california. the death toll fromvehe mas carr fire is climbing. it exploded over the weekend. and it is only one of nearly two dozen major fires now ripping through the state. nbc's miguel almaguer is inin re california, for us. he's right there. good morning. >> savannah, good mowhing. that massive fire blew through this neighborhood, firefighters weren't trying to save homes. they were trying to save lives. they were focused on evacuations, but six people did not make it out. now this is all that's left. charredremains of people's lives. this is what used to be a boat. it looks like this block after block. the most destructive fire torching california becoming one of the most devastating in history. the carr fire damaging or destroying more than 1,000 structures, mosy homes. incineratedhborhoods in just minutes. >> wasn't just our place. it was all of our family, our friends, all of our

mueller. udy president's attorney, giuliani, also going on the offensive. nbc white house correspondekr ten welker has the very latest. good morning. >> hey, good morning to you. and thig, morn president trump is lobbing some of his most direct attacks yet against special counsel robert mueller and it's a one-two punch his lawyer lashing out at mr. trump's former attorney, michael cohen. rudy giuliani questioning the authenticity of that tape le ed by cohen, and taking aim at cohen's credibility. president trump ignoring shouted questions sunday, but unleashing a barrage oftweets, now calling the special counsel investigation an illegal scam and calling out t head of it by name. tweeting, is robert going to release his conflicts of interest with respect to president trump? includin the fact that we had a very nasty and contentious business relationship. mr. trump has accused mueller of conflicts in the past. and while the special counsel declined to comment, deputy

flights all across the country. passengers who have no crimina history and are not on any terror watch list. but have still raised red flags. with air marshals watching their every move, even sitti next to them onboard. the boston globe's jenna winter broke the >>story. his means they write down, are you talking on the phone, what are you saying, do you have a computer, are you reading something, are you going to the bathroom, are you looking in a weird direction. do you change your clothes on the plane or at the airport? >> the information then sento tsa headquarters. in a statement, the tsa says the primary purpose of the pract is to make sure psengers and flight crew are protected on air travel. passengers are selected for surveillance if their foreign travel and otherai factors r concerns, including criminal records, curious financial transactions, e-mail or phonet numbers tould be tied to terrorism. we recently talked to the iea about the air marshals. >> we keep their presence covert

air. >> black tank top. >> the man t whourned out to be blevinsnas sitting the street corner with his dog, a speaking woman standing next to him with a a baby in stroller. as the officers pull up to t curb, blevins stands up andng starts run away. the officers jumput of their vehicle and begin chasing blevins, repeatedly warning him to p his hands up in a second body cam video,bl evins can be heard pleading with oicers not to shoot him. >> put your hands up. >> a third video of the incident slowed down and stabilized by a california forensic video firm hired byol the minne police department appears to show a gun in blevins' pants and in his hand, shortly before more than a dozen shots were fired, killing him. the death of blevins, who is black, at the handse of wh officers sparked tensions keroughout minneapolis, which has been rocd by a number of high-profile fatal police shootings in rent years.

she never lets me do ithis. haven't been able to do this for months. it's so rare at that age for them to sit still and for mommy to hold you. >> yeah, so i held her. and then about an hour later, she woke up. and saw she was in chuck e. cheese and was so excited. >> after an afternoon of visiting friends and grand parents, morgan and emmy returned home to say good-bye to bode who was getting ready to take his oldest daughte toer softball game. ? he was loading up thear and i gave him a kiss. out of nowhere, she leanedf ov and m another kiss. we were so amused by her reaction because it was notty cal of emmy. so i kissed him again, and she did it agn, and we laughed. i turned around and walked inside. waved.e and said bye to her dad. >> morgan decided to bring tex kids door to visit the

neighbors. >> we go er, back and forth multiple times a week. they're family tous. and it was just a normal day over there. we sat on the sofa and she played in frontus of and i had my cup of tea. and the boys were right next to us. in the downstairs guest bedroom, playing on the ipad, playing outh toys. and emmy go back and forth, which was all of 15 feet. all o a sudden, it was too quiet for me. we were midconversation and i stood up. and i turned and i walked right do where the boys were and said where is emmy? and before ne could respond, i turned around and the door that leads to the back rd, that was closed, had a tiny sliver of light coming thou the side. and mysaeart .

and i opened the door, and she was floating in the pool. and i ran and i jumped in. >> morgan pulled emmy out ofhe water and started cpr while her neighbor called 91 i >> whats the emergency? >> she fell in the pool. the baby fell in the pool. >> shortly after, bod got the call he will never forget. >> i was at the softball so i was hearing all this through the phone when they were doing cp and in the ambulance and all that. and just, youknow, in shock. >> must have felt so helpless. >> yeah, yeah. >> doctors first told the millers they had reason to hope emmy might survive, but the next ndy, , june 10th, they lost their precious baby girl. >> theocr said that her brain had just not had enough ox oen for too long a time. >> there's not a day that goes by that i don't pray for the

opportunity to go back to that day and make it different. but now we have this opportunity to make other parents' days different. >> in their grief, the millersy learned t aren't alone. drowning is the leading cause on tentional death for children 1 to 4 years old. >> the number one way could potentially lose your kid. if it's number one for me, i want t know about it. >> do you feel like this is somethinghat pediatricians or the medical community or public health community, have we not been paying enough attention to this? >> definitely, the yintensit behind this conversation is where we are lacking. this should behe number one thing that we talk about. you need to be hyperaware. >> iave been to all the pediatricians meetings, and check-ups on our kids, and i can't say it's ce up one time, not a single time. >> bode and morgan say drowningn

preventi protective barriers around pools are key when it com to water safety. before they moved into their home with a pool, they did just tat. training their two older boys before emmy was born, and blocking easy access to their pool with a fence. you are very careful parents. >> i tnk we did the best with the knowledge that we had. >> and the realityis, as a parent, you can't dodge responsibility for your kids. you know, that part is probably the single most difficult part to get >> and guilt is a very painful thing. i hope and pray and beg that it gets easier. >> they move forhrd now w a mission. to encourage others to be more vigila and honor the memory of their dearemmy. they say their three other children are guiding them through their darkest days. >> when they talk about her, and they share stories, they always have a smile on their face.
