dies in the line of duty. the family he was trying to save is speaking out. another shooting in the same neighborhood. we're hearing from the police chief. good evening, first to that breaking news, days of torrential rain claiming a woman's life tonight in northern virginia. snow the ground is absolutely soaked and that made it's easier for a tree toall on a house in burke tonit, killing someo inside. we have coverage to even more rain ahead for us. >> to shomastone, live in burke. what have you learned there? >> reporter: moments ago we spoke to the battalion chief. he said it is incredibly rare, a tree crashing throu ahome, killing a woman inside.

let me move out of the way. there is a team tryingo stabilize this home before they go inside. let's roll video. this started around 8:45 tonight. the 60 foot tall tree, 2 to 3 feet in diameter, fell and the husband survived. qllie bailey said the tree has crushed arter of the home on the second firor. 45ighters responded. the woman's body is still inside the home. the tree is there. they have t stabilize the home, remove the tree, the body. the husbandol is aely devastated as i'm sure you can understand. will now here fromhe battalion chief. this is rare for us to run but with all the rain, things of that nature, the roots of these treee really loosened up.

in baltimore and pennsylvania, they had a ton of rain. this line has been going on for we are in a little bit of dry spell, back to the northwest. look at this. look what's coming down the northern end. this will move through poftions outhern maryland into the d.c. metro area. i expect more heavy rain tonight and into the day tomorrow and why we have this flatcflood until 2:00 a.m. tomorrow night, through 2:00 a.m. wednesday morning we can see anywhere from 2 to possibly 5 inches of rain and some locations even more. i'll take you hour-by-hour. >> is too much. thank you, doug. one place where they're watchino ow's forecast closely is ederick, maryland. the city and county had significant flooding back in may. jackie found they're still trying to recover from that. now, they're expecting the river to overflow its banksengain.

baltimore county in the pennsylvania area. extremely heavy rainfall and flash flood watches. a coupl of showers as we zoom in. one shower about to come in over fairfax right now. a couple more in washington county and frederick county. here's the area i'm watching towards the south. shenandoah valley seeingeavy rain. i'm watching this area right here has lightning and thunder associated with it, too. very hvy rainfall that will move to southern maryland and possibly eastern shore and move back to d.c. and baltimore again. watch out software southern maryland to i-95. i think thi could be a big issue over the next couple of hours because they have seen so much rain. flashflood watch in effect for everyone until 2:00 a.m. wednesday morning. how much more rain? maybe 2 1/2 more inches. already seen 8 1/2 in washington the last week, 2-5 inches or
