ontgomery county are among the spots. here with an inside look what it's like to have amazon come to your city. thank you for coming to the studio today. seattle is the home ofamazon's first headquarters. and many people wonder how it changed seattle. did it change seattle? >> trendously. it's made the city much more dense. theee s life has just burgeoned. the number of employees from amazon over the last seven years has grown from 5,000 to 45,000. those jobs and amazon's needs have created another $50,000 jobs or more. all this in the center of the city of seattle. so the street life is up. the tech cultures teaming. the restaurant scene has and yeah, it is really changed it. >> so it's done exactly wha t peopught it would do. i's pumped life into the city's life. has. and seattle and already a very lively city. and already has microsoft.

>> a double edged sword there of dourse. people who n affordable housing. >> right. >> so all those folks who got those jobs needed places to live. so t m jobket obviously boomed. >> it is a tremendous job market. yes. and amazon in seattle despite all its growth continues to have thousands of new jobs that they are hiring for that they are advertising for. andhis sort of search for talent and yet infrastructure that can handle it is the reason they are seeking another headquarters in another city. >> sticking again with the theme of density. traffic. density means traffic. >> it used to be in seattle people talked about the in, which happens very very often. now they talk about the traffic which, happensco tantly. >> okay. >> and there is a statistic that i saw the other day, tha mega commuters, people who take more than 9 minutes to drive to work one way, have -- seattle has become the number three city for
11:36 am
mega commuters and that number has gone up like 70% the last five years. >> so the city has really, you life.it's come to pumped a lot of dollars into the economy. lot of people have moved there. they have jobs. they are doing well. but is there -- and traffic is bad. but is there a positive tradeoff in terms ofhat amazon brings to the community? does amazon work in the community? give back to the community? >> well any group of smart people is going to plug into various institutions in the city. i kno amazon employees who are actors in local community thter, for instance. and are on non profit boards. i think corporately the corporate citizen. amazon has been a bit slow to sort of be a leader in, you know, sponsoring major city events. t that's -- but that's -- that's rising some.th e is a seattle international film festival.
