ripped through an apartment in northwt washington. take a look. this was the scene on our street in the shaw neighborhood around 8:00 last night. fireghters rescued theoman from the ground floor unit of the three-story apartment building. fire officials aren't sure t whether victim's smoke detector was working. the family of a punnce detective wants accountsability for their son's death. the family you see here is suing the officer who shot coleson. that shooting -- the incident happened during a shootout in march of 2016. the officer thought coleson wof onhe suspects even though he had identified himself as a police officer, accorng t the lawsuit. a grand jury declined to indict the officer who shot coleson. according to the county, his family is asking upwards of an external review is underway after the shocking death of a university of maland football player. 19-year-old jordan mcnair died wednesday. he collapsed during a teamworkout two weeks ago. he l had aer transplant on

june 6th. ngw the school is looking into what was g on when mcnair collapsed. university officials want to make sure all o the proper protocols are followed. coming up in just a half hour hear from mcnair's coaches who remember him as a yuck man with a big smile and a big heart. it's 4:04. major change is coming to classrooms in fairfax coun. the school board voted overwhelmingly to change the sex education policy last night. one of the biggest changes will beo include more transgender cu rriculum. the new curriculum will als discuss different types of contraception available to teenage girls. the board also adopted a new dress code policy. news 4's justen finch will have more on when these new policies will go into effect. that's coming up at 5:00.m. breaking news now. a roller coaster has derailedn florida. chris lawrence is at the live desk with the latest on th. chris. >> this is a chilling reminder of just how dangerous some

back here we're following breaking news. right now tropical storm bud is passing over cabo san lucas. take a look at this video fromn mexico sho you some of the dangerous waves being whipped up by the storm. looktht . it's impacting some popular resort cities that attract llions of visitors every year. we spoke with our storm team 4 pert chuck bell abohe storm. he says bud is weakening, but there is a tropical depression in that same area that is expected to strengthen within the next 24 hours. aaron. a maintenan worker accidentally created a potentially deadly gas at a swimming pool in california. you can see a hazmat team had to

decontaminate the area. that poolwi was fille kids when a worker mixed the wrong chemicals. he created a chlorine gas that caused people's lungs to fill with fluid. swimmers said they felt nauseous and were coughing uncontrollably. 35 people most of them children, had to go to the hospital. al of them arexpected to be okay.s itaking place on i part of the lincoln memorial you can't see. crews are busy restoring the memorial's two roof levels, which involvesck repairing c caused by the 2011 earthquake. >> it makes things look more cohesive and clean and tight, but the most important thing is from a water tightness aspect. >> the memorl will remain open while repairs are underway. the work is expected to wrap up sometime in september. an audience member at last
