it felt like two weeks of nonstop rain. it's made gting around ugh. but it's also led to an increase in the mosquito population, and it's this morning raising concerns about the west nile virus. >>hat's right. ris gordan has more on how fairfax county is trying to control the mosquito population. >> reporter: these lab techni protect us from mosquitos that transmit the west nile disease which be deadly. from april until october they're busy here at the fairfax county health department's mquito lab. they're looking for mosquitos

infected with the virus that can transmit the disease. their numbers are growing because ofhe recent rains. meaning that there is that potential for more increased west nile virus activity. the work to find infected mosquitos starts by setting up traps parks, at storm water management facilitieser and w sheds. on the average there have been four cases eachf year west nile disease throughout the county over the past few years. now, the current patient is from the northea portion of th county. >> we did a recent analysis and found that having a case in a particular area of the county was predictive of having a second or third or fourth case in that same area. >> reporter: he says to avoid mosquito bites use mosquito repellant. wear long pants and long sleeves to cer exposed skin. and avoid areas where mosquitos are common during break biting times at dusk and dawn. are you getting bit a lot?

providing new information every five minutes. add intrigue and mystery to one of d.c.'s highest profile murder cases. attorneys for the man accuse the th the murders will argue someone else killefamily and their housekeeper in 2015. a judge ruled that not only is that evidence permissible but that the defense team does not need to present it to the prosecution before the trial begins on september 5th. prosecutors say dna evidence cases went inside the home. the jury will have to decide if he's gui or not. a 22-year-old died in a home on arizona avenue. police are l release the man's name once they let his family know. he knew his victim. it is not clear what l up to the shooting or why the man was shot.

in plain ght. >> this is the first big mural in loudoun i've done. >> reporter: this artist lives in richmond. for a month he and two others have been working on a huge five panel mural at one loudoun. many of you who visit o loudoun won't even see the artwork unless you know where to look. this is the side of the alamo draft house cinema most of us see. you have to go around back if you want to find the mural. >> it's really bizarre. as a muralist, i spend a lotme painting murals that are right in front of people and that have really good visual im mct. i've be the longest worked on a mural for such a small amount of people to see, and the neatest thing is what's been so positive and wonderful about this whole experience is i-met almost everybody that's going to be livin finnt of my mural. and i've had conversations about why i was painting it and the themes about it, and why i was using certain colors.

what it was like to come back after growing up in loudoun. >> the muralelebrates the old and the new right here in loudoun county. w >> i reallyted to create a mural that celebrated old ingenuity and old ideals and how it's turned into something new. i picked theashington and old dominion rail line. a kid i used to see the remnants of the old li. and then i was interested in the story. i think the story line is indicative ofhat's happening in loudoun. you had a very rural area that ha had development and such an immediate growth pattern that it was inevitable that a lot of things were going to change. >> on mine i took the idea of nature, the eagle, and the plane and combined them. >> to be honest, when the murals, we're creating stories. and they're just little loimage images of people's lives. and it's transient.
