen for miles. it was caused by a fire at a metal

it took hours and dozens of firefighters to get that fire under control. kind of a strange way to start the new year, breaking into a chipotle to grab a snack. it was more than just a little weird for the manager who discovered someone eating in his empty restaurant. news 4's ty collins with a closer look at the bizarre break in. >> police releasing this picture of a man you might know for shredded beef bandit. he ate $60 worth of shredded beef at chipotle. >> he's pretty smart. >> and pretty hungry. >> obviously pretty hungry. >> the capital one arena. new year's day. make that new year's morning. 3:00 a.m. new year's morning, police say a man breaks into chipotle here,

and where's the beef? >> in town you never know what goes on down here. >> reporter: he gets a full tray of barbacoa. sits down at the counter and starts eating. >> he's lucky. >> reporter: 4:00 a.m., more shredded beef. >> i wouldn't go to that extent to get beef but maybe he was really hungry. >> reporter: 5:00 a.m., still choug down. 6:00 a.m. the manager comes to open chipotle. he sees the guy in there eating and says, hey, buddy, we're closed. that shredded beef bandit goes to mcdonald's next door and then disappears before you can say two all beef pattys, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun. >> it's a commercial, not a crime.

now that the holidays are over, a lot of you are starting to get a fresh look at your credit card bills. according to wallet hub, 29% of people say they over spent during the holiday season. overall, 62% of people plan to spend less this year than last. so, are you digging out of debt? join the millions of people trying to do the same thing. because they're deep in the hole, the more your credit score can suffer. this morning, consumer reporter susan hogan is working for you to improve your score by 20 points. >> okay. so the average credit score is around 679, this is according to wallet hub. a lot of people have some room for improvement and you could actually save a lot of money as a result. first, what is your credit score? you can get it for a small fee from the credit bureaus or you can ask your bank. sometimes they will offer it to you for free. knowing what your score is really gives you an

sense of your starting point and enables you to track your progress over time. the best way to improve your credit is to maintain an open credit card account that is in good standing. that means the card will then report positive information to the major credit bureaus each month. if you don't have a credit standing necessary to qualify for a normal credit card, apply for what's called a secured credit card. this is really a great tool for rebuilding damaged credit. don't get close to your credit limit. credit scoring models look at how close you are to being maxed out. keep your balances low. one other thing that will improve your credit score, only apply for the credit you need. if you apply for a lot of credit cards over a short period of time, it may appear to lenders that your financial circumstances have changed for the negative. back to you.
