water out of the foded cave. we'll talk to one of the american divers helping the thai navy and rescue effort. but first correspondent bill neely is at the cave with the very latest. hey, bill, good morning. >> reporter: good morning,>> ho. if the risks to the boys weren't clear hoenough, they've been underlined overnight by the death of the tough navy diver. two of his colleags that i spoke to said they were shocked and a little bit afraid now. but they said we won't stop, we on't let hisacrifice go to waste. meanwhile, way down underground threat.oys face a new it is now a potential death trap. these images filmed just hours before ail diver died show the challenges they and the 12 boys face. fast flowing water often at head height, narrow passages, many

completely submerged. local div saman gunn was delivering oxygenut tanks he didn't have enough of his own and collapsed on the way out. like most men he was experienced. if hee died, what about these boys? the, youngest just 11. none of them can swim, getting diving lessons now for a six-hour tre through a death trap. o had birthdays this week but there are noeb ctions here. and officials say there is now a new threat to them. from the very people trying to save them. there are now so many divers in the caves,n that oxy levels in the boys' cave are falling. so a three-mile line oxygen line is being rushed in along with power and phone cables. american divers are now in the thick of it. partrt of a team of 30 and glob rescue effort the whole nrld is watching.

commanders here a convinced they just can't risk keeping the boys downhere for weeks. the death of the diver, they say, has convinced them they need to be even more cautious when they move to get the boys out. >> translator: we can't wait for perfect conditions, he said. time is running out. >> what thoughts are going owthrough your head after what happened last night and knowing what you do about the condions down there? >> well i'm somebody died in there but i'm still positive. i think we can do a difference. >> reporter: this is what lies ahead for the boys. in's hard to imagine a weakened 11-year-old wad through this for six hours. the divers pray. they know t risks and the monsoon rains are coming tomorrow to turn this into a raging torrent. well the boys themselves sarll 't at full strength.

have to drill down over the top of the chamber to take them out that way. >> would it take hours to get through if you were to go through the dive? would it make minutes? how long would it tak >>really, it is longer going in than it would be to come out. because when the divers -- from the team i was on were going in, they were pulling themselves and the water is pushing against them so they are pulling themselves in. and just -- i'll give you an example, a short distance they laid the line going in a coue kundred meters or so and it t threee hours to lay the line an took them 15 minutesome out. so where they're at, the flow would be pushing them out. ee it isis been, as you know, nearly two now since the rescue operation itself started. are folks on the ground still aa optimistic we'll be able to get the boys out of that cave alive with their coach? > i have never seen moreeo
