>> thanks for joining us for "news 4 today." fire insid a row home on newcombe street. >> chris lawrence at the live desk with what we know about this. >> four people have been left without a home.ai want to get st to some pictures showing how that heavy fire was knocked out. it's a three-story row house between other homes. the residentsay haveeen asleep when it started. and firefighters hadus to the windows to get them out. the fire started in the first floor and it engulfed other homes from there. this could have been a lot worse. no word on the cause of the fire, but here's a look at where itst started in south d.c. newcombe street on 2nd. no one has been injured. the red cross has been called in, with the residents, called for ala to live. we're keeping an eye on the commute and the forecast.

rain andan thunderstorms be heavier today and especially late tonight. more about that weekend sunshine chance coming up. jack taylor, how is the friday morning commute? >> we start things off. crews were ableo do wor overnight. they were on the outer loop by connecticut avenue. crews are working and two left lanes are getting by. on 395, headed noghbound. a l couple of work zones between duke and king street, blocking a left lane. not causing a slowdown early. 95 in virginia, headed nortound after the center park parkway. right lane getting by. justearing of a crash in maryland on i-95 southbound, route 32. blocking the left half of the roadway. this can cause delays. hopefully it's minor inur n and they can move it quickly. we're sta tng on of the breaking news about a missing 12-year-old girl missing from china. >> she has been missing for nearly 24 hours.

hair. >> the woman is five feetall and wearing a black dress. now, to breaking news out of virginia, evacuationsn lynchburg as a dam may fail. chris lawrence at the live desk. what's happening? >> we're talking about the possibility of 17 feet of water in a matter of minutes. look at your screen. all of the rain that the area has seen in f the past weeks has overwhelmed the college lake dam. and people who live near there have been told to get out. the e.c. glass high school auditorium is aheter for those forced to thacuate. e's no evacuations at the university of lynchburg.e school is not downstream of the dam. if there's a complete failure, wtheer depth in lynchburg could exceed 17 feet in jt 7 minutes. we checked with storm team 4's chuck bell and lynchburg

employee set al's country kitchen on fire on purpose. prince george's county police say she was recently f firedm al's. 100 firefighters battled the flames that ripped through that well-known diner yesterday morng. it was three-alarm fire that spread to nearby businesses. residents w lived before the restaurant had to evacuate. a murder mystery in northern virginia. a gunman walked into a home in arizona avenue in woodbridge and shot a man toh. de as many as ten people live in the home where the shooting happened. the roommates are cooperating with detectives. we're learning about the scare that shut down streets around the capital. they found a vehicle with a gun police arrested a 23-year-old

which is the enemy of the people. federalon prosecutorsnue to build their case against former trump campaign chair paul manafort. mo witnesses were called to the stand, detailing manafort's lavish lifestyle. we learned that rick gates will testify against him. prosecutors told the judge they have every intention of calling gates too the stand. manafort is facingrial for tax evasion and money laundering. his lawyerslamed gates during opening statements. gates pleaded guiltyarlier this year. testimony will resume at 9:30. urban meyer could be fired by ohio state over what he allegedly knew but did not report. meyer said he was unaware of several instance nedomestic abuse of one of his assistant coaches. the wife of that coach saidth 's not true. meyer's contract tells him to
