he was booked into the northern neck regional jail in warsaw, viinia, just before 8:30 last night. manafort originally faced federal conspiracy and money laundering charges. he was in court to answer the new allegations that he tried to tamper with a witness. manafort pleaded not guilty, but the judge ruled that it could go forward and st him to jail this month. not long after, the president tweeted tudge was too tough, and manafort shouldn't be behind bars. later, trump tried to downplay his connection with the man who wasn't ran his presidential campaign. >> paul manafort worked fore for a very short period of time. he worked for many other republicans. worked for me, what, 49 days or something? very short period of time. >> manafort ran the trump campaign for five months. eone of the charges against him are connected to president or to the campaign. manafort's lawyers can appeal the judge's decision, but the chances are slim he'll be outprf on before he goes to trial.

time right now is 33 several hours later, fire crews montgomery county are still battling flames. >> the fire tore through a recycling plant i rockville. news 4's derrick ward joins us from ther live right now. firefighters have been on the sce since yesterday, and there's still some hot spots, derrick? >> reporter: yeah, tindeedre are. this was a paper fire. paper products, rags, this like that. they're brought in bulk here, bundled, and taken off tthe recycled. just beyond that area, the ble to, you might be make out heavy equipment that is moving the loose paper around. spots,hey uncover hot they put watt oer on it. chopper 4 was over the site yesterday. it was a spectacular fire. just about every fire company in montgomery county sent equipment out here at some point between the time the f serted yesterday around 3:30 and toiny.

the van, but the driver took off. the van slammed into police cars and nearly hurt an officer. police hifired their guns, hittg the driver. tectives caught up withhim. he survived the shooting and i out of jail. he's facing charges for trying to hurt a police officer. kevin kamanetz died while campaigning for maryland governor. now the "washington post" reports his campaign funds will go to charities in baltimore county. more than $1.3 million will be split up, with most of it supporting a scholarship fun for baltimore county students. the rest will go to northwest hospit, the maryland zoo, and the hippo foundation. early voting in marylan underway. this week, the sixeang democratic candidates squared off before the primary. it wasoderated by tom sherwood. among the topics discussed was
