breaking news hereli at the desk. in the newsroom we're monitoring protests outside of the red hen estaurant in lexington virginia. take a look at these pictures here. you see at least a dozen people standingn front of the restaurant. we actually saw one man being taken away in handcuffs. police arrested him after he poured something on the buildil. you'll rechis is the restaurant that would not serve the white house press secretary dinner on saturday night. yesterdayan sarars called this kind of harassment unacceptable. this by the way i theirst night the restaurant has been open since saturday. it's normally closed on sundays and mondays. we'll keep an eye on thatound let know if anything develops. getting a ride through a program like uber or lyft is about to become more expensive. today they increased a tax increase. itill jump from 1% to 6%.

explain this process. john, how and why are searchers using this polio virus against brain cancer? >> jim, it's exactly like you id. what they're using is a polio virus, but it's a weakened virus. they're taking the virus andin pu a rhino virus which likes these type of tumor cells. this virus kometimesls the tumor, but more importantly it opens up the tumor so themm ie system can see it and the immune system can attack it. it helps not only with the tumor itself but the rest of the body where theht tumor m have gone. these patients have really extended their life expetancy beca of this treatment. >> it worked well this whole process did. what couldn it m for people like senator john mccain? >> it worked well tohe point where these people typically have incurable cancers or tcancers that have beenen care of and then they end up coming back. they're very, very hard to treat. normally onl 4% would be alive

in three years. in the small group 21% were alive in three years. it might not seem like much, but it's a lot better. four chances being alive versus e ones who didn't get treatment. for john mccain, if he's able to get ts kind of treatment, it might help get him to the point where he can live years longer, but not everyone benefits. the ones that did benefited very well. >> john, why polio and are there other viruss that could work here? could this ever be used for breast cancer, ovarian cancer? >> rht now duke yfuniversity is going to start clinical trials on breastnd cancer melanoma with the same trials. they can get in there and change it easily. when they change it, they can make it so it attacks those specificcells. you only want to attack the cancer. it does that and opens up the cancer so the immune system can see it. that's why they're using the polio virus. >> fascinating and exciting.

a look now at some op our other stories. the supreme court is upholding the latest version of therump administration's travel ban ruling that the ability to regulate immigration falls within the president's powers. that policy restricts from five muslim-majority nations. it also adds limits for north korea and venezuela. vandals have targeted a church in fairfax county for the sev seventh time in just over a month. the break-ins started with smashing windo in the basement escalatedings have they include messages of hate sprayed behind the sanctuary. shthey all sla all of the cushions on the pews and smashed the prayer candles. d.c. is boosting taxes on uber and lyft. rides they voted to increase the tax from 1% to 6% meaning that $10 ride would cost you about 50 cents m than it does now. the extra money is going to help many of the metro repairs.
