suspect information. rhode island avenue is opened in both directions through fourth street. expect to see flashing lights. you may lose a lane inbound on rhode island avenue until the scene is clear. if you're coming down 4thre , you can't go farther than bryant, until you reach rhode island and work youray around. the homicide about 3:47 this morning at the intersection of 4th and adams northeast. that's where live, derrick ward, news 4. back to you. >> derrick, thank you. 32 reported tornadoesst in day. >> this morning, seeing incredible and scary video from the storms. chris lawrence is at the live desk. >> se of theneighborhoods, witnesses watched homes being torn to shreds. we know a tornado touched down about 40 miles outside of des moinmo es. yesterday, a flurry of tornadoes swept through iowa, bringing hail and rain with them. dozen people are injured and flattened buildings in three cities. the storm forced officials to

evacuate patients from a hospital. the tornado hit the town o pella, while a farm equipment plant was filled with dealers and customers celebrating the 70th anniversary. some of them were injured but none of them seriously. the company has activated its storm warning system. thousakes of w were in shelters at the time the storm > hit. 6:04. more breaking news in the line of storms. officials in branson, missouri, say 11 people are confirmed dead now. the tour boat they were on yesterday capsized and sank. we received cell phone video of that ordeal. >> oh, my god. oh, my god. >> this video was shot by people in a restaurant nearby the water there. they couldn't do anything to help. officials say 30 people were on that boat and five are still missing. our affiliate in branson says

there were life jackets on the boat but it does not appear any rider had one on. investigators will be back on the scene tod to search for e people still missing. officials of the boat company ride the duc branson issued a statement saying, they are deeply saddened by the tragic stcident and will continue to do all they can to ashe families and authorities. the statement goes on to say that the safety of the guests and employees is tir number one priority. new details this morning about d.c.'s recent spike in overdoses. the medical examiner says the drug at the center of all of this is new type of k2, a ju synthetic maria. it has a chemical combinatn that hasn't been seen before. volunteers spent yesterday, going door-to-door, handing out flyers and warning people to stay away from the drug. there's beenore than 100 overdose calls just since saturday. that's about the same number of overdo calls taken for all of july last year. the medical examiner says people should take the warning seriouy.

train w with her friend.ong our sister station, ndo, returned to the tracks with her family. they left flowers ansaid prayers for both women. a family friend said the women were probably on the tracks because they wanted to record ci something for media. police have not confirmed that report. many of you followed the live reports of a live shooter at a washington hospital. >> the report sent patients and staff at mid star washington hospital center intore a fnzy wednesday morning. this is after a man threatened to shoot doctors. there was a verbal thr st and no actioter. police locked down four buildings and swept the entire campus. security experts say hospitals have a particular reason to be on high alert. >> hospitals are a gh-risk environment for an impulse of threatening of violence. for threating behavior that might turn into mass shooting,

you're watching "news 4 today." >> a first of its kind is getting ready to on just a few months from now right here in d.c. starbucks says it's launching its first-ever signing store at 6th and 8th streets near gallaudet university. the company plans to hire 20 or 25 deaf or hard of hearing employees who are proficient in american sign language. they'll have aprons including starbucks spelled out in asl. others will have pins that read, "i sign." starbucks got the idea from a similar shop in kuala lumpur that opened in 2016. i think that's awesome. what a service. and if you don't nee sign language communique, you can be there and be a part of that community. >> learn a lot.
