a gas, water, electricity have been knocked out. among the missing are the brother and father of a 14-year-old girl whose rescue made headlines around the world. officials say right now, 1500 homes are still being threatened by these rain-soaked hills. i'm chris lawrence at the live desk. aaron, back to you. >> chris, thank you. the video that a lot of people are sharing. a 17-year-old calmly describing how she torture and murdered a 15-year-old girl. >> in her own words, venus iraheta says she killed alexandra reyes rivas for revenge. hours after she detailed the brutal murder, our cameras captured her returning home. she told our reporters she had runaway out of fear of the ms-13 gang. we later learned she was the chief attacker in this gang killing. news 4's justin finch is live at the fairfax county courthouse with this chilling

>> reporter: eun, good morning. iraheta told investigators that she was angry, angry because rivas and her boyfriend had some kind of relationship and also angry because she believes that rivas lured her boyfriend to his death. iraheta got a knife and got revenge. looking now at still some cell phone video shown in court on monday. she was staring down rivas, just 15 years old and would die a short time later. now, fairfax prosecutors say that iraheta was among some ten people with ties to ms-13 who were involved in cade napping and attacking rivas about a year ago. news 4 also obtained video of iraheta's interrogation and confession in which she shares disturbing details about rivas' last moments alive. >> how did you kill her? >> with a knife. >> what did you do with the

knife? >> i don't remember how many times i stabbed her in the stomach. >> was it a lot? >> like 13. >> reporter: she coldly details that brutal attack. iraheta is now 18 years old. she's now facing life behind bars and up to 20 more years added to that. live in fairfax, i'm justin finch. news 4. back to you. chilling confession indeed. new video of the brazen jewelry store robbery we told you about earlier in the week. this video was released on sunday. it is second time the high-end store has been robbed in a matter of weeks. someone hurled a rock through the window at benson's jewel remembers on 13th and f streets northwest. the burglar smashed three display cases, grabbed jewelry and ran off. the owner says it could be the same burgl

few days before christmas. this is surveillance video of that break-in. so far, no one has been arrested in either robbery. if you know anything about the case, you're asked to call police. developing now, we're working to learn the name of the man killed in a two-car crash on branch avenue. this happened around 8:00 last nigh. we're told a woman was driving northbound when a man coming off a nearby service road tried to turn left on to branch avenue. he was hit by the driver and later pronounced dead. the woman was taken to the hospital. police have not released the identity of the victim. doctors expect congressman steve scalise to remain in the hospital for several days as he recovers from surgery. the house majority whip had a plan toed -- planned follow-up procedure scheduled. he was nearly killed during the congressional baseball practice shooting in alexandria last june. a bullet to the hip shattered bones and damaged internal organs. 6:07 ri

it's been three nights since actor james franco won a golden globe award and two of the nights have been spent answering sexual conduct questions on late-night shows. >> he was on late night with seth myers last night. the criticism started when he wore a pin to the awards show. several women called him a hypocrite and told their own stories alleging misconduct. >> franco addressed the criticism last night. >> i have my own side of this story. but i believe in these people that have been underrepresented getting their stories out enough that i will hold back things that i could say just because i believe in it that much. >> franco did say that the stories he saw about himself are not accurate but did not get into any more specific detailde. he talked about it on stephen colbert as well. he won

golden globe for his performance in the disaster artist. today, george washington middle school in alexandria will be closed again. tuesday night a pipe broke inside the school. all that water soaked in electrical panels to the point that crews had to turn it off. the water also took out the fire alarm system. students and teachers can't go back to class until workers get the heat and power back on and the fire marshal clears the school to reopen. today a big milestone for the new entertainment and sports arena going up in southeast d.c. construction crews and the mayor, muriel bowser will celebrate a topping out of the arena at the east campus. this signifies that the facility has reached the final construction height. the washington wizards will practice there and be home to the washington mystics and the nba's minor team, the capital city go go. we're helping you get fit for the new year. >> it's 2018. right? >> yep it's here. >> a lot of people looking for

road tried to turn left on to branch. he was hit by the other driver and later died. the woman was taken to the hospital. 6:33. we're following breaking news out of the district. chris? >> yeah, aaron. d.c. police are investigating a deadly shooting. this happened on 24th street and skyland place in southeast d.c. police tell us the victim was shot multiple times in a residential area. this is off good hope road. at this point investigators don't have a shooter. but it's been a deadly start to the new year in the district. >> chris, thank you. it was the sight of four horrific murders that happened nearly three years ago in northwest d.c. >> now the land where the crimes took place is on the housing market. in may of 2015, the family and their housekeeper were murdered inside their woodley park mansion. after the murders, the house was set on fire. someone later bought the home and planned to rebuild this. but now the

the owner just wants to sell the land for $4.5 million. there's one person arrested and charged in the murders. he will go on trial in september. rallies expected at the maryland state legislature when the house tries to override a veto on a paid sick leave bill. the governor vetoed it saying it would hurt small business and cost thousands of jobs. he offered his own paid sick leave bill but they never gave it a vote. if it passes, the state could confirm the override by tomorrow. it would require businesses with more than 15 employees to provide five paid sick days. with companies fewer than a 15 employees, to give five unpaid sick leave. ten miles south into fredericksburg. governor mcauliffe announced it yesterday. they will be working with trans urban to relieve the traffic. the express

by carpoolers. solo riders will pay a fee varied by traffic. >> a lot of drivers had complaints because the fees were racking up to $30, $40. >> i paid it on 95 tollway. it's working in the sense that people are carpooling and trying to find ways around it. they're considering a plan to give riders money back under certain circumstances. >> a board meeting set for later today. megan mcgrath is live from the greenbelt metro station this morning. megan? >> metro makes you late for work and you get your money back. sounds like a good idea perhaps. metro's board later today will take a look at a proposal to do that. they would offer refunds to riders when the trains are running late. before you start counting those refunds, however, there are some rules that apply here. take a look. the refunds would be for delays of 15 minutes

this is iraheta and rivas almost face to face here. rivas would be dead a short time later. a fairfax county prosecutor says that iraheta as many asinine others, many with ms 13 ties, first kidnapped and violently attacked rivas in a park about a year ago. news 4 also obtained this video of iraheta's interrogation and confession in which she shares that she was angry with rivas, angry that her boyfriend and rivas appeared to be close and she believed that rivas brought her boyfriend to his death. she wanted to get revenge here. she was asked about remorse, here's what she had to say. >> does it bother you? what happened? do you think about it? sometimes? doesn't bother you

>> reporter: as you see, not much to say there. iraheta is now 18 years old. she's now facing life in prison here with 20 years added to that. live in fairfax, justin finch. news 4. back to you. >> justin, thank you. it's 6:49. congressman steve scalise is expected to remain in the hospital for several days as he recovers from surgery. the house majority whip had a planned follow-up procedure at med star washington hospital center yesterday. the hospital says the surgery went well and scalise is resting comfortably. he was nearly killed during a congressional baseball practice shooting in alexandria last june. he suffered a bullet to the hip, shattered bones and damaged internal organs. the failed search for a missing man with dementia highlights some of the challenges of taking care of people with neurological problems. his body was found on tuesday in a wooded area near bwi marshall airport. his family released a
