violence like what we saw in charlottesville one year ago. like you , only a couple of dozen people actually turned out for the unite the right rally, but there were so many more counterproamsters who chere to fight a message of hate. demonstrators took over freedom plaza long before the unite tri ght rally came to town. >> they're not going to put fear in our hearts. >> reporter: they far outnumbered the couple of dozen ite supremacists who did show upor the rally at lafayette square. the protesters also marched to lafayette square in a showf force against hate. e protesters and white supremacists could see each other but were sep aated by polind barriers. >> shame! shame! >> reporter: the mayor and chief of police called the city's response a ccess.

someone in the face. when they took him into custody, they say they found a slingshot, stones, large shards of glass, and bolts in his possession.er a, back to you? >> darcy, thank you. our team coverage continues now. while w tte supremacists didn't clash with anybody, there were some tense moments today. some counterprotesters, including some who identify as anti-fascist or antifa, did clash with police. news4'sha mark segraves has t angle of the story. >> reporter: there were tense e momentsn before the small ayp of white supremacists arrived at lafte square. as the unite t right leader jason kessler and about 15 of his supporters walked from foggy bottom metro to the white house, they were followed and harassed by a large group of counterprotesters. d.c. police formed a gauntlet to escort the group the eight blocks through the city. thousas of counterprotesters showed up today. the vast majority obeying police

county but all of the circles you're seeing are storm reports from earlier today, and a l them south of washington. this was just one strong moved through at the area, generally from west to east. and each of these sigeifying er wind damage, flooding issues, or hail that at one asnt was reportedly as lar half of an inch. so very large hail and a lot of damage in parts of culpeper, ororge, and sta counties out there tonight. thankfully no thunderstorms are storm team4 radar right now. just a few isolated showers out there. from those storms earlier that impacted areas s mainlyth of tracking ict, still frac flood warns for parts of culpeper, all of stafford more rain in the forecast tomorrow. i'll have the latest timing coming up. new at 11:00, police inor prince 's county need help solving a deadly assault. this afrnoon, a m was assaulted on boon's hill road in capital heights. this happened about 3:30.

nbc'san dan schenith new details on the deadly flight and the security gap at the nation's airports. >> reporter: investigators scoured the tiny, srsely populated island where richard russell's flight came to an end. friday night, a pair of fighter planes were launcheer a russell, an airport baggage handler, managed to steal a passenger plane parked in a maintenance area at seattle's sea-tac airport. he navigated the plane across the tarmac and onto a runway. the flight lasted5 minutes before he died in a fiery crash. russell had the same broad security access tha thousands of ramp workers and mechanics have. it's a potential security gap at the nation's airports. >> we're fortunate in the sense that it wasn't a terr wist, somebo was focused on causing mass destruction. >> reporter: friends and family of russell were left stunned. they described russell, nicknamed bibo, as a man with a great many friends and strong faith. >> it may seem difficult for

again tomorrow and plenty of cloudiness herwise. ontuesday, it's dry for the morning and midday hours but as the day wears on, we'll start to notice some showers and thunderstorms movingthrough. it's finally completely dry out there wednesday and thursay, but i looking hot with high temperatures around 90 degrees. here's the latest on storm team4 radar. i'm tracking a few scattered light showers out there. otherwise plenty of clouds. unfortunately because of all the oudiness, we're not able to see the meteor showe which is peaking tonights. if you do get some breaks in the clouds and you're up, you might want to see if you can see a meteor tonight. look at what i'm talking about. 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. the white he are the clouds and some patchy fog out there too. mainly dry but maybe an isolated shower out there. as we move toward 8:00 a.m., a ifew morelated showers. don't necessarily look at the exact placement but just the fact s we're going to some rain around. as we move toward lunchtime, we start to s a little more in the way of rain but still dry spots out there. some peeks of sunshine start to
