montgomery county and parts of loudon count not only am i tracking storms in the weather center with lauren, we're also tracking the hottest day so far this year with high of 97 and earlier we had a heat index of 1 so. you can seeght now we're looking at a ra cooled 75 in gaithersburg. that won't last long though. the heat andumity will shoot right back up from any brief relief that thetorms provide if you even get one. 105 in washington and 100 degrees in manassas and11 in culpepper. the heat is so serious that the national weather service has actually issued an excessive heat warning for the areas here in pith. this i d.c. and baltimore metro areas. this is going to go until 8:00 tonight. the areas here in orange are under a heat advisory that runs until 8:00 p.m. the excessive heat with first one so far this year and will be under that for another four hours. take that easy outdoors as folks

that cool relief? that wasfohe reality a lot of folks here in delray. in fact, at one point today i noticed some cars running along dential street. i looked inside and there were some residents. a place where they could go inp ower up the engine and crank up the ac. dom wion energy crewsrked in the heat and humidity urgently trying to get this tangled mess of power lines straighted out. a major cleanup effort here in alexandria, all talf sparked by a passing truck. dominion says the truck hit lines causing them to come crashing down. at one point today their online outage map showed the aftermath. nearly 7,000 customers without power. without ac and on one of the hottest days of the year. >> it's horrible. >> feels like 108. >> reporter: el enepstein runs a pet care business and worried about her client's pet left in a hot home. she even brought one of them
