taking flight. ak> good evening, we begin tonight with brg news. for first time, we're hearing from a maryland football coach about the death of one of his players. >> 19-year-old jordan mcnair. mcnair died yesterday, two weeks after he collapsed during a team workout in college park. >> our ericka gonzalez is at the ve desk now with the explanation from school aficials tonight. >> reporter: it w emotional day on campus as members of maryland athletics department we tried to asome of the questions surrounds -- surrounding his death. the offensive lineman collapted a team workout on may 29th. mo was taken to shock trauma center in bale, had a liver transplant on june 6th, and passed awa yesterday. maryland head football coach d.j. durkin choked up talking about mcnair. >> my heart is broken.

will take the field a little bit later on reporter: a beautiful day at the ballpark. the perfect day for a congressional baseball game. the game srts at 7:00, and there are seven innings. this year has special significance because of last year's shooting. last ye, james hodgkinson opened fire on republican lawmakers at their practice in a aria. 22 members of congress were at the field. the shootingh injurede people including representative steve scalise, a lobbyist, and a congressional aide. the congressional baseball game is a bipartisantitradition d back to 1909. it has become a charity fund-raiser. members of congress wear uniforms of their favorite teams. d.c. police ll provide ecurity. the congressional players are expected arrive any time between now and 6:30. now, representative roger williams of texas says that he personally invited president donald trump to come to the game. e white house has not responded to that. we'll have president shows up on his

birthday, by the way. shomari stone, news4. the inspector general for the justice depart released its findings into the clinton mail investigation today. a lengthy report found no indication of political bias co influencd the investigation. that report did fault former fbi director james comey for holding a news conference wi telling doj officials. also found no evidence that former a.g. loretta lynch scussed the investigation during the tarmac meeting with former president bill clinton. the i.g. did find a text between two former fbi officials that it sa t cast a cloud overhe bureau's reputation. the i.g. says it did not impact e outcome. >> it reaffirms the president's suspicions about susan g. komeny's conduct -- about comey's conduct and officials in the fbi. >> comey responded in "the new york times" writing that he

two d.c. police officers being honored after this chaoti scene in adams-morgan. those officers mowed down by the driver of a pickup truck. one officer almost died. it's been a year later. they're talking exclusively to news4's mark seagraves abo their plans to return to the streets they dearly love.

both men were hit fighting for their lives. >> two hours, didn't know if i was going to make it or not. >> reporter: this officer was most seriously injured, nearly 40 broken bones. one o which punctured his heart. >> it's amazing, isn't it? miraculous that thehere today. >> reporter: the truck actually ran over officer duran's leg, crushing it. he still walks with a has yet to return to duty. he and his wife are expecti their third child in a few months. >> it's been tough. it's definitely tough. seeing my wife deal with things i can't do normally around the house. researchers at the american cancer society, harveyard, and the -- harvard, and the national cancer institute collected on more than 12,000 people. the study showed people with higher than recommended blood vels of vitamin particularly women, had a lower risk of developing colorectal cancer. those with a vitamin d deficiency were more likely to be diagnosed with the disease. >> we know a lot about howoro prevent ctal cancer in other ways, as well. maintaining healthy body weight, being physically active, notok g. not drinking a lot of alcohol. >> doctors say more research is needed before taking vitamin d for anything other than bone health. and the sun is not the healthiest way to get vitamin d because of the risk of skin cancer. a former walmart is converted into the nation's largest shelter for migrant children. now reporters are getting a rare
