at bedside in what could be her final hours. in about 20 minutes, scott evans from "access hollywood" will share some special memories of aretha franklin. we all have some memories of her, don't we? right now detectives say they believe they have the man who could be responsible for more than a dozenex crimes. now, these are the spots where they happened in nthern virginia as you see here, but there were actually more crime scenes in d.c. as well. news 4's mar segraves is live in arlington with more on this story. mark, how did they get this guy? >> reporter: good old-fashioned police work, leon. two d.c. police officers who h a lookout description, a very vague description of a man. when they saw someone who fit that description he happened to be sneing up behind a woman who they think he was getting ready to attack. that's when they intervened and he ran off. police say he is now --e' been charged in five separate cases in maryland and virginia and d.c.

they say he's a so apect in at least a dozen more cases, including three cases happened right here in this one block here of clarendon boulevard. since 2016 police in the district and virginia have been investigating incidents where a man would sneak up behind women, expose himse and sometimes try to grab the women in their private areas. >> horrendous and disgusting. it's very good to get a predator like that off the street. >> reporter: police arrested 34ear-old santiago campos after two d.c. police officers sneakingim as he w up on a woman wearing a mask. after police caught him, they we able to get his dna which matched several open cases in d.c. and arlington. now, he's been charged with four sexual asslt cases. two in d.c. from 2016 and two from this year. he's also been charged with one case in arlington from 2017,

arlington county police say he's a suspect in at least nine other cases. >> obviously this is somebody behavioreen doing this for a long time. in addition to our detectives reviewing this, we're asking the public to come forward if they have any information about the activities oe mr. camp p so we can investigate them. poce both in c. and virginia say his m.o. was the same. he would look for women in isolated areas where there's noc surveillanceera and no other people around, and then he would act af he was doing something else, perhaps getting in a car, and as they would walk by him, that's when he would come up behind him. they are asking the public inr d.c. virginia if they know this man or think they know something about this case togi police a call. leon, pat, back to you guys. >> thank you, mark. >> all right. just last month a was caught an camera sexually assaulting a woman in d.c. in a separate case. chilling footage shows him following the victim outside of a foggy bottom apartment

building. she was walking out of the building on i street near new hampshire avenue when a man approached her from trhind and d to take her clothes off. they released these images hoping someone can tell them who the man is. an update on this terrible bus crash we talked about earlier. some 50 people were on board. they were headed to an overnight trip from ud.c. to new jersey, and the bus slammed into an overpass at newark's penn station. the impact sheered off the back end of the bus. we've learned all victims should recover from their injuries. liberty coach operates the bus involved in the accident, and so far no comment from that company. students want to make sure their safety is a top priority for lawmakers who r the country. about 25 students staged a die-in today on capitol hill.ed they prote near the offices of prominent republican senators. the group is demanding immediate changes to federal gun ws, and they say their concern goes

beyond protecting their federal students. it' not just about school shootings. it's about the gun violence that happenevery day that's not a mass shooting. there's inner city gun violence and domestic abusend there's suicide and so many cases that's just more than school shootings and mass shootings. obviously i hope there's a renewed urgencyet but l not focus is just on schools. >> the students are planning another protest on capitol hill in november. now to new questions about how metro handled demonstrators re for yesterday's white supremacist or unite the righty ra today some are saying metro wound up doing exactly what it said it would not do. news 4's darcy spenc has been asking questions and is joining ys live from foggy bottom with the v latest. darcy? >> well, leon. many people are asking the question did metro give special treatment to this group of white nationalists heror the unite the right rally by essentially giving tm their own train car

when they got on the metro at vienna and got off here at the foggy bottomti s. that's what they said before the rally that they were not going to do. in some critics are taking it a step further and say that feel misled by metro. now, news 4 was there as jas kesler and his croup associated with the unite the right rally was escorted by metro transit police through the station and on to a train car. now, police say they were trying to prevent violence esterday like what we've -- [ no audio ] a d.c. down member has said they feel very frustrated. >> last night like every other resident that had the expectation that these far right folks would not be given speciat accommns, special cars, i -- i felt misled and very frustrated. i'm still frustrated at the -- at the poor communication.

he had an affair. today strzok's lawyer says the firing should be deeply troubling to americans because none of strzok's testimony before congress showed evidence that his personal views affected his> work. ore than two years after a prince william county worker was murdered first day on the job. jury selection is under way for ronald hamilton. army vet is charged with killing his wife crystal,hen officer ashley guindon who arrived on the scene in februaryf 2016. jury selection is expected to take about three weeks, and the trial is expected to last three months. matthew sclohlonsky wanted do more with his wife, but the grad studentersity was gunned down, unintended d.c.t in today a judge sentenced the three men involved.

backpack or book bag and for the irst time students who post maryland-related shopping photo on social media with the #shopmdtaxfree will get a chance to a w2,500 scholarship. getting out to do some shopping may not be a good idea in certain areas. let's get backo doug with an update on new severe thunderstorm warnings we've right now. >> doug, these are popping up quickly, aren't they? >> tracking them right now, a new severe thunderstorm warning that we mentioned a few minutes ago. this for fairfax county and arlington county and this is maki its way towards the district. can you see what's happening as we put it into motion i a couple o minutes. i want to show you what we're dealing w.severe thunderstorm warning right now to the south ne the city of fairfax. that's that i'm watching right now. we've got another one that's around the dulles airport region right around the sterling area, so this is the oneight here that has a warning with it. with this storm we've seen

quarter-sized hail and trees down on a couple of houses in towards manassas. once again, this is an area that we're watching very, very closely. this storm actually moving more to the northeast here. it says arod woodbridge, parts of southern fairfax county around mt. vernon under that warning. yeah, this is actually moving more north than northeast. if you live in falls church this is coming right toward you. city of fairfax right here.ht burke rn here. if you live around burke, this storm right on top of you right now. the history of producingin and hail damage. back to the west a storm right around the airport, too, a lotni of lightng with this and more down towards the anne ar adel area manassas area. on that track taking 423 right through andale.

this is all due to the big upper level low. you can take a look at the rain and thunderstorm activity, especially this little swirl right here. that's where we're seeingng the stnd severe storms. that's why we had this flap flood watch in effect until sock. it includes loudoun county and fairfax county, and eve the north and east. almost the entire state of maryland with the extension of extreme southern maryland and esback towards virginia and back towards romney and the agerstown allards towards the flash flood watch until 10:00 tonight. definitely mea business and we'll continue to watch these the rest of the evening. more stohs and a h temperature of 87 degrees. a little less humid and we'll see af chance an afternoon thunderstorm again. 91 degrees on wednesday. thuray coming in at 92. the humidity starts to increase here as well, so lots of sunshine wednesday and thursday, but then the srm chances return on friday and into the weekend. we've got a chance of sto friday. a high of 94 degrees.

years. noin their stories are c to life in a new exhibit at ngton national cemetery. a special ceremony today kicked off the temporary exhibit which opens 100 years to the day after the first woman enlisted in the ma reasons. that was ofa mae johnson who lived right here in washington. thend portraits a memorabilia on display show female marines from different generations and different wars. >> i really think the exhibit that's displayed here has done ll. >> i hopeople come to this exhibit and see it for what it is. the history that just is enclosed in this building spans not a very long period of time but what we've accomplished is huge compared to athing else i think. >> by the way, johnson is currently buried in an unmarked grave at rock creek cemetery, but that's about to change. the women marine's association will unveil a special monument at her grave site late they are month. >> long time coming.

still, very very heavy rain associated with these and more storms up to the north arod frederick county and howard county and carroll county and a few more as well towards annapolis area. these are the two that have prompted warnings. one thing you notice right away with this storm. not a lot of lightning here, but as i tol you, this will move right over towards d.c. over the arlington area in towards parts of northwest washington and around bethesda and chevy chase coming through. thisas had a lot of hail associated with it and a fell tree dow around prince william county and a lot of hail around bu and now it's looking a little bit less of a hail threat west of downtown. it's clipping a littl bit of downtown, too. alexandria you're in the warning. it's not coming your s way. thrm to the north. we've got rockville and gaithersburg underneath a severe warning. look at all the this storm.with we could start to see hail out of this srm and more towards thevi late area.
